"...Most of us encounter hardship and suffering, and many are plagued by physical and emotional pain, stress, sadness, loneliness, and anxiety. While we often think of these as the problems caused by the demands of modern life, human life has always had the same hardships and the same challenges--making a living, raising a family, and finding meaning and purpose. These will always be the challenges that we humans face...To a yogi, freedom implies not being battered by the dualities of lif...more

Everyone
This is an excellent addition to B.K.S Iyengar's Light on Yoga. Seriously everyone who is searching for something "more" should consider the relativeness of yoga--not just as stretching, but as a spiritual practice toward's growing into your full potential.
I started this book last night, and I'm having a hard time putting it down.
Oh my goodness, I can't even begin to explain how amazing this book has been for me. As I said before, this book is relatable to anyone, even if they...more

Iyengar is one of the people who help me blow away the mustiness that often surrounds scripture in general and yogic lore in particular. This is a beautiful book.
I'll just use one point to illustrate. Iyengar spends considerable time drawing a distinction between the chatty, noisy mind and the deep, grounded, intuitive knowing that operates at our center. He says when we tap into that, the buddhi, we become fully engaged with life and suddenly find ourselves making a "myriad of meani...more

B.K.S is the yoga bomb! Really, I am savoring this book and, like Jewel Tree of Tibet, will probably revisit often. It is so enjoyable to savor selections that directly benefit yoga practice. Sometimes I just let a page pick me, go to any line, and apply whatever gem is there to that days practice.

I love this book and the manner in which Iyengar wrote it. He does a terrific job of "demystifying" yoga for people who've never tried it and detailing for others who follow the Iyengar method and want to improve their asana/pranayama, yogc experience.

A yogi philosopher's journey into becoming..well, a yogi. Pretty good, except I think it's translated by two people so I don't think all of his message is getting across so far. Anyhow, enlightening!

Sweetly written and warm. This one is good for those seeking more from their physical yoga practice. It covers the limbs of yoga andis almost an explaination of Patanjali's yoga sutra teachings.

excellent, b/c iyengar is such a brilliant guy. every line in this book is like, "oh my god, yeah!" so, you have to read it slowly. it's dense.

Wonderfully written, describing how the principles of yoga can be applied in life. This book goes beyond the physical layer of the practice.

I know this doesn't appeal to everyone but it is a biography of sorts on Yoga legend BKS Iyengar. Very deep read, I need to read it again!

The kind of book you want to read in spurts because the language is rich and deserves to be soaked in little by little.
