The second in the BOUND BY MAGICK series:

From the *always fabulous Lauren Dane* comes her new novel of a treacherous family legacy, a temptation just as dangerous, and an evil so depraved it can only be spoken of in whispers

The life of Lark Jaansen, hunter in Clan Gennessee, has been shaped by violence and unrest and it defines her future. Well-trained and resilient, she’s

In the second book of Lauren Dane’s Bound by Magick series, the threat from Heart of Darkness is back, in a big way. Lark is called in to help the Owen clan of witches deal with some missing witches, but she has no idea just how big this is going to get. Unfortunately, neither do the Owen witches.

Lark is picked up at the airport by the most rugged and handsome man she’s ever laid eyes on-but she recognizes two things. One, he’s not a man, he’s Other. And

Chaos Burning is book 2 in the Bound by Magick series by Lauren Dane. This features sexy Lycian prince Simon Leviathan, my favorite character from this series so far. Unfortunately, his heroine is not me, but a hunter named Lark Jaansen from Clan Gennesse (*cries* Why?). But there are no hard feelings between Lark and I. I found Lark to be a smart, feisty woman with a heart big enough to handle the alpha man that is Simon.

When Lark arrives from Los Angeles to work with the clan in solving a myst

This one is way better than Heart of Darkness Bound by Magick 1. While the first book is like an introduction to the world of Others, Chaos Burning actually has a real threat, a very powerful enemy. I loved it.
Lark is in Seattle to help the witches organize their defense since it is the first time they actually have to defend themselves on that scale. It soon becomes clear that the turned and mages aren't the only threat and that they are more organized than what Lark and the rest thoug

Well, I've been waiting not so patiently for this book for a couple of reasons. First and foremost for the sexy-as-all-sin hero, Simon. He's Lycian, and yes I have a thing for Ms. Dane's shifters, but Lycians are not the same as her regular shifters (as in Cascadia and De La Vega) they are a bit more.

Simon is no different, he's a sexy and successful, very good looking guy, who happens to be part owner of Heart of Darkness, Dominic's club. He's also a bar

Enjoyed this installment between Simon & Lark - feisty warriors who had to learn how to work together to face the wrath of the Magister. I like having the characters from the previous book mingle in the story as it builds the framework of this supernatural world. Really enjoyable
The story itself was alright, the Others have been a popular idea for many authors but the idea for the bad guy was something new.

The writing seemed like it just couldn’t make up its mind. There would be action, then a lot of talking, back to a little bit of action and then talking. The beginning had action and I was getting really into it but then they just sat and talked so I was bored until the action started again.

It took me a couple of days to get through this book but I still liked it, I j

Chaos Burning was my first time sampling Lauren Dane's work. I've seen her various books for years, have put many on my list, but this paranormal of hers is the first one I've ever read. My feelings upon finishing the book were a bit...uncertain. In my opinion, it was only an 'okay' read. That is, it wasn't one of those books that you can't put down, but it also wasn't a book that left a bad taste in my mouth. Instead, it was just, well, average. And

Thank you Goodreads, for the giveaway and the chance to read Chaos Burning.

Impressions: Decent fluff read, good benefits, likable characters, somewhat poorly written.

I like paranormal romances so they had me with witches, weres, vampires and more. I liked the chemistry between Simon (shifter) and Lark (witch). Simon can be easily be a perfect man. Slightly dangerous, owns his life, has integrity, wants to protect his love but understands she needs her freedom to be who she is. Not to mention, he

Lark Jaansen has come to Clan Owen to help them prepare for the battle that is headed their way. She is a hunter for Clan Gennessee and has actually been the leader of the hunter teams, along with her sister. Lark jumped at the chance to come up to Clan Owen, not only to help out but also to escape a situation that might have changed her relationship with her sister forever. Lark knows she isn’t what most would expect from a hunter leader – small of statue and a quirky dresser; yet when it comes ...more

Very slow-paced. The villain is kind of Fantastic 4-ish so nothing original. Another thing is that I couldn't really feel the chemistry between Lark and Simon. (view spoiler) However, I enjoyed the glimpses of the characters we saw in the 1st book, especially Meriel and Dominic.

I received this book in the Goodreads book giveaway.

I like the story concept. However, I have found a lot of typos (which kind of make me crazy). And, it almost seems like pages were left out of the book. For instance, Spoiler Alert: The main character crosses the veil to meet her new beau's family, meets them, goes for a walk, and then she is back on Earth doing her job - hunting. It really did seem as though there should have been several more pages in-between.

I won this book from a goodreads contest and it was definitely a win, win for me. This book was great. I fell in love with the connection Lark and Simon had for each other. Because of what they are and what they fight for, I couldn’t help but be wrapped up in this story. Thank you so much Ms. Dane for picking my name to read this great story.
I love Lauren Dane. That said, I wasn't as in love with this book as I wanted to be. Supernatural, ginormous evildoers - check. Smoking hot and sexy 600 year old hero - check. Feisty, funky and uniquely beautiful heroine - check. And visits from some of the Cascadia wolves! Double check! And yet, I just couldn't connect with it entirely.
I won this book as a first reads giveaway, for which I am very thankful. This does not influence my review in any way.

In this book, Simon and Lark take the main stage. Other's are being kidnapped and killed, their magic siphoned. The culprit is something called the "Magistrar" which is greatly feared by all Other races but nothing is really known about. Lark comes as a hunter from LA to help the Owen clan beef up security.

Characters. Simon. Loved him. He's hot, he's alpha, he's intelligent. Lark

Quick & Dirty: Slow building romance set in a well-developed world with characters you just can’t help but love.

Opening Sentence: Lark shouldered her duffel and headed down the Jetway, hoping to avoid the cute and nice-smelling hipster college student who’d been trying to pick her up since they took off.

The Review:

Wow! This is the second book in the Bound by Magick series and it does NOT disappoint.

The story picks-up after the story of Dominic and Meriel. The story's main characters are Simon and Lark. Simon is Dom's best friend and business partner who is Lycian (Werewolf, but is not considered a "shifter") who is not of Earth, but from the "other" side of the Veil. I really enjoyed getting to know this Alpha-male's character. He can be described as being the "typical" Alpha - Big, Strong, "ba

Let me start by saying I wasn't overwhelmed by the first book in this series. I'm more a fan of her contemporaries. But then I got a First Read copy of the fourth book, and since I am congenitally incabable of reading a series piecemeal I'm all in. Nothing like a free book to motivate you.

Book two of the Bound by Magick series introduces a big bad that is scarfing up Others left and right. He's big he's bad he's not a... he so much as a menacing cloud with a minion who like the big bad is all of

I was privileged to be chosen as a recipient of this book in a drawing here on Goodreads. Lauren Dane is a favorite author of mine and I was very happy and excited to get this book. This is the second in a new series which is loosely tied to her Cascadia Wolves and de La Vega Cats series. It begins two months after the ending of book one in the series.

Lark Jaansen comes to Clan Owen from related Clan Gennessee to train Clan Owen members in different fighting and defense to aid them in the war wi
Most of the people that visit Novel Thoughts know that Mad and I are both Lauren Dane fans. Mad read Chaos Burning before I did and raved about how awesome Simon was. And she was right. Simon is a ridiculously hot Lycan, sharp dresser, great sense of humor, and he has an unshakable integrity. He enjoys the ladies but has avoided any that he thinks may be his "type" because he's not interested in taking a mate right then. Then he meets Lark. She's definitely not his type. Blue hair, funky clothes ...more

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle 1st August 2013:

I like the world that Lauren Dane has me in with her Witches, Lycians, Shifters and Others, and her very , very alpha males.

My thoughts on this instalment in her Bound By Magick series. I felt at times Lark was too Alpha female. Meriel still showed her girlie ways with Nell in Heart of Darkness, but we also got why Dominic chose her, why they chose each other.

Lark is very well matched to Simon’s character, but she just felt too

Lauren Dane has done it again! Bound by Magic is a great new series that continues with Chaos Burning. Lark is a Hunter from the LA clan of witches that has travelled to Seattle to help them train for an influx of mages and turned witches attacks. Lark has the intelligence and the training and is willing to share her knowledge. She meets a lot of good friends including Meriel and Dominic (from Heart of Darkness) and her new friend, Simon, a warrior as well with a few supernatural differences of ...more

Chaos Burning is the second book in Lauren Dane's Bound by Magick series, and it proves to be just as wild and satisfying ride as the first book in the series, Heart of Darkness. Lark Jaansen is a high ranking witch from her clan in Los Angeles and has been asked to come to Seattle by Clan Owen to help better train their hunters in handling the influx of violence that is being wrought on Seattle. Turned witches and mages are banding together with their stolen magick and waging a war among the Ot ...more

Lauren Dane’s Chaos Burning book two of her Bound by Magick series is an amazing sequel to her Heart of Darkness book one in the Bound by Magick series. Again Lauren Dane shows readers the power of her writing, introducing new characters, keeping the original cast exciting and bringing a new threat to bare. Two months have passed since Heart of Darkness and the threat to Clan Owen came to a close. Lark Jaansen of Clan Gennessee arrives to help train Clan Owen new defensive spells. They thought t ...more

I'm not sure if Chaos Burning the second instalment of Lauren Dane's Bound by Magick could be read as a stand alone, I started it pretty much straight after finishing Heart Of Darkness so was familiar with the set up of Clan Owen and the threat that has been building. I'm a slave to a series order so I would recommend you read Heart of Darkness first.

Mages have been kidnapping witches, draining them of their powers and killing them, they seems to be organised and controlled by a seriously scary

"Chaos Burning" is the second book of Lauren Dane's A Bound By Magick series. It features, Hunter/Witch, Lark Jaansen and Lycian (not to be confused with a Shifter), Simon Leviathan. The story takes place in Seattle, where Others live quietly, along side humans.

Lark, a Hunter for the paranormal world, is asked to help Clan Owen deal with revamping their Hunter Corp to better deal with the growing problem of Mages (humans who steal Magick from Witches and Other magical beings) and turned Witches

For me the big appeal to this book was Lark and Simon. Instantly I liked Lark, she definitely marches to the beat of her own drummer, but her quirkiness is a big part of her charm. She does what she knows is right and doesn't really care who's toes she steps on if her actions save her people.

Simon, on the other hand, I had to warm up to. I really liked how he was taken unaware of Lark. It wasn't until after he got to know Lark and knew who she was at her core that he realized that she was his m

I’ve never read Lauren Dane before so I had no background of characters to pull from or expectations. I must say I’m now officially a Lauren Dane fan. I felt her concept was original and well written her world building was awesome. I equated the Magister to the boogie man and could picture it vividly. If you haven’t read the first book I’d highly recommend reading it before trying this book. If I could have given this 10 stars I would have. Oh LD, I've missed your writing! Everything about this book was perfect in my opinion. Strong characters, family loyalty, a beautiful variety of worlds and clans and packs, love, sex, friendship, terrifying bad guys, tragedy, you name it!

Simon and Lark were such an unexpectedly perfect match. Both strong but from such different worlds. I absolutely loved how they began as friends and it evolved in to something strong and real. I appreciated their
