To sum it up: Bad-boy rock star Seger Hughes hit rock bottom after a near-fatal tragedy at his concert. He hates how his life has spun out of control. After changing his appearance and his name, he transforms into a different man: Mel Summers. Now he just needs a place to hide out from rabid fans and paparazzi.

An isolated cliffside mansion is perfect. Ashley Bristol, his only neighbor, is blind—and her assistant is a classical music fan. They have no clue who he really is, but someone else does...more

Ashley is almost finished renovating her dream house overlooking a beautiful California ocean. Two years ago Ashley was in accident that left her in a coma for two months, so the renovations have served as a form of therapy for her. While visiting with her best friend, on the beach, Ashley feels a migraine coming on and makes a retreat to the house. One minute she’s falling backwards on the steps, the next she’s waking up in the hospital without her sight. Facing the possibility that this might...more

This is the third instalment in the Adrenaline Highs Series. I’d not read the first two but this one works perfectly well as a stand alone novel.

Seger Hughes is a rock star teetering on the edge of total burnout. He’s been partying too hard, drinking too hard and sleeping with ever younger groupies. He’s adored by millions but they see only the rock star, not the man inside and, despite their constant attention, he is deeply lonely. After waking up one morning with a barely legal groupie and a p...more

The third book in Dee J. Adams Adrenaline Highs series (after Dangerous Race and Danger Zone) offers close but not quite as many romantic suspense chills and thrills and its two predecessors.
Dangerously Close is a story about two people who are hiding, from themselves, from their past, from each other. And, because they are running away from who they really are, they tell themselves lies. Maintaining those lies means they tell them to each other. It's those lies that trip them up when they fall...more

Famous rock musician hero, how could I resist? This was a bit out of norm as it's not a contemporary, but a romantic suspense. The hero's occupation as a rock star was almost incidental. He could have just as easily been an actor or a writer and, with a few minor alterations, the story wouldn't have really been affected.

There were two things that made this book stand out for me. One, the Big Bad was clearly delineated and also very bat-shit crazy. Adams switched occasionally to the Big Bad's PO...more

Dee J. Adams is my newest "must read" author! I have read all three of her books so far: Dangerous Race, Danger Zone, and now Dangerously Close, and I must say that I have enjoyed all three equally. I guess I thought that since they are all part of her Adrenaline Highs series, that they would all be about racing, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that only the first one is. Danger Zone is all about Hollywood movie-making, and now Dangerously Close concentrates more on the behind the sce...more

I wasn't completely sold on this book at first, but it definitely grew on me! I love the rocker bad-boys, so Mel was bound to turn me his way at some point! Adams whipped up a suspenseful, sweet, sexy story that caught my attention and then ended up with a death grip on me as everything wrapped up.

I loved Adams' multi-dimensional characters, even though I wanted one of them to be dragged across hot coals by her hair *ahem...PAULA*. Mel was cocky in an irritating man-whore way at first, but I lo...more

This book tell the story of Ashley and Seger or "Mel" in their hideout place, hiding away from their past. Ashley who was involved in an accident, decided to move to a guesthouse to recuperate while Seger running away to find his true self back. What they wanted was to have a quiet life and to deal with their life when they are ready. Fate seem to put them together when Seger turned out to be the owner of the mansion where Ashley's guesthouse is. Seger who wanted his presence remained anonymous...more

I can't remember just how I found this book but boy am I glad I did. I really love the whole rock star romance thing so this was an excellent find. The beginning started a little slow but was still good enough to keep me interested in the story. Once the H&h met I was hooked. This story took it's time and the H&h really got to know each other before and real sexual tension star...more

What if your dreams came true and one day you realized you didn’t want it anymore? Mel Summers, better known by his stage name Seger Hughes, had it all: fame, fortune, booze, drugs, women…everything he ever dreamed of, but after 20 years, he has had enough of it. He couldn’t remember what city he was in, he didn’t remember the women and he no longer even enjoyed his music. So, he cut his long, blonde hair, grew a beard and went to hide away in the beach house he bought under his real name, away...more

i enjoyed this book even with the roll the eyes moments with the baddie of this...

Seger/Mel is a sigh worthy leading man with his wish to regroup and regain his sense of self. He has had an extremely eye opening moment and is taking some time at a home his fans don't know about to regroup. He goes thru a lot in this book as he not only falls in love but also regains his love for music and life in general.

Ashley is a good match for the man Mel truly is. She has had a lot of things thrown at her i...more

Rockin' the Adrenaline High

Rock 'n Roll icon Seger Hughes has been a very, very bad boy. Stumbling, sexing, and boozing his way through a brutal world tour, he's lucky if he can remember the lyrics to his songs when he's on stage. He sure can't remember the name of the barely legal girl he banged after a recent show.

He's burned out, and so disgusted with himself he can hardly meet his own eyes in the mirror. The love of music that once drove him like a demon is silent in his chest...more

A little mystery, a little rock and roll and a wonderful romance.
Rocker Seger Hughes has fallen prey to the rock and roll lifestyle. When he wakes up after a show in Boise, Idaho with a girl just turned 18 in his bed and the hangover from hell he takes it as a wakeup call to rethink his life. To that end he cleans up his act for the rest of his tour and arranges to take some time off. He moves into one of his investment properties in L.A. for some peace, quiet, and introspection. He didn’t coun...more

I wish I could say I was disappointed, but I’m really not. I got what I expected to get after reading the first chapter:

A bunch of deus ex machinas tied together and with a nice bow on top starting with Ashley’s blindness.

I was positively surprised that Adams at least appeared to have done her research into blindness. There were two institutions mentioned and the way Ashley and her assistant, Lizzie, behaved rang true to me. Stil...more

I really enjoyed this book! The plot kept me glued to the book and I couldn't put it down until it was finished.

Seger Hughes is living the life of a top rock and roll star, in fact he is living it a little to much. So when he wakes up one morning once again with a hangover and beside a strange woman he doesn't recognise the man he has become. He decides to change his appearance and live in a house he bought with his real name to try and escape the media, what he doesn't realise is that he has a...more

I first heard about this series months ago. The first book is on my TBR list, but I have yet to read it. When I saw that this one was on Netgalley, I just knew I had to request it, and thankfully, I got approved. If I hadn't, I have no idea when I would have gotten to this series. Even though it is on my TBR list, it is on there with hundreds of other books (666 other books, to be more precise).

In the beginning of the story, Mel wasn't really...more

My favorite romantic suspense novel by Dee J. Adams! Dangerously Close explores the loving relationship that blossoms between Mel, a rock star in hiding, and his neighbor Ashley, an emotionally and physically scarred woman who suddenly loses her sight. Besides overcoming their own self-made relationship roadblocks, the couple must also combat the destructive jealousy of Mel's psychopathic fan.

A satisfying read. Super steamy! Mel and Ashley are wonderfully likable. And, the villain, Paula, is on...more

My Review:

*sigh* I just love books like this, that pull me in and don't let go until the final page...and then I just want to start over and read it again. If you can't tell, I liked this one!!

Unlike the other two books in this series, this book did not revolve around the race track. No, this book takes place in Malibu and instead has a rock star, Seger, who's completely burned out and more than a little jaded. He's escaped to Malibu under his real name and is hiding in his mansion that he just...more

Dangerously close was what I call a grower. For the first 4 or 5 chapters I wondered how the hell I would get through the whole book. After that it dramatically improved. It grew on me.

Storyline/Plot
Generally speaking I liked the plot, it was interesting and there was a nice blend of suspense and romance. The big problem was the beginning; it just seemed to be full of useless informati...more

I have to say I didn't really go into this book expecting much..but wow i really loved it, the characters, the drama, the sex ;). I just loved it from start to finish, i never got bored! which can really put me off even finishing a book at times. I've read the first book in this series but i skipped the second one, after reading this I think I'm going to have to go back and read it just so I can read more from this author!

If you love bad boy rockstars who are looking for redemption so to speak.....more

This was one of those books that grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go until I'd finished it. From bad boy Seger's meltdown in a hotel room, to almost-but-not-quite-blind Ashley's dance with a bee on the staircase leading up to her home, I knew I was in for quite a ride - and I got it.

When Seger, who has buffed his body and cleaned up his act AND changed his name to Mel, moves in next door to Ashley who is now pretty much fully blind, you are primed and prepped to root for these two. And bo...more

I loved this book, it made me want to read more romantic suspense/thrillers! Although this is the third book in the Adrenaline Highs series, you could easily read it as a stand-alone.

Ashley, the heroine, has been going through a tough time the last couple of years. After two separate accidents, she is almost completely blind and has no idea if she'll ever get her eyesight back. Even though she is scared to death inside, she puts on a brave face for others and uses humor to get through it all. I...more

The first I want to point out is that this book was different from the rest of the series. Of course the first point is that in no way is it related to race car driving. The second point is that there suspense part of this book was a lot less than in previous stories. So for that I've decided to label this more of a contemporary romance instead of a romantic suspense, the suspense was just a dash on top.

That being said, this might be my favorite book in...more

Why I Read this Book: I have enjoyed reading this series from the start and I will continue to read each book in this series as long as the author continues it on.

What I Liked: I honestly thought I was going to have a hard time with this book for the simple fact that, at first, I did not like the hero. If you don’t like the hero, what’s the point of reading a romance starring him, right? Everything about Seger rubbed me the wrong way. He’s a famous rock star who’s the epitome of ‘sex, drugs, an...more

I'm a huge fan of Rock and Roll books - so when I saw this on Netgalley, I jumped at the chance to get it - I didn't realize it was the 3rd book to a series -
I'm anxious to read the first two books now, if they're anywhere as good as this one, it will be worth it :)

More of my review closer to the release date :)

So, this is my first Dee Adams book and I must say that I loved it.

Contemporary romance with a hint of suspense. I don't come across a blind heroine much but I must say that I really liked Ashley's character. It was a well developed relationship and I'll always prefer Mel to Seger.

One hot rocker plus one talented outspoken woman plus one crazed stalker/fan and of course one adorable puppy and what do you have.....a great read!!

Ashley is just a laugh thru out the whole book - she is strong and doesnt let anything get her down despite her eyes.

A lot to like in this book. It has a slow evolving romance which I loved. While I did believe that the two belonged together , I felt their coupling lacked chemistry on page.

Dee J. was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. After graduating high school, she moved to Los Angeles and did what most people do in L.A. Tried to make it in show biz. She did okay. Got enough acting work to pay the rent and keep the S.A.G. card. (Screen Actors Guild in case anyone is wondering.) She also worked as a Dialogue Coach in sitcoms. (That's code for acting coach and also means she helped...more
