“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.” (I Peter 3:15-16)

Apologetics is often a misused and misunderstood term leading some to honestly believe the idea revolves around the need to apologize with others on the op

How would you answer the following questions about your faith:

Why do you believe in God?

What are your reasons for thinking God is real and that the Bible is a reliable text inspired by God?

"In his first letter to the Corinthians, the apostle Paul says that if it is not absolutely true that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, then our faith in God is useless and we are giving false testimony (1 Corinthians 15:14-15). This is why we must be brutally honest with ourselves about what we believe a

When a book steers my soul so deeply I am very much aware that most likely it is the Holy Spirit that is teaching me something through it. It has proven to be true once again in this case!

The title of the book is “Apologetics in Women’s Ministry” – Defending the Faith.

Since I am deaconess in my church for the woman’s ministry and I do teach myself, this book had me stop and take into question some things. From the first page I was hooked at what Mary Jo Sharp was saying, because it is the bases

Title: Defending the Faith (Apologetics in Women’s Ministry)
Author: Mary Jo Sharp
Pages: 144
Year: 2012
Publisher: Kregel Ministry
There are times when I am not quite sure why I decide to read a particular book whether it is fiction or nonfiction. One of the reasons I wanted to at least look into this book though was because it has to do with apologetics, which I love to read, as well as the challenge it brings in my walk with the Lord. I know, too, that there is always room to learn more, to be be

Common sense dictates that a person of faith – any faith – know what they believe, and why. For Christians, however, this supposition extends far beyond human reason. God Himself – through the Bible – gave us the following exhortation in 1 Peter 3:15:

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…

So, I’d like to ask – if you are a Christian – have you ever really taken the time to study your f

Defending the Faith is a challenge from Mary Jo Sharp for you and me personally -- “You are the Christian warriors who are missing-in-action on the battlefield of ideology” (pg. 16)

...but also specifically for the women’ ministries in the church, the body of Christ -- “In this book, I am prosing a new approach to women’s ministries that addresses the basic need of women to know the truth about God and thus to trust Him: the study of apologetics specifically for women so that they can learn the t

I think teaching Apologetics is something that isn’t as prevalent in churches as it used to be so I was really interested to read what Sharp had to say in Defending the Faith.

Sharp goes into depth about her own personal experiences in women’s ministry and how she came to the conclusion that a book like this was necessary, specifically written for women.

What I liked about Sharp’s writing is that she challenged women to go beyond believing what they always have just because it’s what they’d been t

It's a much needed it book to show that Apologetics (defense of the faith) is not just for men. She is spot on when she assesses current women ministries that focus on social events that don't prepare them to articulate the faith. She makes the case of how important women are, especially as moms who are training the next generation. Moms have a huge influence on children and so the more prepared they are in defending, explaining, articulating their faith to children and others, the more ready ...more

This is not exactly what I was expecting from the title. You will not learn how to defend your faith in this book. You will learn how important it is to do so. She does include suggested studies for women's groups, books and DVD presentations. Every women's ministry leader needs to read this book. If you are not a leader, you can still get great ideas as to how to encourage apologetic studies to be incorporated in your church.

I had the privilege of attending a conference where Mary Jo Sharp was the speaker. As Christians we should know what we believe and why. After reading this book I'll be looking into more books on Apologetics and to write down what I believe and why. This is a great book to start with and will really open your eyes to just how important it is to know why we believe what we do.
