***reread this is such a good story, love Mel he is conflicted as a soiled rock star trying to dig his way out. Meeting Ashley who is blind and doesn't judge him turns into a beautiful love story.

He’s so tired of this life, sick of his songs, sick of people wanting him for his fame and money, sick of abusing his body. Waking up to a girl half his age, and all the disgust he feels at what his life has become, moves him to make a change. He cleans up his life, changes his appearance, and moves into a beach house he bought in his real name. He plans on taking time off anonymously, and getting back to his love of music in peace and quiet. His plans come to an abrupt halt when he pulls into his garage, and finds the guesthouse on the property is occupied, not knowing the property was divided and sold separately. At first, Mel goes into a panic but then quickly finds out that his neighbor, Ashley is blind and her assistant has no idea who he is, and he relaxes a bit.

Soon Mel’s running into Ashley on the beach and can’t help but be drawn to her easy carefree attitude and wicked sense of humor. Ashley is beautiful on the outside but it’s the insides that make her truly stunning to Mel, and he can’t help falling for hard for her.

Ashley is happy to find out her new neighbor is a solitary man, and the tranquility of the beautiful location won’t be ruined. She doesn’t plan on getting close to him, but they keep running into each other. Mel makes her laugh, and they talk for hours, getting closer day by day. Soon she’s relying on his company, and a growing attraction intensifies, but she doesn’t want to fall for him because she’s “damaged goods,” and how could he want her?

Little do they know in the middle of their growing feelings, danger is lurking in the form of a stalker. Mel’s number one fan has found out where he lives, and inserts herself into Ashley’s life when her assistant “mysteriously” disappears. She’s obsessed with Mel and isn’t afraid to take down anything or anyone in her way. This woman was beyond psycho, and I cringed while reading every scene she was in! *shivers*

Oh, I just fell in love with these characters! Even in the face of her depressing circumstances, Ashley managed to have a positive attitude and was a caring person. I also appreciated that Mel’s change came from his own disgust at his way of life before he even met Ashley, and not because he found “the perfect woman.” It made it so much more believable. I loved reading about the slow building attraction between Ash and Mel. Their romance was built on friendship first, so when they fell for each other is was so satisfying. I must warn that the spice in this story doesn’t happen until you reach about 60% but its well worth the wait! The scenes were HOT and well-done! One of my favorite quotes:

“What are you doing? What are you waiting for?”

“You. I’m waiting for you, Ash. I want all of you online and working. I want to feel the heat come off your skin and I want you so hot for me that you can’t think straight.”

While this story is part of a series, it’s not necessary to read the others to enjoy this, but I will be checking out the other books now that I enjoyed this one so much. This story had everything I wanted: mystery, good plot, deliciously steamy scenes, and an amazing romance.

This is the third instalment in the Adrenaline Highs Series. I’d not read the first two but this one works perfectly well as a stand alone novel.

Famous rock musician hero, how could I resist? This was a bit out of norm as it's not a contemporary, but a romantic suspense. The hero's occupation as a rock star was almost incidental. He could have just as easily been an actor or a writer and, with a few minor alterations, the story wouldn't have really been affected.

There were two things that made this book stand out for me. One, the Big Bad was clearly delineated and also very bat-shit crazy. Adams switched occasionally to the Big Bad's POV and the reader got to watch as the villain spiraled deeper into insanity. What was interesting to me is that the Big Bad started off very clever, but the crazier they got, the more mistakes they started to make. I thought that was a fairly realistic de-evolution. The other unique-ish part was how Adams handled the heroine's blindness. The role the blindness played in the book was fairly cliched, but the way the heroine approached her disability was not. She didn't flail about and cry 'woe is me,' or stubbornly live like always, firmly in denial. No, she basically said, 'I really, really hope this isn't permanent, but, in the meantime, I have to be able to live my life.' She hired a companion to teach her how to cope, started to learn braille, and tried like hell to adapt to her new limitations. I had a great deal of respect for her.

I didn't like the hero as much, but I think that stemmed more from personal preference than flaws with the characterization. He came off a little wishy-washy to me, but not every male is going to be an alpha male and sometimes you're gonna get a hero who doesn't like confrontation. Different strokes for different folks, etc.

Dangerously Close worked really well as a stand-alone. I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, having snagged this one from NetGalley. There is some minor references back to the second book, Danger Zone, but I was able to follow along very easily. I definitely recommend this if you're looking for a light romantic suspense for vacation this summer.(less)

Dee J. Adams is my newest "must read" author! I have read all three of her books so far: Dangerous Race, Danger Zone, and now Dangerously Close, and I must say that I have enjoyed all three equally. I guess I thought that since they are all part of her Adrenaline Highs series, that they would all be about racing, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that only the first one is. I wasn't completely sold on this book at first, but it definitely grew on me! I love the rocker bad-boys, so Mel was bound to turn me his way at some point! Adams whipped up a suspenseful, sweet, sexy story that caught my attention and then ended up with a death grip on me as everything wrapped up.

I loved Adams' multi-dimensional characters, even though I wanted one of them to be dragged across hot coals by her hair *ahem...PAULA*. Mel was cocky in an irritating man-whore way at first, but I lo...more I wasn't completely sold on this book at first, but it definitely grew on me! Mel was cocky in an irritating man-whore way at first, but I love how Ashley's awesome personality brought out his sweet gentlemanly side...and his sexy "I must have you now!" side!! Their neighborly interactions slowly turned into such a caring friendship, and I really liked how their slightly flirty banter allowed them to have that tiny spark waiting. I was worried at first, because halfway through the book there wasn't really much in the way of a physical relationship between them, but WOW Adams went from 0-80 with these two (YES, keep reading even if you're tiring of the "let's just be friends" bit, because it's DEFINITELY worth it!)! And I loved the plot twist that made it all happen, too; Mel's protective, nurturing side flowed smoothly into a desire that he just couldn't stop no matter how much he worried how it would affect their friendship. It was AWESOME!!! And it didn't stop there, because once Mel had a taste, it was all downhill for his willpower! WHEW!!

A lot of this story was the thriller/suspense aspect to the plot, based around Mel/Seger's psychotic stalker Paula who takes advantage of Ashley's need for an assistant while she coped with her blindness. This woman made my skin crawl; think "Hand that Rocks the Cradle" or "Single White Female" crazy bitch! Her actions were sickening and completely whacked, and she was just the perfect villain. I hated her, but Adams made one hell of an antagonist!!

Overall, this was a well-developed story with lots of suspense and great characters, and it grew into a steamy, heartwarming love story that I really enjoyed! 4.5 stars and a definite recommend!(less)

But someone recognizes who Mel really is and she’s be waiting her whole life to be Mrs. Seger Hughes and she’s not going to let Ashley or anyone else get in her way, no matter what she has to do.

Sometimes you pick up an unknown book and it sounds really good, but you’re so afraid in the end you will be disappointed. I was delighted that I requested a copy of Dangerously Close. This was one of those stories you just couldn’t put down. Usually the review copies of ebooks are only temporary loans but for whatever reason, this one isn’t and I am quite glad because this one is definitely a keeper that I will want to read again. This was one of those stories you can’t wait to see how it ends, but you are sorry when it is finally over.

Even though you know who the stalker is and you watch her wedge herself into Ashley and Mel’s lives (and she is as dangerous as she is Crazy with a capital “C”), it is such an intriguing story, and the romance which grows between Mel and Ashley was so delightful. You see the character of Mel grow and change from the selfish rock star to a generous friend and lover and after years of disappointment in his dream, you feel his joy in spending time with Ashley who is so fun and open and who tries very hard to overcome her handicap. His relationship with Ashley not only gives Mel a new leash on life, but breathes new life into his music, which he will come to love once again.

If you are love a good contemporary romance, definitely treat yourself to a copy of Dangerously Close. This is the third book in the Adrenaline Highs series, and I am definitely going to be keeping my eyes open for more by Dee J Adams.

Seger/Mel is a sigh worthy leading man with his wish to regroup and regain his sense of self. He has had an extremely eye opening moment and is taking some time at a home his fans don't know about to regroup. He goes thru a lot in this book as he not only falls in love but also regains his love for music and life in general.

I wish I could say I was disappointed, but I’m really not. I got what I expected to get after reading the first chapter:

I really enjoyed this book! The plot kept me glued to the book and I couldn't put it down until it was finished.

My favorite romantic suspense novel by Dee J. Adams! Dangerously Close explores the loving relationship that blossoms between Mel, a rock star in hiding, and his neighbor Ashley, an emotionally and physically scarred woman who suddenly loses her sight. Besides overcoming their own self-made relationship roadblocks, the couple must also combat the destructive jealousy of Mel's psychopathic fan.

*sigh* I just love books like this, that pull me in and don't let go until the final page...and then I just want to start over and read it again. If you can't tell, I liked this one!!

Unlike the other two books in this series, this book did not revolve around the race track. No, this book takes place in Malibu and instead has a rock star, Seger, who's completely burned out and more than a little jaded. Unlike the other two books in this series, this book did not revolve around the race track. No, this book takes place in Malibu and instead has a rock star, Seger, who's completely burned out and more than a little jaded. He's escaped to Malibu under his real name and is hiding in his mansion that he just recently bought. What he doesn't realize is that his mansion was such a good deal because they split up the property of the mansion from the guest house and sold them separately. He's not thrilled to find his seclusion isn't going to be quite so alone when he discovers Ashley living on the property. The good news is that Ashley is blind so she can't see who he is and his secret hiding place is safe from the paparazzi.

We met Ashley in one of the other books (I can't remember which) when scaffolding collapsed on top of her and almost killed her. She was in a coma for a few months. That was two years ago and she still hasn't recovered from the physical or emotional trauma of that. She's spent the last year completely unlike the outgoing party girl she used to be. She's just not the same person that she was before the accident. So when she falls and ends up suddenly blind on top of everything else, it's more than a little devastating. You can't help but feel sorry for her. Seriously, how much can one person take?

It's been just a couple of weeks since the accident that left her blind when Mel moves in. He's really not happy to have her there, but as he gets to know her and her incredible sense of wit and humor, he can't help but to like her. They develop a friendship...which they both desperately need. These are two very lonely people and they are so good together. I love that they developed such an amazing friendship before it moved anywhere close to romance. This romance moved really slow, but I loved every minute of reading it. They have a fantastic repertoire between the two of them and every time they are together the fun dialogue just jumps off the page.

This was just a good book. The characters were really likable and well-developed. I liked every bit of the story line. You get to see life for Seger as a rocker and how bad it's gotten, and you get a feel that Mel was a bit like him before her accident. They both have somewhat wild pasts, but they're becoming different people. I liked that they had that similarity...you know they aren't going to someday get bored with each other. They are a good fit.

Then there's the suspense story line. You know who the bad guy is from the very beginning, but still the suspense was fabulous. She is absolutely crazy and you just never knew where her character was going to go next.

Overall, it was just an AMAZING addition to this series. Definitely one going into my re-read pile. I don't know what Dee J. Adams has up next, but I sincerely hope there's going to be more of these!

Storyline/Plot
Generally speaking I liked the plot, it was interesting and there was a nice blend of suspense and romance. The big problem was the beginning; it just seemed to be full of useless information. I didn’t need to know in detail how Ashley became blind, got a dog and a live in helper. I just needed to know she was blind, had a dog and a live in helper. I could have done with a few paragraph explaining these things not 4 chapters. Other than that it was good. I did think that maybe Ashley had been through a lot of unnecessary stuff in her life but all in all it was fine.

Writing
Like so many of these types of books the narrative jumps around a lot, it settles to three characters and that worked well. I liked the way Adams wrote Ashley’s blindness, she didn’t slip up once but also didn’t mention Ashley’s blindness constantly.

Characters
At first I thought Ashley was terrible because she had all those boring chapters. She dramatically improves when Mel comes along because we are able to really see her personality. She has been through a lot but has a wicked sense of humour. I never once thought of her as weak, even when she was at her lowest and feeling self-conscious she had strength which I really admired. In the beginning there is not much to like about Mel, he is just another spoilt rock star that has gone off the rails. Yet, he manages to slowly but surely redeem himself and he turned into a likable guy. Is he perfect? No, but that’s how I prefer my male leads.

Romance
What I loved about this book was the way the romance grew. There was no insta-love, instead the characters first respected each other, then formed a friendship. What I loved was the way they talked about their friendship when they became lovers. They didn’t just fall into bed overcome with lust. They took their time and that made the romance better. The sex was intense and well written, I enjoyed it but I would have liked to have seen Adams utilise Ashley’s blindness a little more. There is something so sensual about not seeing but feeling.

Dangerously Close is a nice romantic thriller that I enjoyed…if you discount the first 4 chapters that is.(less)

I have to say I didn't really go into this book expecting much..but wow i really loved it, the characters, the drama, the sex ;). I just loved it from start to finish, i never got bored! which can really put me off even finishing a book at times. I've read the first book in this series but i skipped the second one, after reading this I think I'm going to have to go back and read it just so I can read more from this author!

If you love bad boy rockstars who are looking for redemption so to speak.....more

This was one of those books that grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go until I'd finished it. From bad boy Seger's meltdown in a hotel room, to almost-but-not-quite-blind Ashley's dance with a bee on the staircase leading up to her home, I knew I was in for quite a ride - and I got it.

I loved this book, it made me want to read more romantic suspense/thrillers! Although this is the third book in the Adrenaline Highs series, you could easily read it as a stand-alone.

That being said, this might be my favorite book in this series. Yes, that might have something to do with the fact that there is a hot rockstar hero, and you know I'm a sucker for rockstars. But I think the whole package of this story worked.

The third thing I want to point out is that the author must really have a bone to pick with Ashley Bristol. Ashley is the heroine of this book. We met her in book two of this series as the best friend of that book's heroine and then she almost got killed in a scaffolding accident intended to kill Quinn. She survives that and then at the beginning of this book she has another mishap that leaves her blind. Yes, for 90% of this book, maybe more, she was blind. And there are a few more attempts on her life in this book. Ashley is officially the cat with 9 lives! And through all that she is cheerful and happy and positive! I loved her attitude and her outlook on life. How she faced things as they were presented and was able to meet new people and make friendships and connections, even though she couldn't see what those people looked like.

So now that I've told you how awesome Ashley is, lets talk about Mel/Seger. As I mentioned before, a rockstar. A rockstar that maybe has been in the business too long, jaded. He's taking a "vacation" at one of his properties and pretending NOT to be himself. He doesn't want to be Seger the rockstar but Mel the man. When his sexy neighbor turns out to be blind and doesn't know who he is he finds he can be his true self with her.

Mel and Ashley were really a great couple. One of those couples that are fun and loving, that you just want to hang out with and wish for their happy ever after. Except for the fact that Mel doesn't tell Ashley who he is and lives a "lie" with her. When her biggest dislike is liars. Then there is the minor obstacle of an obsessed girl/stalker/fangirl. Paula is creepy. No other way around that.

I think this story was great It was light and sweet with a dash of danger. I was rooting for Ashley and Mel the whole time and I think their coming together as a couple was perfectly timed and believable. I am now very curious to see where this series will go since I wasn't expecting this story to turn out the way it did.

Why I Read this Book: I have enjoyed reading this series from the start and I will continue to read each book in this series as long as the author continues it on.

I'm a huge fan of Rock and Roll books - so when I saw this on Netgalley, I jumped at the chance to get it - I didn't realize it was the 3rd book to a series -
I'm anxious to read the first two books now, if they're anywhere as good as this one, it will be worth it :)

So, this is my first Dee Adams book and I must say that I loved it.

Contemporary romance with a hint of suspense. I don't come across a blind heroine much but I must say that I really liked Ashley's character. It was a well developed relationship and I'll always prefer Mel to Seger.

Ashley is just a laugh thru out the whole book - she is strong and doesnt let anything get her down despite her eyes.

A lot to like in this book. It has a slow evolving romance which I loved. While I did believe that the two belonged together , I felt their coupling lacked chemistry on page.
