Cari Z. (Goodreads Author)
One angel, one demon. Ancient enemies. Lifetimes of yearning. For millennia the demon Renat has loved the angel Emiel from afar. One kiss was all they ever shared, ages and ages ago. A beautiful story about love, grace, and trust, this takes the idea of the falling of angels one step further and examines what would happen if one of them fell because of love. The kind of love that is "too personal", and doesn’t put God first. Kind of a difficult situation to imagine happening to an angel, but it is an interesting assumption. I have to admit that the writing pulled me in, the characters had me fascinated, and the idea of "what if" the way Cari interpreted it had me turning the...more

Really REALLY good story about a fallen angel and his long lost love. Cari perfectly wove the picture into the story which is always nice, since that's kind of the point. This was a beautiful story that had me tearing up at times. Yes it's about angels so there is a certain amount of "our Father's will" and what-not, but given the characters it is completely appropriate and wonderfully done, not at all preachy, it jus...more

This short starts when all hell broke loose in heaven (ah, religious humour ), when Renat knew that he would be going to the newly formed hell with Lucifer because in his heart he had put his constant companion Emiel first over God. He confesses his love to Emiel and asks him to join him, however Emiel refuses to go against God and Renat spends the next millennia mooning about it essentially. When he hears of an angel arriving in hell, he quic...more

Lucifer was cast out of Heaven for the sins of pride, jealousy, and avarice, and those who fought alongside him, against the Archangel Michael and the heavenly hosts, fell with him to Earth to live among the temptations of human want, or to the Underworld to exist for all eternity amongst the hellfire and brimstone as punishment for their sin of acting in selfishness rather than exalting God and acting through His divine grace. But angels are capable of transgressing in other ways too, if loving...more
I absolutely loved this (and discovered that I have a soft spot for fallen angel stories lol)! Renat has loved Emiel for as long as he can remember. When Lucifer was cast out of Heaven, Renat tried to convince Emiel to leave Heaven with him. Emiel could not go against the will of God and the two angels were seperated for millenia, Renat becoming a powerful demon in Hell and Emiel continuing his angel duties in Heaven.

A story about angels--especially fallen--are right up my alley, so within the first few lines, I felt pretty secure that this story was going to get a good rating from me. That being said, a poorly written or formulated story with fallen angels that screws up still won't satisfy! However, this story is equal parts heartbreaking and sweet, with Renat's struggle as he loves Emiel and is rejected--by him and by God--and is cast down into Hell.

If this one really wanted to at least try to be a good story, it would have to stretch itself to a hundred or so more pages, in order to explore fucking something. This way, it's just a quick story of "damnation" where hell doesn't really look that awful and the love is not deep enough to really make people suffer, because hey, there's God. Now, if you're a believer, stop reading right here; I am an atheist, and all this bullshit about the fact that not putting God first will make you go to hell...more

Can I give some advice while reading this story? Do not click underneath the "want to read" link that says read the story. You will only get a preview and then be hugely disappointed because you can't see anymore. What I did was read it via the url link and what I got from that was amazing. This story could very well be the best Angel and Demon story I have read in a looooong time. Yep, that good. You have battles, love, betrayal, jealousy, redemption, and yes you do have sex; it is what I would...more
For those who are concerned about religious overtones in angel/demon stories, yes, this one does have some. I personally do not find this story to be overly preachy, but the fall of the angels from Heaven plays a part in this story, as does God's Grace and His Will, so if you think that may bother you, you may be right. They exist enough to make you think about their importance in relation to the story and what truth they may hold, but I do not feel like I was hit over the head with it. (Others...more
A beautiful story. Absolutely beautiful. While short, it managed to tell a complete story with perfectly chosen language. I felt for Renat, and I loved Emiel's quiet faith in his love for Renat and for God. It's not overly religious, though religion is the backdrop for stories such as this one, and I love how well the worldbuilding was done. All in all, wonderful from start to finish. I definitely want to see the story hinted at between Satan and Michael, though!
I was surprised by how much I liked this one. It may have had a lot to do with the fact that the mythology in it reminded me much more of the TV show Supernatural than of the Christianity I grew up with. So right from the start, my mind was filled with all of these delightfully lovely images. ;)
I also love that this is the most amazing example of love triumphing over everything, and the power of love to redeem and make us better.

A fine addition to the LiAW series, about an Angel and a Demon, and their journey to find again the love that they once shared. It is about hope, and a love that survives despite unbearable suffering, and that such love can be its own reward.
Hmmm, dark and light come together and love can conquer all! I love angel stories and this one was unique. The detail in the world building was wonderful. Despite the violence and dark overtone to the story, there was something just touching and beautiful to be found as well. I really enjoyed it and hope to see more!!!
I so loved these characters. Such beautifully horrid descriptions of the torments of Hell.
A lovely short story about love and its power to destroy as well as its power to redeem.
Very good angel/demon-fallen angel story as part of the LIAW event.
Powerful short story.
I liked this one a lot! :)

Cari Z. is a Colorado girl who loves snow and sunshine. She is back in America, finally, and loves it, despite having to relearn how to use a clutch. Writing consumes the free time that isn't spent on a mat or playing with her husband, or both (wonderful when interests coincide like that), and she hopes you enjoy what she writes as much as she enjoys writing it.
