I really enjoyed this one. Great character development and a believable hea.
The H, Rodriguez, was a very charismatic, arrogant prince. The h, Carlotta was a disgraced princess. She was a single parent who had every aspect of her life exploited by the tabloids when she got pregnant 5 years earlier. Rodriquez needs to marry and produce an heir. He was supposed to marry the h's sister but she ran off with another man. The h's father offers Carlotta as a substitute. Rodriquez doesn't care who he mar...more

The hero of this book is an out and out rogue/playboy right to the core. I didn't think I would like him- I didn't want to like him in fact -but I couldn't help it, I did! And that is mainly down to the strength of the writing, in particular the characterisation.
This is a story that is wholly centred around it's characters and really gives us, the reader, a chance to feel everything they are feeling and experience their journey with them. Both the hero and heroine have "issues" but thro...more

Okay so a couple of changes, the book title has been changed apparently to Princess From The Shadows, now I'm not too sure if that's because this is a UK version or North American because it was originally called Princess Behind The Shadows, or something along those lines. Anyways, like I said, not too sure!
I liked this book greatly, which is saying a lot because I have some truly humongous issues with a lot of new books out there today which are being released. The newer ones seem to fail to ca...more

Princess From The Shadows will have you captivated from the very start; A passionate tale about new beginnings and second chances.
What sets this book apart for me are the life like characters in Prince Rodriguez and Princess Carlotta.
I think Maisey did an amazing job bringing her characters to life…. As a reader you are emotionally vested in Rodriguez and Carlotta, ….. you share their ups and downs and cheer them on towards their HEA.

Maisey Yates' writing style is superb. The characters are brought to life, they felt so real with all their complexity & their insecurities. They have layers. What you see is not what you get. Rodriguez is quite the playboy but underneath the charm & the easy flirt, Carlotta - and the reader - can glimpse his bleakness & his darkness due to years of neglect & abuse. Carlotta has always put a leash on her passionate nature has always been the perfect princess, till one mi...more

I enjoyed this nice little palate cleanser after a tougher read. It was different in how urbane the hero was and how he was so accepting of the heroine's history. There was plenty of angst and caring for each other and overcoming their pasts. There was no spinelessness or asshatery, so it was a fun and different read.

I really liked the hero and heroine. The hero's character arc was great.
(I probably would have preferred it as a standalone title instead of part of the Santina Crown series. I'm still not clear on how all the characters in that series are connected and have skipped some of the books by my less favorite authors, so I would have preferred not having all the Santina Crown drama going on in the background.)
