But for the eight to ten million American Christian women who have had one, abortion is a spiritual issue as well, raising questions of life and death, heaven and hell, grief and loss. Having never been faced with a situation in which abortion was one of my options I wasn’t sure about reading this book. I didn’t think I’d be able to relate, but I thought of the people in my life I know who have faced that decision and figured if I could find a book that might help my friends and family deal with what they may still be going through then I would like to read it and be able to let them know about a resource is available. While I couldn’t specifically relate to what Ketola was de...more

I will say up front that although I was glad to be able to be a part of this tour, I have never had an abortion. To some, this may disqualify anything I have to say about the matter beyond this point. I would ask you to hear me out. Although I have never had a deliberate abortion, I have had to bear the loss of a child that would have been. In my opinion, many of the thoughts and feelings between those who have had abortions and miscarriages are shared. While it may not be on the same level in s...more

The angst that follows an abortion is seldom, if ever, addressed at the abortion clinic or in the news. Though I’ve not had an abortion, I do know women who have, and the guilt and shame are sometimes overwhelming. Some drown it in work, alcohol, or drugs, while others suffer with depression and/or anxiety.

Kim Ketola, the author of Cradle My Heart, has had an abortion. She shares her life transparently in hopes of helping other women who’ve had an abortion get the healing she has received. She a...more

Let me preface this review by saying I have never had an abortion, and I only have known someone minimally who did. She never talked much about it. Abortion is something I feel very strongly about. I am completely against it under any circumstances. And I suppose that because I feel this way, I would not be the best one to counsel or speak with one who has had an abortion.

This book does what I could never do--speak to those who have had abortion with mercy, grace, and love. The author herself sp...more

I’ve never had an abortion but my heart aches for those who are murdered every day and those moms who will never hold their babies. I was thinking I might read that the author would try to claim that abortion isn’t sinful however I was happy, in the fact, that she does acknowledge that abortion is murder and it is a sin. Like all sin, it’s something we need to repent of when we’ve taken part in it – even if you’ve had several abortions. I will never understand the thought process behind a woman...more

Kim Ketola addresses women who’ve made the impossible decision to abort a child. The book first asks if the reader is searching their hearts and minds trying to heal. The end of the introduction is heartening to readers. She reminds us that we can entrust our hearts to Jesus; we can’t “hide” our thoughts or faults from Him. Quoting John 6:37 and Heb 13:5, she comforts us with words showing God’s eternal care for those who turn to Him.
Ketola offers 3 “tools” at chapter ends to help the healing p...more

I found this book to be a compelling read. I kept finding "a sin, is a sin"...God doesn't place one sin above the other...we do.
A very comforting book for someone in the remorseful pain of having had an abortion. Finding forgiveness, and forgiving oneself, an especially hard thing to do.
Cradle My Heart offers so much, there are so many wonderful uses of scripture to fit, and ways to minister to those in pain. I am going to offer my book to my Pastor so that he can share it with someone in need.

Kim Ketola weaves her story in with a step-by-step process to find true healing after abortion.

She begins with a questions, “Do you want to be well?” Sometimes grief can be the only reminder of a life lost, and those who have had abortions tightly hold on to it. Kim will help women release this grip, and encourage them to find other ways to memorialize their baby.
