Not expecting to stay long in Deer Lick, Kelly finds herself helping out at the Sugar Shack and face to face with Deputy James Harley. Embarrassed but turned on when remembering their one night together after her sister’s wedding, Kelly can’t let herself get involved because the day she’s heading back to Chicago is fast approaching. Or so she thinks anyway.

Seeing Kelly again only brings good memories to mind, ones James would like to live again. Knowing Kelly won’t be around long, James does his best to see her as often as possible, even challenging her to really find herself and do what makes her happy. When he realizes he’d like to have her with him all the time, he knows that can never be because of his situation at home. His mother has suffered a stroke and now James has her girly dogs and his rebellious younger brother to watch out for. He has too much baggage to bring someone like Kelly into his life.

What I love about his Ms. Terry’s stories is the journey of discovery her characters have. Though James and Kelly shared that one night together, there’s plenty, of course, they don’t know about each other. They both have huge issues they’d rather have stay buried, but for the relationship to work they have to share. Eventually. Kelly’s biggest disappointment was played out in the courtroom and in the news. The whole world knows. But what no one does know is what that one failure has done to her. She keeps telling herself she’s going back to the job, pick up where she left off and move on. But she also keeps ignoring those texts from her co-worker letting her know the next trial date has been moved up. James’ secret has had a much longer time to grow into guilt that he’s never let go. Though no one knows about his biggest mistake, it’s the most difficult thing for him to talk about, and it takes quite a while before he can open up to Kelly.

Though there are those tense moments in the story, especially with James’ younger brother, there’s such fun to be had with these characters. I still like the fact that the siblings’ deceased mother gives her kids advice by haunting her old boat of a Buick – and they know she’s about to appear when Tom Jones begins to sing It’s Not Unusual on the radio. I still laugh at that. And the scene where James leaves chocolate hand prints on the wall of the Sugar Shack – oh, that’s my favorite! Kelly’s journey of discovering what makes her happy is unexpected and totally fun. There’s so many good times in this book that I’d have a list for you as long as my arm if I went through them all.

If you’ve not read this series, you need to start on it soon. Ms. Terry’s writing brings a depth to the characters, amusement to the reader, intensity to the lovemaking, enlightenment to life’s issues, and a fun, new look at romance novels. I’m anxiously awaiting to see what she does next!

After reading the blurb of Somebody Like You, I knew immediately that this was my kind of book because after all, who doesn't like romance (except for guys - they don't count)? This is the first book I've read that's by Candis Terry and it was pretty much what I expected.

Deputy James Harley was glad to see Kelly back in the tiny town of Deer Lick, Montana. He'd been waiting for her return. They'd had a one night stand, and he'd not been able to get her off his mind ever since. She'd somehow gotten under his skin. He knew she was out of his league, but there was something about her that he just couldn't resist. So to get her to loosen up and start thinking about him again, he decided to make her a wager, that he could once again get her to succumb to another night of his wily charm.

This is the third installment of the Sugar Shack series by Candis Terry. The Sugar Shack is a family owned and operated bakery that Kelly's mom, Letty, used to run with her father before she'd died. Her father stills bakes, but her sister, Kate, has taken over the reigns giving the place a new flair as only she could do. Kelly's sister and brother, Dean, each found their true love with the help of dear old mom who'd come back to haunt them in a good way. Now it was Kelly's turn to be the focus of Letty's motherly advice.

James is a known player who dates a ton of women, but swears that he never dates more than one at a time. He's had that bad boy thing down pat since his teens and now that he's one of the good guys sporting a badge, he's even more attractive than ever. This is one wager Kelly won't lose any sleep over, well maybe one night's worth, if she loses. But throughout the story James challenges Kelly on many different levels--too see the natural beauty of things and be a little wild and find her hidden talent. He basically opens up the world to the girl once given the nickname by her siblings of Sister Serious.

At one point in the story, a little girl mentions the book Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. She talks of how Max tames the 'Wild Things' and then gets to go home. I think that nicely sums up this book at a couple of different points. First for the little girl, which I won't go into detail, but secondly, for James' and Kelly's relationship as well. Kelly tames the Wild Things which are Alex and James and gets to go home. A new home that includes James and his brother Alex who lives with him. Each of whom is in their own way, a bit wild and lost. So, in a way, this one might very well qualify as a fairy tale remake.

FYI, I really thought the cover was a nice touch to the story. Someone, who shall remain nameless, teasingly suggests they'd like to put the two little dogs, Princess and Poppy, into pink dresses with bows, but doesn't do it. So after reading the book take another look at the cover and smile at the inside joke and remember that moment. It's actually a pivotal point in the book because someone comes to a realization at that moment.

This was a fun and lighthearted read that at times, left me shaking my head, grinning, and laughing out loud. My daughter kept asking me what was so funny, and I'd respond, "Oh, nothing.' Yep, she knew it was the book, and I wasn't sharing.

Overall, I gave this one 5 out of 5 roses. Sometimes the brilliance of a book is lodged within the details for which it holds, and I believe this is one of them. On the Lisarenee Romance Rating Scale, this one gets a STEAM rating--too hot for a fan, but you still have a handle on things. You should use extreme caution when reading a book with this rating in public. People may inquire as to why you looked flustered and flushed. Between this book and Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, I'm starting to look at bakeries in a whole new way. lol(less)

SOMEBODY LIKE YOU by Candis Terry is a touching, sweet story that I was easily able to relate to on many levels. I fell for James Harley as hard as Kelly did and found myself easily stepping into Kelly's shoes. I enjoyed the previous Sugar Shack romances but I think this one is the best yet. I found myself cheering for James every time he brought Kelly closer to recognizing her true self even while I found myself wanting to give James a hug when he felt he wasn't worthy and a kick in the butt wh...more

She has a few weeks before another trial begins and since her brother is getting married to Emma, it is a good excuse to visit, stay awhile and make some decisions.

Kate, her little sister is running the Sugar Shack with their father. Kate's new husband, Matt is the sheriff of Deer Lick, Montana and his best friend James Harley is the deputy, James also happens to be the one night stand Kelly had during her sister's wedding reception at Christmas time. Kelly rarely drinks, always being Sister Serious, however, she let loose for the wedding and they shared an exciting night together, and then she left. She knows she would see James again, she just did not know it would be on the first day she is back in town.

Kelly is driving her mother's old car while in town; little does she know that both her sister and brother experienced the same strange occurrence with their recently deceased mother whenever Tom Jones starts singing on the radio. Kelly never had a great relationship with her mom; she was the one that did everything right and therefore felt invisible. Her mother did not realize she treated the children differently and so, as with her brother and sister, seems to want to make amends with Kelly and tell her she was loved. Her mother just communicates is an unconventional way.

James has his own problems to handle, several years ago his mother suffered a stroke and therefore he inherited two Yorkshire terriers (Poppy and Princess) and has been raising his brother (Alex) who is a teenager that seems to be finding trouble. James was a troubled kid and knows what his brother is heading for, if not for a life changing event that almost killed him and a sheriff who took him under his wing, James would not have survived his younger years.

Kelly and James bump into each other several times, and although neither seems to be looking for a relationship, they appear to be having one. At one time, James tells her she needs to find her hidden talent, something that makes her and others smile. She meets Twinkie (a clown) at the hospital and as they talk about what clowns can do for others Kelly begins to think that she might have just found it. Sprinkles is born as her alter ego.

As the story unfolds, the road to a happy ending has some rough patches; Kelly and James have several obstacles to overcome. Kelly faces a decision about her future and how she feels about herself and her mother and James needs to deal with his brother Alex. It is a wonderful story about family, love and finding your hidden talents to make you and others smile. I love seeing characters from the first two books; the interaction is fun and entertaining. You do not have to read the first two books to jump in to this book; however they are great stories to read.

The last Silverthorne sibling has come back home. Kelly lost a high profile case, her first as a prosecutor and it’s really hit her confidence hard and made her question if she really loves what she’s doing and if not, why is she still there? Most notably, she runs into James, a deputy that she had a sexy, hot night with at her sister’s wedding months earlier. James is attracted to her, and wants to spend more time with Kelly now that she’s back in town, but Kelly aka the Serious Sister, has no idea what she wants.

James has a full plate – he’s the guardian for his rebellious 17-year old brother, his mom needs in-home care after suffering a stroke, he inherited her two ankle biting dogs and he’s working full time. But, the man needs a break and he’s set his sights on Kelly. He wants her to loosen up, have some fun and he plans some dates out for them to get to know each other better.

The angst level in this book is very low, the only real drama coming from James’s brother, Alex. He’s lived with James for years now, but they butt heads all the time. James is caught between being a big brother and a father and Alex acts out when he isn’t able to communicate with his brother. This storyline had so much potential and really drew my interest early on, especially when Kelly is brought into the mix. The resolution for the brothers felt very fast to me. There’s so much build up with the hostility, the fighting, the lack of communication and all it took was Kelly spending one day with Alex, and helping him through one sticky situation that he found himself in for the brothers to finally turn it around. It felt like this storyline took a really fast 180 and everything worked itself out fast.

The romance between James and Kelly was nice, but lacked a little in the sparks department. They progressed well through the book, fighting at the end over little brother Alex. It seems like the angst in their relationship towards the end got tossed in so there would be something for them to overcome in the final few pages. It didn’t feel necessary and seeing them instead use that communication that Kelly had been going on about would felt more natural.

I liked seeing Kelly find her happiness. She goes from basically having no idea what makes her happy and what she really wants to do, to trying a little bit of everything. From coming up with a new item to contribute to the Sugar Shack, to sewing, to making sick little kids laugh while being dressed up as clown, she goes for it, and seems to have a great time doing it. Her brother and sister play strong supporting roles in this story, and the book wraps up with a nice epilogue giving us an idea about what’s going on in everyone’s life and where things are headed.

Overall, I thought this was an ok read. It’s not my favorite in the series, I found it hard to connect to the main relationship; it felt like something was missing. The family dynamic is always something I look forward to, especially the scenes between Kelly and her dad. As a whole, I did enjoy the Sugar Shack series and would recommend the first two books, but this one just fell a little short. (less)

This short and sweet read at 18 chapters is what I needed to keep me occupied on a slow day. And I liked that CTerry wrote the story in alternating POV's, I like books where we're let inside the guy's head and made privy to their dirty thoughts and filtered reactions. And for Sugar Shack fans, I think you'll love this because Kate and Dean made appearances and I'm pretty sure you'll be loving Kate's mini story line in this one. Chicago prosecutor Kelly Silverthorne has always been called “Sister Serious” by her family, but she doesn’t let it bother her. Then she loses her first case ever and decides to return to her hometown to lick her wounds…and maybe even take a chance to let go of “Sister Serious.” And what better way is there to let go than to take up with Deputy James Harley, the man she had a one-night stand with at her sister’s wedding? Yet while Kelly is willing to take James up on his challenge to try new things, she’s not about to get crazy and do something as risky as losing her heart to the former bad boy. At least, not without a few supernatural pushes from her dearly not-quite-departed mother.

Return to Deer Lick, Montana in Somebody Like You. Like Candis Terry’s previous two Sugar Shack novels, Somebody Like You is an ode to small towns and finding yourself, with romance as the backdrop. Kelly and James are likeable characters and what endeared them to me the most was that each was more than what others saw them to be. They fit together perfectly and made the pages of Somebody Like You sizzle, so it was easy to become invested in their romance. The town of Deer Lick continues to delight with its plethora of goodhearted residents and the Food Network fan in me was particularly thrilled by the scenes at the Silverthorne family bakery, the Sugar Shack.

Somebody Like You is the third Sugar Shack book, but you don’t have to have read Second Chance at the Sugar Shack or Any Given Christmas to enjoy Kelly and James’s story. All the characters from the first two books do play supporting roles, however, which is not surprising since those books featured Kelly’s siblings. Having read Second Chance at the Sugar Shack and Any Given Christmas, I was a bit disappointed in Kelly’s journey. Without providing spoilers, Kelly’s discovery of her “passion” in life didn’t seem organic to her character, which was a bit of a letdown since Ms. Terry did Kate and Dean Silverthorne’s journeys of self-discovery so well in their books. Also slightly disappointing in the context of the series as a whole was the comparatively small role the ghost of Kelly’s mother played in Somebody Like You. That being said, I still enjoyed Somebody Like You, even though Second Chance at the Sugar Shack remains my favorite book in the series. Overall, Somebody Like You is a fun read that fans of lighthearted contemporary romance should enjoy.(less)

Kelly Silverthorne can home to Deer Lick for her brother's wedding, but she also needed some Rest, Relaxation and Recuperation from her fast paced life in Chicago, and her last case that crumbled beneath her feet at trial. The last thing she thinks she wants is another night of unbelievable passion with Deputy James Harley, but her body and her mind are not playing on the same team.

Deputy Harley has enough on his plate to worry about, from his ill mother, to a seventeen year-old brother who has a BIG chip on his shoulder, to worrying about keeping a roof over all of their heads. He likes to keep his relationships simple, no expectations and no one gets hurt, but for some reason Kelly Silverthorne has always been the thorne in that plan, and since the last time he'd had her, he hasn't been able to stop thinking about having her again and again and again.

James thinks he is only going to be teaching Kelly to "have more fun", but in the end, I think James learns more than he ever thought possible and Kelly finally finds out what makes her truly happy, with a little help from Lettie Silverthorne and her denim over rolls.

I think this may have been my favorite book of the series. I loved each and every one, but this one has something special that took my sixteen year-old heart and spun it on spin cycle, Alex Harley.....swoon!!

Alex Harley not only challenges James up to his eyeballs, but you can see how lost and lonely he is, and that's exactly what Kelly sees when she gets the chance to get to know him better. I am SOOOOOO looking forward to the day that Candis writes a book where Alex is the hero, a heart-breaker at seventeen can only be worse for women's hearts at thirty!!

When I was finished reading Somebody Like You, I was left light-hearted and smiling from ear to ear. I just loved it!! James was SO much more than you would think at first glance. He was more than just a great body and charming smile, the typical playboy. He was sweet, kind and had a heart big enough to fill a room. So sometimes his head didn't catch up with his mouth when he was angry, and spewing all the wrong things...we can forgive him that!

I wasn't too sure about Kelly. I didn't get to know her all that well in the last two Sugar Shack books, and I honestly didn't think I was going to like her all that much, but Candis sure proved me wrong. I loved Kelly!! I thought she was funny and strong, sensitive but wasn't one to get walked on. I love her honesty, and the way she always told it like it is. James got A LOT more than he bargained for with Kelly Silverthorne, but if anyone can handle her, I know he can. And if not, Alex would scoop her up in a second...hee hee!!

I HIGHLY recommend Somebody Like You to EVERYONE!! It is a stand alone book, but I would recommend reading Second Chance at the Sugar Shack and Any Given Christmas first, just so you can enjoy all that Deer Lick, Montana has to offer!! Oh and you get to see more Matt Ryan...swoon...cant' go wrong with more Matt Ryan!!

This is the first I have read from Candis Terry and have to say I loved it. Now I have to get the other two books from the Sugar Shack series. The whole mother still interfering in her children's lives was great. The story line was so funny, romantic and just outright awesome. This is definitely a book that would keep and an author to keep up to date.

I didn't like this one as much as the last. For me, the emotional upheaval didn't quite ring true and I felt the plot line with the brother was rather hastily done and thus the payoff at the end wasn't as satisfying.

What a fabulous end to this series. I love Kelly, and even though I loved all the Silverthorne siblings and their stories, I think this one was my favorite. I will admit to tears in a couple places, and I completely ignored everything I was supposed to do to read this book instead.

Third in the Sugar Shack series, this is Kelly's story. Her siblings, Dean and Kate have all found happiness back home in Deer Lick. And so does she, with James Harley, Deputy. As romances go, it's a good read, the characters are likable, love scenes are hot, and the male protagonist has his angst to get over, with Kelly the one to help him do it.

Fun, fast, and worth a look.
