If you know HTML and CSS at the very least, this is a good, simple, and to the point. Great for absolute beginners, but for more in-depth (and up-to-date) material, it's best to use the PHP manual found at for free.
A good beginner's guide to PHP. Going through the examples as practice is how I really learned to use this script language.

A great work of code and writing. This book really shoveled the information that needed to be learned.

Solid read, scripts could be better. I found an Android app that explains more than this book.
Fine, but not brilliant by any means, might as well use Internet tutorials.
The exercises were super helpful!
