Why Don't I Ever Listen?

I was looking forward to the story and hoping so, so hard that it would knock my socks off. People were telling me not to get my hopes up and I was defending this story because shifters AND babies should be a recipe for greatness. I was the champion of the baby/shifter book.

This book though....this book did not work for me at all.

Travis is a guy who's won custody of his 2 year old daughter but lost everything else in the process. Liam is a shifter who works for his alpha,...more

Liam is running an errand for his Alpha when the scent of a man gets his attention. Even without his shifter senses, he can tell the other man is down on his luck. But, being a shifter he is keenly aware that the other man is just as attracted, if not a tad leery of Liam. But attraction isn’t enough to make Travis accept Liam’s invitation to lunch. Fortunately, Travis’s d...more

Actually 2.5 stars. It certainly was not as good as I expected. So much details are missing and I was left with so much questions. Liam's character was stiff and stilted and Alexandrea the ex contradicts herself. Is she just nuts? Obsessed with Travis? Wasupwith that? It looks like a promising series though so I will definitely buy the next book for some clarity.

This is one of those stories that is a great mix between sweet and paranormal, involving werewolves no less. Oh, and the underlying humor was great as well. I mean, a werewolf doing the personal shopping for his Alpha’s sister, and owns two dogs – really? Yes, I did a bit of a double take as well, but as I read this short book I found that I quite liked this variation on the more ‘serious’ werewolf stories. It’s not an easy mix to maintain, but this author does it quite well.

Liam is the ‘unusual...more

What a wonderful cover, 5 starts for sure, I purchased the book only because of it.
This story is missing so many things, and I hope the sequels are going to get better and better.
No bad beginning, but, some on us, read thousands of books and we compare with other Authors and other stories, and we are more hard to please.
Not one of the best I had read by far, but still better than many others also.
Will I buy the next sequel? for sure I will.

The story opens with Liam entering a boutique shop with his two hundred pound Neapolitan Mastiffs. He enters the shop to pick up a gift for his Alpha’s sister. This is his first meeting with Travis, the man who would change his life forever.

Travis was the reason I loved this book, his struggles to keep his family together rang whole-heartedly and honest. Not only did he make me feel that family is the most valuable thing in the world but also see how much he would sacrifice for his daughter.

The writing didn't convince me completely. Maybe 'cause it's Caitlin Ricci's first published novella. From start to finish I missed a more detailed story. What happened leading up to Travis meeting Liam? What's the pack like, especially Samson? He's mentioned only 2 or 3 times as Liam's boss and that's it. What's Liam's role/position/function in the pack? Why can Hannah see wolves? Do the humans know about the shifters? It's not very apparent as sometimes I got the feeling they do whereas at oth...more

Almost Paradise drew me in with its interesting cover and intriguing blurb. Most of us, when we see the main character is a parent, jump right into the story, and lately we just hope for the best. This one also has shifters and financial trouble that in my experience tends to make things interesting, so I pretty much had to read it.

As the blurb says, Travis has been through a lot as he fought for the custo...more

This book frustrated me to no end. I liked the characters ok, I just feel that I didn't get to know them very well. There was no back story at all for Liam, we only know that he works for the Alpha and picks up stuff for his Alpha's twin. I guess I just wanted MORE. The storyline was great and held my attention, but I never got to click with the characters and that is my favorite part of a book. I will still read the next book in the series because I want to see where the story will lead. The li...more

Perhaps the fact that this is book 1 in a series, explains why I was left with a few questions about the characters. Liam works for a pack alpha, although I’m not exactly sure as what. However one day while out picking up items for the alpha’s sister, he sees a man with a small child looking for work and on a whim invites him for lunch. The man is hesitant, but has no money having spent everything he had winning custody of his daughter. When L...more

Liam Glass is on a errand for the Alpha of his pack, Sampson. His mission? To buy gifts for Evangeline, Sampson’s twin sister and equally powerful wolf. With him are his two young Neapolitan Mastiffs, Lucy and Ethel. As he is finishing his business at the jewelry shop they frequent, a frazzled man enters with his young daughter. The stranger is looking for work when his daughter notices the dogs with squeals of joy. Everything about the man and his daughter speaks to Liam’s inner...more

I found Almost Paradise to be a heartwarming story of Travis and Liam learning to trust each other, and hoping for love in the end. Travis takes Liam up on a job offer hoping that the man in sincere in wanting to help. When Liam returns from his business trip he discovers that Travis is upset and behaving irrationally because of Hannah’s mother, Alexandrea. When Hannah’s mother shows up on the scene Liam is the right man to put her in her place.

Waiting for some friends reviews before committing. But am interested based on the cuteness of the cover alone!

I really liked this story.

The characters are all well defined and so too their personalities. I love Travis' stubborn independence and his total devotion to his daughter's wellfare. I smile when I think of Liam's strong dominating personality and his urge to growl/frown when he can't get his way. His easy acceptance of little Hannah is heartwarming and makes him so cool in my book. The sexual tension between the two MC's sizzles throughout which always makes for good reading.

I think readers are going to be frustrated by Caitlin Ricci’s ALMOST PARADISE and either hate it for that or love it for the same reason. I fall into the second camp. I am totally enchanted by this story. Bear in mind, this is the first book of a series and is dedicated to the set up of a shifter world.
Trust me that it’s worth a little disappointment in not knowing how everything turns out immediately. I am so eager to read the next book and I think you will be, too.

After two rough years, Travis is a man who has nothing now but his young daughter, Hannah. Out looking for any kind of work, he meets Liam, a strange man who gives him an opportunity to watch Liam’s dogs for the weekend for some quick cash. There’s instant trust between the two and Hannah takes a quick shinnying to Liam. There’s a connection between them but Liam’s hiding something from Travis and not only that but Hannah seems to know exa...more

This is a very sweet story. There are a lot of loose ends so I'm expecting good things from the next story. It was way too short, we were just getting to know the characters and the story was over. It felt a bit rushed as the whole story takes place over 4 days and already the two MC are happily living together, even though Liam was away for 2 of the four days.

I found it charming and Hannah was the over all saving point in this story. She more than either of the MC's made this story.

I really enjoyed this story and the beginning of a new series. I hope the series will continue to explore the characters in this book as well as introducing others. I liked the sense that there is much more to Liam than meets the eye and soft hints of darkness and mystery about his character and his relationship with his boss. I am looking forward to reading more from this author and from this series.

Uhm... Well, too much things are not explained, like, why the little girl can "sense/see" the real form of the wolf-shifters.
And the two MC's decide to live together after only four days (moreover in two of these four days, Liam was absent). o__O Oh, well.
Anyway, it wasn't really bad and I wonder if the next book will be about Liam and Travis again, or a completely different couple.

I felt like this story skimmed its way from start to finish. It didnt delve into any deeper emotions and I didnt feel emotionally connected to the characters fight to keep his daughter. The author has great potential and I will read more from her but this book tends to tell me facts not show me.

The cover was simply adorable so I bought it mainly for that. The story not so much. There was so much missing in this. It felt like more of an outline instead of a complete story. It didn't seem flushed out completely. It left me with more questions than anything else. Maybe some of these will be answered in the sequel. The characters didn't feel complete either. Will I read the sequel? Sure, because I want to know if my questions will be answered. Will I go past book 2? We'll have to see on th...more

2.5 stars (rounded up cause it's the author's first book).

The writing style was a bit awkward and the ending felt rather rushed (HFN for those who don't like that, btw) but I'll definitely give her next book a try.

I would give it a 2.5 but have rounded up to 3. It is rather "flat" and there is no real sense of romance, the characters are not well developed, the scenario was promising but it was not realised.

Mandi
2 stars. (.5 star for the cute cover that convinced me to buy) This never really built up to the potential the blurb suggested. Too many open threads at the end of the story and I just wasn't convinced in the romance. (though it is book one, so maybe that's why?)
Meggie
Hm this story was enjoyable enough, but the main plot developed to fast and it wasn't realistic at all. Liam was an interesting character, but everything else felt rushed and bland.

I liked the story, and I agree with other reviews - we missed details on their pack, why Hannah could see them, etc.

Also, they meet on a friday and on Sunday they're commited to live together? Their relationship could have developed in a reasonable period of time and their agreement to live together was too cold for me.

"Name what you want to stay with me" and so he named? Too much like a businedd transaction. I missed more sentiment on their relationship.

But, I Will check the sequence for sure....more

Caitlin was fortunate growing up to be surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged her love of reading. She has always been a voracious reader and that love of the written word easily morphed into a passion for writing. If she isn't writing, she can usually be found studying as she works toward her counseling degree. She comes from a military family and the men and women of the armed forces...more
