As with the *sigh* conventional romance novels I read recently, these three novellas were finally tackled because I thought I'd give the book away. After "Grigia" (Grey One) I still wanted to do so. "Die Portugiesin" (The Portugese Lady) was surprisingly close to what I learned are very popular historical romances, but even if Musil's strength lies in the gap between men and women, the depictions of his characters did not tell me anything or enough about them - I don't need the sickening talldar...more

I am not sure about these stories. I did liked them, but for some reason I got bored while I read them. I even left one started, read other things for some time and then restarted from where I had left it. Good luck reading it...

Keine tiefgreifenden Observationen, keine echten Charaktere. Was soll das?

I would give 2 stars to this book but I loved the first Story Grigia in comparison to others due to its wonderful language and a little shocking ending. For the other two stories, I must say I felt like the words are there but I couldn't reach them. The way the author depicts and reflects the characters also seemed quite distant to me. Besides, the author's approach to betrayal and women is disputable.

Trama: Non ci provo nemmeno.
Reperibilità: Discreta.
Voto: 99,9 su 100.

I honestly don't get the appeal from Musil. Whatever I read by him, I am asking myself: OK, what was the actual need to write down this shit stuff? *siiigh*
Same here. Even though it was ok-ish to read so that is something. Or maybe I am just too stupid to get the higher appeal from it. LOL

Austrian writer.

He graduated military boarding school at Eisenstadt (1892-1894) and then Hranice, in that time also known as Mährisch Weißkirchen, (1894-1897). These school experiences are reflected in his first novel - The confusions of young Törless.

He served in army during World War I. When Austria became a part of the Third Reich in 1938, Musil left for exile in Switzerland, where he died of...more
