When I saw the three books about dinosaurs and sports by Lisa Wheeler with illustrations by Barry Gott, I could not resist but grab all three. This is another picture book that depicts the carnivores playing against the herbivores for the Mega Bowl, or what we call the Super Bowl. The rhyming pattern is thoughtfully done to tie in the football theme. The illustrations are once again full of color and are rich in detail which makes you stop and stare at the pictures on each page. One thing that I...more
This picture book has bright, bold illustrations and I know the pictures would be favorites of my students who LOVE their dinosaur stories. The idea of dinosaurs playing football is an engaging concept. Children love sports, playing football and the competition. This rhyming book is not easy to read, nor is it the type of book that would appeal to students who could read the text independently. I'm not a fan of Lisa Wheeler's Dino-Sports books, I just tolerate them as the kids get a kick out of the different teams of creatures doing every day sports. Dino-Football however, really captivated me. The action felt non-stop. I was tickled by how she kept the rhyming going, and it even felt like the difficulty of the rhymes matched the pace of the action.
