When I saw the three books about dinosaurs and sports by Lisa Wheeler with illustrations by Barry Gott, I could not resist but grab all three. This is another picture book that depicts the carnivores playing against the herbivores for the Mega Bowl, or what we call the Super Bowl. The rhyming pattern is thoughtfully done to tie in the football theme. The illustrations are once again full of color and are rich in detail which makes you stop and stare at the pictures on each page. One thing that I...more

This picture book has bright, bold illustrations and I know the pictures would be favorites of my students who LOVE their dinosaur stories. The idea of dinosaurs playing football is an engaging concept. Children love sports, playing football and the competition. This rhyming book is not easy to read, nor is it the type of book that would appeal to students who could read the text independently. There are some confusing names in the book because Lisa Wheeler shortened many of the dinosaur names t...more

I recently received an ARC of this book and read it with my 5 year old son.

His thoughts:
1. He loved the pictures. They were bright and full of action and kept his interest throughout.
2. He loved the competition aspect of the story. He picked a favorite team and rooted for them through the entire story just as if he were watching a real football game on tv.
3. This book made him feel like he had something in common with his dad who loves football.

My thoughts:
1. I agree that the illustrations...more

I'm not a fan of Lisa Wheeler's Dino-Sports books, I just tolerate them as the kids get a kick out of the different teams of creatures doing every day sports. Dino-Football however, really captivated me. The action felt non-stop. I was tickled by how she kept the rhyming going, and it even felt like the difficulty of the rhymes matched the pace of the action.

"Mega Bowl Sunday is finally here!"

Pros: I really enjoyed reading the cleaver prose aloud in a big announcer voice. Cons: The illustrations got kind of busy. I feel for the illustrator though, it was the Lava Dome after all. The end was FANTASTIC! I won't spoil it but I laughed out loud.

I generally enjoy these "Dino-____" books by Lisa Wheeler, but this one disappoints. The rhymes do not rhyme! Some examples: end and ten-close but no. Steady and twenty--nope. Quarterback and Snapped---try again. I didn't even finish the book.

This book has great illustrations and the words have beautiful rhythm but it's too technical for Kyson- he says he liked it but he got kind of bored in the middle since he doesn't really understand football plays etc...

Another great dinosaur sport book by Lisa Wheeler! In this one the dinosaurs play football. With wonderful rhyming text, vivid illustrations, and great dinosaur references this book will be one that kids will adore!

A surprise gift arrived in the mail this afternoon for my son--Dino Football-- sent to him by the author herself. What a wonderful gift!

Thank, Lisa! You're great!

a little bit hard to read because of the vocabulary. Rhymes. Very bright pictures. Great for a kid who enjoys dinos and football.
Rachel
Great rhymes for dinosaur and football fans, wish the whole names of the dinosaurs were used in the texts instead of shortened forms.
Julie
My son picked 5 stars because he loved this book. He has many favorite parts of the book, but loves the last page most.

Colorful illustrations of dinosaurs combined with the game of football will make this a popular book for young readers.
Lisa
This is the newest in my Dino-Sport series. Enter the Lava Dome where the Greenblade Snackers play the Redscales!
Lizzie
Combining two engaging concepts (sports+dinosaurs)creates some witty moments, but the rhymes are little off.
Joenna
Plant-eating dinosaurs face meat-eating dinosaurs in a football game at the Lava Dome on Mega Bowl Sunday.
Beverly
Funny; the dinosaur version of the super bowl, with the Greenblade Snackers vs the Redscales.

Corbchops says: "It was funny, because T-rex eats those dinosaurs, but he didn't."
Julia Jasztal
I liked this book because the pictures were cool.
Edward Sullivan
Merging two popular subjects into a fun, lively story.
