The main storyline was okay, but a bit to melodramatic for my own taste. Everything circled around one simple fact, to accept your won spirit mate and claim him or lose him forever. Or simply kill him and draw your own fate without a spirit mate who would complete you like no one else. I have to admit, I felt annoyance while reading this story. It wasn't a good emotion.

It was ok but it didn't blow my mind. I was a little annoyed that the family trusted Nicu right away and were even mean to Lucius at times, which was supposed to be part of this family.

The secondary characters feel almost unnecessary, Manny and Kris especially, their appearances are short and not really relevant to the plot. Ali was the most important supporting character and I didn't like him, I felt he was annoying and bordering bully with his powers, especially the mind reading one, it left...more

I have to admit that I prefer my paranormal romances to be on the light side, and I was very pleased to discover this new author and her young and cute characters. Lucius is part of a family of misfits, i.e. Ali, alias “Mama Bear”, a white witch who manages an households of shifter rejects, Lucius, an artic wolf, Manny, a mountain lion, and Kristof, a bear. In the past few years, I’ve read a lot of paranormal books. Many of them are about shifters, and although most of them are a lot alike, I still enjoy them because most of them are interesting and…well…hot. Every once in a while, I feel privileged to read a paranormal/shifter book that puts a different spin on the whole well used storyline. In the past few years, I’ve read a lot of paranormal books. Many of them are about shifters, and although most of them are a lot alike, I still enjoy them because most of them are interesting and…well…hot. Every once in a while, I feel privileged to read a paranormal/shifter book that puts a different spin on the whole well used storyline. In my opinion, Lucius Bite is everything that I love about reading romance and more.

One of the main reasons why I loved this book is: the feel of love and camaraderie between all of the main characters in the book. Lucius has an array of mismatched roommates that are more like family than friends. Each of his roommates have different abilities about them, and although they are all very different in personality and instinct, they all fit together quite nicely. I liked the way these men really loved each other and I could sense a true bond between them.

Also, there is a lot more to Lucius than meets the eye. At first glance, he tries to convince himself and others that he really doesn’t need anyone. Oh, he cares about his roommates, but he doesn’t believe in love, nor does he want too. But this changes the moment that Nicu walks in the door. I’ve heard the saying: The bigger they are, the harder they fall, and in Lucius’ sake, this is very true. Unfortunately, because of Lucius’ past, he’s afraid to love and be loved. He constant lives in fear of his wolf side hurting others, and once he meets and falls for Nicu, he is almost obsessed with keeping him from his wolf side and instincts.

Nicu is another character that I fell in love with. Because he’s a gypsy, he’s also got some special gifts. I adored the unselfish and unconditional love he gave Lucius. Nicu’s willingness to allow to Lucius to come to terms with his own love and fears made him not only one of the most kindhearted heroes that I’ve read in a long time, but a true hero in every sense of the word. His patience and undeniable love and respect he has for Lucius was beautiful to read. I loved Nicu, and I thought he and Lucius were perfect for each other.

This is the first book I’ve read by K-lee Klein. I really enjoyed this author’s way of really getting into the heart and soul of her characters. There is also a really good balance between humor and just the right amount of angst in this book that kept this reader enthralled with the story and continuously guessing at what was going to happen next. I truly loved all of the main characters in the book and I CAN’T wait until the next book in the Family of Misfits series. If you are looking for a unique and sexy paranormal romance, Lucius Bite is definitely the book for you!

I have to be honest, I actually had no idea what to expect when I bought the book. I got this book from an excerpt where a werewolf was changed into a chicken by a witch and almost eaten by a werecat. Now what was I supposed to make of that. I bought the book initially because it appealed to my sense of fun and it was really well written.

Lucius, Ali, Manny and Kristof made such a unique little family. I liked each and every one of them and already have a soft spot for Manny, who deserves an extra special mate. I thought Lucius and Nicu made a great couple and their different personalities helped to balance each other, but all the rules regarding the spirit mate aspect of their relationship became a little tiresome and redundant. Lucius had to make a life-changing decision in a relatively short amount of time (involving a man who was basically still a stranger), but he was also being deliberately kept in the dark by Nicu and Ali about some pretty important things because they weren't allowed to break the rules and tell him what he needed to do. What about all those spirit mates out there who may not even be aware there is such a thing as spirit mates (or the rules) and they still can't be told about something that could affect them the rest of their lives (or possibly put their lives in danger)? Lucius's aversion to biting Nicu and the resulting consequences took up a big part of the storyline but some things about spirit mates and Lucius's past still remain unclear to me (view spoiler). I loved the humorous interactions between Lucius and his den brothers/mama so I'm looking forward to future stories. And since I'm assuming both Ali and his future mate know all about spirit mates, maybe their story can avoid repeating a lot of the same drama as this one.(less)

Lucius' Bite is the start of a new fantasy/paranormal series with a unique twist on the mating theme. Lucius is an Arctic Wolf shifter whose den family consists of misfits they've gathered along their way alone in the world, away for different reasons from their real families. There is Lucius, Manny (an emotionally damaged Mountain Lion shifter), and Kristof (a bright and sunny Bear? shifter). Rounding out the bunch is the den mother and Mama to all, Ali, a male white witch who completely rules the roost. They're a happy and unlikely mix of friends who have become family over time.

Lucius is knocked off his feet, literally, when Nicu comes to visit, seemingly out the blue. He starts to feel for the long-dreaded Romanian gypsy who seems to know everything about him. It seriously freaks him out too -- previously, he's never had a real relationship and he's liked it that way. But, as the two get closer some of the secrets start to come to light, about Lucius' past, and about the reason that Nicu has traveled halfway around the world to meet him and already in love with him.

This story really intrigued me in a lot of ways. First off, it pulled me in immediately, with a really funny first scene and a well crafted one. Within a couple pages it is easy to see just how much this little makeshift family loves one another. I liked Lucius and Nicu right off the bat. They're very different. Lucius is often surly and very easily fits into the bad-boy camp, while Nicu's looks and voice (written very well to come off as immediately foreign -- that was nicely done) make him immediately exotically sexy. Even with obvious duplicity in the reason for his visit (in a strange way) he's completely open and earnest and genuinely sweet.

I was impressed in the first half of the book with the delivery of information. It is doled out sparingly and at opportune moments, but just underhanded enough to keep you guessing along with Lucius, even though we, as readers, are privy to just a bit more of it than him, always keeping us one step ahead. I did have a few problems with it later in the book though, and I can't decide if it is personal bias or the fact that this author is saving up some of that information for the next book instead of giving it to us.

The main problem that I had was this: Nicu shows up about a week before the time in which this situation and relationship must be complete, but cannot say anything about it directly to Lucius. But, Lucius is a tough nut to crack, and he hides a lot from the information right in front of him. To me, that wasn't his fault, though I'm sure a case could be made otherwise. So I wondered, why couldn't Nicu have come earlier? It would have given Lucius more time to warm to a relationship at a more realistic pace. Was that explained and I don't remember it? Possible. Was it a decision made to motivate the plot forward? I don't know… Does anyone else care after finishing this besides me? Probably not. So take that with a grain of salt. It just made me a bit uncomfortable with all the pressure put on Lucius in the end. Still, that's not illegal or anything, I mean I cared enough about the characters to feel that way. So it's definitely in one of those grey areas for me, where I really can't decide how I feel about it.

I'm very much looking forward to the next book in this series. It is about one of the family that I really loved in this book and I'm looking forward to getting some of those answers… I hope! I'll just have to wait and see. I still really liked this and I liked that the author used some unconventional themes to diverge a bit from the shifter status quo. There were a few times during my reading that the pace lulled a bit. At times it would move quite fast and then settle for some introversion on the MC's part.

In the end, if this author can continue to bring new plots to this series and they don't end up following in line too similarly to this book, I know I will really enjoy this series. I'm looking forward to finding out!(less)

Really cute/sad story, from a wizard turning a wolf into a chicken to a spirit mate having conversations with himself. And throw in the scary grandma.

Nicu has been searching for his spirit mate for many yeas and now that he has found him, Lucius does not want to claim him. If Lucius does not claim him soon, Nicu will die. The internal struggle Lucius goes through is humorous at at times but he soon realizes that this is a very serious situation with deadly consequences.

2.5 stars. Run of the mill paranormal romance between a human and his reluctant werewolf soulmate. The story is set in a kind of frathouse where Lucius lives with his friends, Manny, Kristof (both shifters) and Ali (a mage and the 'den mother' of the group). Nicu, a gypsy from Romania, knows that Lucius is his soul mate and turns up to try and convince him to acknowledge the bond. The catch is that Nicu can't tell Lucius that he will die if Lucius doesn't accept him.

I was not sure about Lucius at first since he stubbornly wants to hold onto his bias, however, the more you find out and understand about how he came to be where he is, and the glimpses you see into his heart, particularly with the character of Manny (LOVE him), you learn there is so much more to him, even if there are moments you want to knock him upside his head!

Ali, Kristof and Manny are the rest of Lucius' family, all great characters with some kind of supernatural ability, who came together for different reasons and have created their family - I do hope there is a story in the works for all of them, and that Manny gets someone who deserves him, he's so sweet,I pretty much fell in love with him with his first appearance!

Ali is the one who brings humour and wisdom, as the "head" of the family, you can tell he loves them all, but will not put up with much either!!!

Manny is the one you love and want to protect - and they all do and Kristof is the big softy, who will protect or knock sense into whoever in the family is needing at the time!

Then there is Nicu, the human main character with such a gentle soul and big heart.

I can't say much of the plot because I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that the journey Lucius and Nicu take is fantastic, the lines between letting things happen and trying to help them along is quite the dance, and the common connect for both of them is Ali, knowing where both of them are coming from, what they could be and wanting to help while respecting that choices must be made willingly in order for the feelings to be real.

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it if you like shifter/supernatural characters - there is not a lot of shifting in the book, but the "lines" of shifters and humans are a key element.

I can hardly wait to see where the next book goes, especially for how it ended off and the knowledge the characters now have.(less)

Was good reading material but to dramatical for my own liking. Its about a guy Lucius who had very bad experience when he was young. His dad was killed and he couldn't forget about it. Now in present he is someone who has sex with strangers and don't believe in love or even in having a mate as a wolf. His life get turned upside down when he meets Nicky. The problems is that Nicky is his spiritual mate.

This was an okay read for me but I was really hoping for more.

There just wasn’t enough to the story. No drama or any mystery just a story about Lucius, a shifter who doesn't want a mate ever and Nicu his spirit mate that won't survive if Lucius doesn't make him his, then there's a few quirky family members that you don't really get to know. I read the discription and thought: great that sounds cool.

But it wasn't really fun reading the book.
I think they were to hard to Lucius. Ali with his all-knowing arrogant habit, and Nicu with all his secrets.
Lucius was forced so hard into this mating and no one is there for him to answer his questions.
There was a happy end, but maybe it would have been better if Lucius just had turned his back on them..

The family characters were nice and interesting, the plot itself wasn't quite as much...

The book covered 4-5 days and that it was this long... It's too long for me. Lucius was reluctant, and understandably so from his perspective but he didn't actually *manned* up until the very end. I guess I am not a fan of push and pull type of courting...

I lusted over the cover forever. And maybe that's why I had really high expectations for this book. But in the end Lucius's Bite bite me in the wrong way. The writing style didn't work for me at all, plus the plot felt slow and kinda boring...and the characters well, they weren't too memorable...

So I have to say that while this book had a great premise, it failed to capture me :(

A little bit slow but still a fantastic read. The author wrote the relationship development brilliantly. She did wonderful. The way they connected as a mate was original and different from other shifters books. I can't wait to read the sequel!! Highly recommended! :D

This was interesting. Not as good as her contemporary stuff. The world building was kind of wacky and not thought through. And the characters (especially Ali) were annoying. They read either one-dementional or whining. -- I do like her writing style, though.

I was lucky enough to be a beta for this ^__^ I will always have a weakness for shifter stories, and misfit family type stories. This combines both, what's not to love? It was a lot of fun to read, I'm sure the final version is even better! :D
