I have to admit I love a beautiful book cover and I think the cover to Countdown to Daddies is totally adorable! The cover alone would make me want to purchase the book (I know…it’s a sickness, right? LOL) Since it’s also a K-lee Klein book AND it has a gorgeous cover, well it’s simply a no-brainer for me to want to read and review it.

LOL) Since it’s also a K-lee Klein book AND it has a gorgeous cover, well it’s simply a no-brainer for me to want to read and review it.

The blurb does an excellent job at describing this little gem of a book. Matteo and Gabe have been together for five years. They have a wonderful relationship, but they both feel like something is missing from their lives. They want children, but with the problems with gay men adopting AND the hassle of finding a worthy surrogate mother, makes them wonder if they’ll ever have children of their own. When Gabe’s twin sister offers to be a surrogate for them, the next nine months begins to prepare them for being the daddies they long to be.

I loved this book. Ms. Klein writes compelling, thought-provoking stories with characters that live and breathe off of the written page. Between her sexy, well written characters and the intense emotional connection they have together, it keeps this reader anxiously wondering what will happen next. I loved the relationship Gabe and Matt had together. The love and respect they had for one another was so intense it really resonated with me as a reader. I also adored the humorous banter between them and other family members. There were many times I found myself laughing out loud from the things they said and the way they communicated and teased each other. This book is definitely an uplifting, feel-good read that totally had me hooked from the first page to the last word.

Funny, heartfelt and beautifully written, Countdown to Daddies left me with a happy heart and a huge smile on my face. I loved every second of this book and hated to see it come to an end. It’s the great mix of sweetness and romance that would be perfect pick-me-up on a cold, dreary winter’s day. Highly Recommended!

Cutest book cover ever. I've seen this cover on other books too and it still charms me every time I see it. That was the extent of my enjoyment, however.

This book did nothing for me. It seemed formulaic and made use of one of the tropes I dislike: the childish partner. It does not matter if the childish partner here is male, as opposed to the Barbie female or is the bear and the older of the couple. Gabe is 42 years old and Matteo I guess is about 28. Matteo is the mature, level headed sexy twink and Gabe is the huge muscular bear but is hilariously childish and immature (he is responsible and a clean freak though). The interaction between Gabe and his twin sister Mira is hilarious! I really enjoyed this story. Coming in at 49 pages, it was cute, sweet and a bit funny. The story brings us through the MC's decision to have kids up until homecoming after the hospital.

Spanning from idea, to conception, to pregnancy to delivery, their relationship is evolving at a quick pace as they try to adjust to the impending delivery of their first child. This is a story about how Matteo and Gabe work together in their relationship as well as a story about their frightening and exciting impending fatherhood. Gabe is a 40-something silver bear of a sort, and unlike assumption is instead outgoing, lively, and sometimes immature. Matteo is his much younger twinkish partner, who despite his small frame is often the more dominant partner in their relationship, as well as more mature than Gabe. They've finally decided to start a family, and Gabe's twin sister Mira has offered to carry the child. It's part strange, in a sibling dynamic way, but also kindof amazing to them. The story is about the change they each go through and the change their relationship goes through in the months waiting until they become daddies.

I had a bit of a mixed reception to this story. I think that it did many things really well. The dialogue and characterization are fantastic. There is very little narration -- the bulk of the story is firmly rooted in setting, place and time and each character is immediately distinctive through their voices in the dialogue. It is often funny and sometimes touching. I really felt like the panic, fear and uncertainty over the course they'd set upon came across well and showed what the author's message seems to be -- that gay fathers go through the same issues and fears that other parents have to deal with.

The conflict of the story is a bit subtle, only within the uncertainty in Matteo and especially Gabe that they show one another behind closed doors. I didn't really have many problems with the story at all, except for the format, the time jumps. The story isn't shown in linear fashion, instead mixed so that each "chapter" or designated scene could either be in the future or past in relation to the last one, at varying lengths (12 weeks, 28 weeks). Not only did I find the way these were designated confusing (I had to stop and think every time, is that 12 weeks in relation to when??), but I suppose I didn't really see why the non-linear story-telling was needed in the first place. It made the story feel a bit choppy to me, and though it didn't distract me terribly, it made me wonder just what the point was, and was I missing it?

All in all, this is a solid Fathers and Kids story. I usually like the stories where the children play a more prominent role better, but even though this story focuses on the time before the birth, I still felt like the idea of children became a character in the story all it's own, like a tulpa created by the two characters Matteo and Gabe, from overthought, whether good or bad. I definitely enjoyed the story, and I liked that the main character's roles were so clearly mixed up (dominant, mature young twink with immature, older bear). I had one little niggle: Bill (Mira's husband), often remarks to Matteo things like, this is how you deal with them together, referring to Gabe and twin sister Mira. But Matteo and Gabe have seemingly been together a while and the twins are pretty close, wouldn't he have already gotten to know the family dynamics pretty well?

I'd recommend this one. I liked it even though there were a few things that I had to think about and didn't quite seem to work for me. Pretty Good.(less)

One thing needs to be very clear on this story – you have got to enjoy the process of pregnancy. Not the making of the baby, but it is the countdown to the baby of Gabe and Matteo, surrogate mothered by Gabe’s twin sister, Mira (who is a joy unto herself, the way she talks and acts. These two guys were so funny, they had me in stitches. Gabe and Matty have been together for five years and are ready to settle down and raise a family. Gabe's sister offers to carry the baby for them so each of the men has a biological connection to the child. The story follows Gabe and Matty as the countdown to the baby's due date approaches.

There's no doubt in my mind that Gabe and Matty will make wonderfully loving parents! This story was short, but very sweet.

LOVED this book!! I haven't laughed out so many times in I don't know how long. And it's a short story too! 48 pages and it didn't feel short at all. K-lee did a fantastic job showing Gabe and Matteo's love, strength and weaknesses so well. And how they knew exactly when the other needed them. Loved how Gabe and Mira interacted! Reminded me of me and my siblings. lol And Bill, yeah he's a genious. This is def a fav of mine and I can't wait to read more of Ms. Klein's work!

Such a sweet and funny little story. I loved all the witty banter between not only Matteo and Gabe, but also with Mira and Bill. And Gabe's actions often had me cracking up as well (starting with when he tried to put on Matteo's underwear by mistake in his haste to get to the hospital). Even in the midst of all the chaos, the tenderness and love between Matteo and Gabe was simply beautiful. Brought back good memories for me from when my own kids were born :)

The cover is adorable and earned one star all on its own. The story is okay. The characters aren't very fleshed out and, while I liked the format the author chose, I think it would have been much more effective for a longer story as it felt quite rushed.

Not much to sink your teeth into here. It's cute enough, but I bet if you sat down and imagined you were a gay man (maybe you are!) awaiting the birth of your baby, your experience would be just as satisfying.

A short, fun read. Having had kids, the scenes with Mira do resonate but its the reactions of Gabe and Matteo to various situations that make the book fun. A nice sweet read.

This is a sweet, funny story about Gabe and Matteo, two guys in a longterm relationship making the decision to have a baby by surrogate. Matteo is the sperm donor and the willing mother is Gabe's twin sister, which is lovely and familial, and at the same time a bit weird and uncomfortable, at least for Gabe.
