The book Eagle Strike by Anthony Horowitz is about a kid named Alex who works for M16 a spy organization. He goes to Europe on a vacation with Sabina and his guardian Jack because his parents and his uncle died. Alex Rider is a 14 year-old spy. He worked with MI6 (British version of the CIA) 3 times before. He has seen and done many things he regrets, but in the end, he came out alive, and the villain didn't come out at all. Alex is daring, brave, and smart, and these attributes help him because if he wasn't smart he would be dead. If he wasn't brave he couldn't stand face-to-face with a contract killer. Alex Rider is without MI6 this time... he has to solve his problems by himself this time. Sir Damian Cray is the threat toward Alex in this adventure. (I know, someone who is knighted is a threat!) Damian Cray who is a rich popstar who also comes from a wealthy background, making him super rich. While on vacation with his girlfriend, Cray tries to kill his girlfriend's (Sabina) dad because he is a journalist. Sabina's dad was writing a report, questioning why Cray was meeting up with someone in the NSA (National Seurity Agency) of America. Cray didn't want that story being exposed, so he attempted to kill him. He failed, and Alex wanted to figure out why Cray met up with someone in the NSA. He soon found out Cray was given the launch codes for America's nuclear missiles. Cray was anti-drugs, and he wanted to blow up all the main suppliers of drugs. Cray said it was, "You have to take lives to save lives." Cray is a psycopath who happens to be a rich popstar, and has the brains and money to pull off any stunt he wishes.

I enjoyed this book because it is action-packed, and was really exciting. I would reccomend this book to anyone who likes thrills and non-stop action. I hope you read it and enjoy it as much as me.(less)

Eagle Strike is a book in the Alex Rider series. This book just like the others in the series is action packed. Alex Rider who is the main character always has something exciting going on in his life. Because Alex’s life never has a dull moment the book is consistently entertaining.
Like I said in the previous paragraph Alex Rider is the main character. A few other main supporting characters are Jack who is Alex’s guardian, Sabina who is Alex’s friend, and Damian Cray who is a famous artist but Alex is suspicious of an attempted death and Alex thinks that Cray might have been involved somehow. That conflict leads to many other in the whole book. The story takes place in a few different locations including England, Paris and Amsterdam. Alex gets himself involved with the situation with Cray because of his background, he is a spy for an agency called M16.
Alex Rider’s life is tougher than you may think at first. It seems as if he gets to travel around and he is a spy, but Alex doesn’t have time to hangout like a normal kid his age. Alex is busy being a spy is always doing something for a reason. Just like in other books in this series Alex is a selfless person. Throughout the story he wants to keep Sabina safe, and when she is in danger Alex puts himself in danger to try and save her. Alex is motivated by two main things, to save Sabina and to stop Damian Cray from his evil doings.
In a part of the story Alex steals Damian Cray’s hard drive that Cray really needs. Because of that Cray kidnaps Sabina and is holding her until he gets his hard drive back. Alex tries to get Sabina out while keeping the hard drive but his plan doesn’t work so he gives in to Cray and gives him the hard drive so he will let Sabina go. This is an example of Alex being selfless and putting himself in a dangerous situation.
This book can definitely be related to many peoples lives. Obviously the normal person doesn’t go through the same situation as Alex but we can definitely learn some things from his actions. Everyone can learn something from Alex’s actions because all of us have been selfish at one time or another. If everyone just put other people above themselves sometimes things would be a lot different in everyones lives. (less)

In the end, he gets so crazy over it that he decides that he wanted to eliminate drugs totally. He decides to pay millions of dollars to a taitor of the Americans in order to get and hold 25 super nucleur bombs and set them to various locations, such as Columbia and Afghanistan to eliminate the spread of drugs there. He kills hundreds of people to acomplish his goal. He forgets that he hates violence, especially massacres and wars, just to accomplish the destructions of drugs around the world. He say, "millions will die, However millions more will be saved."

Alex thinks that Damion Cray is a crazy lunitic. He believes that drugs can't be totally wiped out. It is impossible. However, he is no supporter of drugs. In a previous book I read about him, he tried to kill a drug dealer who sells drugs to his best friend. He is right and I agree with him. I am no supporter of drugs but I do know that drugs can not be totally wiped out. It is almost impossible. The book is probably warning everyone that drugs are harmful and can kill people. Damion Cray wa so wrapped up into the idea of anti drugs that he didn't even care for the millions of people that were going to die. In other ways, Damion Cray thought that he was gong to make the world a better place by doing this. He was wrong and in the end of the book, his carzy dream ended up costing his life.

Overall, the book was really interesting and I really liked it. Anthony Horowitz should write more books. He is really descriptive and writes really well. The first sentence got me into the book. "The Amazon Jungle. Fifteen years ago." This sentence really caught my attention. I am really interested in historical fiction so I was hooked from the start. It is a really good book and I recommend it to everyone.

Alex Rider seems to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He lives in England and through a series of unfortunate events, finds himself working for MI6. In the previous books in this series, he works to the bitter end to stop evil and defend the world. This is a character that truly comes alive. He is extremely intelligent, brave, and fights for what he believes in. I think that he is an incredible character that almost any teen would be excited to read about. In the book, Eagle Strike, not only is he on his own, without MI6 to back him up, but he is also not on a mission. He fights for his own reasons and for his friends. This is a teen that winds up with the entire weight of the world on his shoulders, and refuses to give in or break under the pressure.
Throughout the book Alex finds himself in many life threatening and extremely dangerous situations. For example, after he sneaks into the Cray Software Plant, he is captured and forced into something called the Pain Synthesis. This is a devious chamber devised by Damian Cray for his new computer game. In order to make the audience feel the pain of a character in the game, Damian Cray needs to have real people experience the pain themselves, so he can channel it into the game. Alex finds himself in the middle of a life sized computer game were each act really does cause pain. Alex has to use his brains to outsmart the game and make sure that he doesn’t get “game over.”
This extremely well written series by Anthony Horowitz, has sold over ten million copies worldwide has received many awards. Alex Rider is sometimes considered a younger and much less violent version of James Bond. This exciting book truly teaches its readers to never give in no matter what the odds are and to fight for your friends and what you believe in.

Alex Rider is in France with his friend Sabina Pleasure and her family when Sabina's dad is nearly killed by a bomb supposedly placed by Yassen Gregovich. Eagle strike is another of Alex’s many adventures, it talks about how one of his friend’s dads gets blown up by an old nemesis: Yassen Gregorovich. He thinks it’s the famous and extremely charismatic Damian Cray. The previous books in the series grabbed my attention more quickly than this one, and I began to fear that the Alex Rider series was losing steam. Probably part of the difficulty came from the fact that I cannot like Sabina. From the beginning, I expected that a girl would eventually appear in the series but disliked Sabina from the moment she was introduced (kind of) in the last book. She was more of an annoying afterthought there. Probably part of the difficulty came from the fact that I cannot like Sabina. From the beginning, I expected that a girl would eventually appear in the series but disliked Sabina from the moment she was introduced (kind of) in the last book. She was more of an annoying afterthought there. All we really learned about her then is that she is very crass and that Alex, inexplicably, likes her (I would have expected him to have better taste). She is a bigger figure in the plot of this book, but we still don't get to know her very well. I'm fine with that. I really hope that we don't see more of her after this. I blame her presence in the beginning for my difficulty in getting into this book. After she was gone things picked up considerably.

I am pretty disappointed that Alex chose to cold-heartedly ignore Yassen's plans even when he knew they were murderous in intent. True, he probably couldn't do a lot about it, but does that mean he shouldn't at least try? I guess that was meant to be a part our hero's moral growth as he learned his lesson and later felt remorse for that decision. Besides, since the finality of death was not ultimately involved, I guess we're meant to feel that redemption is still possible for our young hero. By the way, I also find it very strange that Yassen would be so sloppy with that job. If he is, as we have been led to believe, such a skilled assassin, how could he have failed? He didn't even seem concerned about it, nor did his employer. Does that seem strange to anyone else?

There are some exciting changes in this book to the pattern left by the previous books. No arm-twisting from MI6 to do a job this time. That was cool, seeing what Alex can do on his own. We actually get to see a little bit more of Jack in this book too. I kept thinking before how strange it was that she is basically his guardian, as well as a good friend whose continued residence in England is motivation enough for Alex to accept these dangerous assignments, and yet we get no more than a passing reference or line from her in each book. We don't get a ton from her in this book either, but we get more of a glimpse of her than we did in any of the previous books. Having Yassen, Alex's elusive nemesis reappear was also an interesting development, as we got to learn more about him and, in a sense, take care of some unfinished business with him. Above all, there is the intriguing revelation about Alex's past (I knew from the first book that there'd be more to his parents' death than the accident described therein). I can't wait to learn more about that in the books that follow.

Then there’s Yassen Gregorovich; he’s a contract killer and he also killed Ian Rider, but he and Alex still have some sort of mildly friendly relationship. Alex also has a more or less girlfriend and her name is Sabina pleasure. Then there’s Damian Cray who might be the main villain that wants to nuke the earth and he’s also a rich singer/environmentalist zillionare who donates money to the poor and makes video games. He also hates drugs. The main storyline in this book is that Sabina’s dad digs up some major dirt on Damian Cray (and when I say “major dirt” I mean like murders and other things that could get you a life sentence, but mainly murders). Then Cray hires Yassen to kill him, but he fails and her dad survives. Alex finds out it was Cray and he strikes out alone to stop Cray.

I loved this book because it had a ton of action and the author made it like you were there with the amount of details. I also liked it because it’s really gripping and hard to put down and as with most Alex Rider books it has a great story and once you’re about a third to halfway through the action starts and really doesn’t stop until the beginning of the 2nd to last page. I really don’t think there was a single thing that I didn’t like about this book.

I would recommend this to all of my friends and anyone who really enjoys a lot of action and violence and all other things that most guys (maybe girls) like. As you might have picked up I would really recommend this to guys instead of girls (but girls a welcome to read it) because of the violent and action packed content.

So you have a lot of problems in this book that it seems like the character Alex had nothing t do about. But yet people just like trying to kill him every time something goes wrong. When he was on a holiday he was with his girlfriend and her family and for the fun of it some bombers just for the fun of it decide to try to kill him but instead hurt his girlfriend’s father. And when it can’t get worse they involve a car crash for him to get hurt again. So next time you think you have bad luck think of an innocent 14 year old boy who is a wanted poster for anybody who wants a few bucks of extra cash.
Now one thing I think is stupid is every time you know he will be ok but he never is in real danger. Like technically he is but he isn’t if you know what I mean. Its really pathetic and I hate it about the writer but I don’t know why I read this book, probably because it’s the only one I have got into with a series. It’s really a James Bond citation but James Bond is more interesting but this book is just too FAKE!!!!!! He has all the training the languages the gadgets which I must speak of one the bmx bike with rocket shot out of the rims like how does that work it’s way to difficult to do what he did on a bike like that. I bike and that would be a ton of weight and it takes real practice.
I don’t believe the book is real realistic but it is real entertaining it’s like the gay TV show that you have to watch over and over again! So don’t read this book for heaven to more if you don’t want to get it then think through it logically. It like a magic trick you only see the outcome then you think how stupid it was. I hate thins book but it’s weird ya know.

The book starts out with Alex (the main character) going to Europe with his girlfriend Sabina. He calls the last phone number called because he noticed when he saw Yassen he was on his phone, He calls the phone number and was astonished with who answered it was pop star Damian Cray. Next he goes to M16 which is the secret company he is a spy for and they don’t believe a word he says so now he knows hes on his own. Next he goes back to France where he lives with he guardian Jack, his idea is to sneak into the opening of Damian Crays new gaming consul.
He gets there with Jack, Jack distracts a guy that has a ticket hanging out of his back pocket and Alex takes it. He finally gets in and ends up being the volunteer for testing out the consul and almost beats it. After that he sneaks into Damian Crays office which is huge and looks like a prison there are guards everywhere and he has to find a way to sneak in there was a truck at the entrance and he jumps on it and blends in with the man on the side of it. When he gets in the first thing he sees is a airplane on fire then all the sudden the fire just stops and the plane isn’t damaged at all. Afterward he finds stairs goes up them and finds Damian Cray he sees Damian kill a man that gave him a flash drive and Yassen was there with Damian. Damian sees him and he was brought over bye a guard. He gets put into a jail cell and theirs a hole there
he crawls through he gets to a latter gets down and theirs a huge door it opens and it is a exact copy of the game he played with Damian but he has an advantage hes played it before. He finally gets through barely with his life and at the end he finds a door and he goes through and back into Damian’s building the alarm rings but he gets out before the gates close.
Next thing Alex knows Damian has Sabina they had snatched her when she was going to see her dad in the hospital. Damian told Alex that if he isn’t there within the next 24 hours he will kill her. He takes a taxi to Damian’s house and when he arrives he walks through the gates and goes through the front door and there was Damian and Yassen he thought they would let her go but they didn’t. After all that they took them in cars to an airport in America they stop at a gate at the very back of the airport then there's a plane on fire and its coming straight for the airport it finally hits the ground and there are fire trucks and ambulances everywhere. Alex knows its the plane from Damian’s office but what the driver thinks is wrong Damian has a button in his hand and blows the plane up. They go through the gate will everyone is distracted and they go to a huge hanger and its carrying the presidents jumbo jet (airforce1) but what would Damian want with the presidents jet. Damian sends some guys on the jet and then he hears gun shots they get on and its unlike anything Alex had ever seen. Yassen keeps Sabina and Damian takes Alex to a room with a lot of electronics here it is Damian said. This room is the room where the president can launch of nuclear bombs on any country in the world. That is what the flash drive is for and to hack into the system Damian puts in code which turns different every day that’s what the flash drive tells him he puts on a glove that has the presidents finger prints on it and marks the spots and presses the button. He did this because in all these country’s are where all kinds of drugs are made and he believes that if he sends nuclear bombs in these spots it will kill millions but save more in the long run. They get back to the lobby and Damian sits down and tells Yassen to kill Alex and Sabina but He refuses he says he doesn’t kill kids. Damian takes the gun and points it at Alex and pulls the trigger he closes his eyes and looks around and Damian shot Yassen. He pulled the gun
up aimed at Alex’s heart and fired. Alex flew to the ground and didn't move now he aimed at Sabina but didn't expect her to attack he threw her back against the wall but before he could shoot someone hit his arm it was Alex he was wearing a bullet proof vest he tried to attack Damian but he was still to strong. Sabina had opened the side door and the emergency slide flew open. Damian tried to shoot Alex but Sabina rammed into him with the drink cart his knees buckled Alex got up and pushed the cart as hard as he could right out the door the slide was slanted so when the wind caught him he was sucked up into the engine. The drink cart had more resistance though and then all the sudden the engine burst into flames and the plane was sent flying from the imbalance and hurtled and now the plane is lying on one side they can here sirens. Alex tried to get up but his legs wouldn’t couporate he was happy to see Sabina get up he told her she had to get to the communications room and press the self destruct button she left and then he heard a voice it was Yassen calling his name please he said he didn’t want to go over there but he did. He said I have something to tell you I couldn’t kill you I never would have killed you I knew your father we worked together he said, you mean he was a spy Alex said. No he was a killer like me the best in the world he taught me many things M16 hunted him down and killed him and I got away at the very last second, he saved his life and in a way he loved him. Then he said and your so very much like him and closed his eyes and he knew he would never open them again.

SETTING
In the book there were many different places that the book took place in. The majority of the book took place in France and in America. The beginning of the book took place in Europe Where Sabina’s father was almost killed. Alex was frantically moving through the whole book. On the inside of everything Damian owned was always light and open for some reason.

CONFLICT
The conflict of the book is that Sabina's father had been attempted to be assassinated. Also the man that tried to kill him ended up being a psycho and Alex was the one who had to fix things. Alex was almost killed many times through the whole book and saw things people shouldn't see. Then when he went to M16 for help they thought he was crazy and wouldn’t help him. Also Damian tries to set of nuclear missiles to help save the world from drugs but is killing millions in he process. Next Alex figures out that his dad was a killer like Yassen and was very much like his dad.
RESOLUTION
The resolution is Damian was killed after everything. Then his girlfriend ended up being ok in the end and he came out of it alive. He quit working for M16 and got on with the life a normal teenager should have. He also stopped the missiles from killing millions of people. Sabina ended up moving to America with her mom and her father ended up being ok. In time he will learn if he is really like his father to and hopefully not.

Another great book for this series. This book is about 14 years old spy named Alex Rider, who used to work for M16 (a secret government organization) who goes on vacation in France, but then gets caught up in an "accident" where he suspects Yassen (a famous assassin) trying to kill a journalist who is investigating a superstar Cray.

At the end of the book, Yassen saves Alex’s life, but sacrifices it in the process.
Something interesting I noticed in the book is that Yassen Gregorovich, the man who killed Alex’s uncle is made as a Russian. I find this interesting because Britain and Russia have not had the best foreign relationships over the past century. I think that Anthony Horowitz incorporates this in his book. This tells me that Anthony Horowitz must be a patriotic person and he must be taking interest in his own government. Also, I noticed that Anthony Horowitz made Americans the people who work together with Britain to stop the nuclear attack. This probably refers to the strong relationship that America and Britain have had for over two hundred years.
Something else that I noticed is that some Americans did the same thing that Anthony Horowitz did. For example in the movie Get Smart, Russians try make a nuclear bomb and threaten the CIA to kill innocent people if they do not deliver them two hundred billion dollars. Another example of this is in the movie The Spy Next Door, Russians try to destroy every country’s oil reserves except for Russia’s. Then they would sell it for a fortune.
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book. I would give it a nine out of ten because it had such an interesting plot and it made me think about Anthony Horowitz’s personal opinions about foreign relationships with other countries. I recommend this book for anyone who likes action and mystery books. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this thought-provoking book.

Eagle Strike at times reads like a laundry list of stereotypical things that teenage boys are into (innit): spies; chase scenes; video games; gun porn; hot girls who treat boys badly and then have a change of heart. The result, in terms of plotting, is a spiky pattern of DANGER-DANGER-breathe-DANGER-DANGER-breathe (etc.), rather than a smooth storytelling arc that builds to a satisfying conclusion.

That's not to say that some of the DANGER-DANGER episodes are not entertaining. That's not to say that some of the DANGER-DANGER episodes are not entertaining. In particular, Horowitz makes a masterful twist on video game play in the middle of the novel. However, upon reaching the end of the book, rather than building to a climax, I found that the constant ACTION began to feel meaningless. And, by the last page, I just felt a bit deflated.

(The plot, of course, is scarcely the point of the novel, but it involves an evil pop star, Russians being self-serving and Americans being idiots. Yay, xenophobia!)

I've read a couple of the Alex Rider competitors (Cherub; the Andy McNab teen books) and it's clear that Alex Rider is the market leader because Anthony Horowitz can actually write. While he's no Shakespeare, there's a nice cadence to his writing, which lifts the series noticeably.

Do I even need mention that the 'romance' in this novel is a complete afterthought? Alex's relationship with Sabina is utterly perfunctory: we never get any background on how they fell in 'like'; there's a single scene that indicates they might enjoy each other's company, but otherwise they just seem bored or irritated by each other. Sabina is written at times with an unpleasant viciousness on the part of the author. At one point, after suffering 24 hours of unspeakable horror, she's asked to put on some goggles and she complains that it will ruin her makeup. Does Horowitz really think that ANY girl, however vacuous, would care about her makeup when placed in a life-or-death situation? Let's not even talk about the bizarrely-named Jack Starbright (she's female), who is initially painted as a cool, spunky ally and then given nothing to do but play nanny and exposition fairy.

Eagle Strike is perhaps ultimately just a frustrating read. With just a little more thoughtfulness and emotion, and a little more effort paid to plotting, it could have been a satisfying novel. Instead, it's content to play cynically to its audience (boys who like guns) and, though blandly entertaining, it's a much weaker book as a result.(less)

I am reading the book Eagle Strike by Anthony Horowitz. I am about half way through the book and am not finished yet but from what I have read it is extremely good. This book relates to a James Bond type of book because Alex Rider is a spy and very good at being one. I think that someone that likes suspenseful action but is not completely realistic would really like this book. He makes the debut of his new video game station “GAME SLAYER” He is loveable and donates millions to charity in order to stop world hunger and end a world of drug trade, but Alex see’s through the lies. Persuing and spying on Damian Cray, Alex is captured and finds himself in a life like simulation of the game Damien Cray created. Later in the novel Alex and Sabina find themselves hostages of Damian Cray as he launches plan EAGLE STRIKE.

This book is exactly what young adults and teens are looking to read. Action, Suspense, Tragedy, all packed in one novel is a book with much popularity. Fasten your seatbelts because the book takes readers on an addicting, breathless, rollercoaster that you want to never end.

Horowitz’s style for writing this book is just impressive. This 3rd person narrative keeps readers on a constant mood trip, throwing new challenges to the protagonist and a new personality to the antagonists. He takes Alex on this medium paced, trip saving the best for last. Horowitz dramatic structure for the novel is unique as three-fourths of the book is built mainly for the rising action, leaving the climax, falling action, and resolution only 50 pages. That is definitely the way to leave the readers wanting more and looking forward to the other books in the series.

I rate this book a 5/5 as Anthony Horowitz continues the series, ending every book with a bang. He cleverly lengthens the book creating each scene of the novel with the right amount of detail and ambiance.
