I can't quite put my finger on why but A Younger Man couldn't and didn't even come close to matching the brilliance of Grey's Awakening and that's the issue for me, I was expecting too much and that obviously was a big mistake. Is it fair of me to compare? I'm torn because this was a surprise, I had high hopes but ended up with a family orientated story that didn't fit the picture I had conjured up in my mind. I didn’t read book 1 from this series, since I discovered M/M books, those are the only stories I read.
Book 2 wasn't bad, although, I could not tell you much about it, that's how memorable it was.
So, if you asked me about this story, I can assure you this will be on my mind for a long time. Noah and Zane are such a great characters.
Not very fond of a huge age gap, however, the author did such a great job about Zane's character, I didn't even notice how young he was.

I do not like this book, and I love Cameron Danes work...What has be going on with my favorite writer?

"Cuz, the last book did really work for me and this book the plot...did not work for me...and the writing has been, well different, not Cameron Dane's norm...

I just don't even know where to start with what I loved about this fantastic book. First off I am a Cameron Dane *squee* fan-girl. To be honest I haven't met a Dane book I didn't like and I certainly was not disappointed here.

Noah is, I believe, 42 and has recently ended his long time marriage by coming out as gay. He maintains a close, friendly relationship with his ex-wife and adores his two teen sons. Noah is, I believe, 42 and has recently ended his long time marriage by coming out as gay. He maintains a close, friendly relationship with his ex-wife and adores his two teen sons. This character is amazingly mature, settled and knows exactly what he wants. What is at the top of his list right now is a loving, committed relationship with a man who is at the same point in his own life. However Noah has a problem. He has never dated nor been intimate with another man. After years of marriage to the only other person he has ever had a romantic relationship with he is at a total loss as to where to start.

He is amazingly appealing on many levels - hard working, honest with both himself and his family, loyal, protective, generous and he wants so badly to be in love. Coming out was hard on him, while most people were accepting his beloved father is now distant and cold. It's breaking Noah (and my) heart.

Taking the advice of his 19-year old son to actually get out there and LIVE Noah starts going on dates. He grows increasingly frustrated at his lack of interest in any of these men.

Zane is 24 and has sole responsibility for his two young siblings. Before that he was sole caretaker of his ill step-father. His step-father's sister is trying to take the children away, against the dying wishes of her brother. So Zane is doing everything in his power to provide a solid, stable, loving home for them. Because of the fact that Zane has been a caretaker from the age of 15 he has never had a romantic or intimate relationship with anyone. Yet he knows exactly what he wants when it comes to his siblings and when it comes to Noah.

This character is also amazingly appealing. He is young but mature and he is in a hell of a situation. Though he is doing his best he has been kicked out of his apartment and has landed almost literally at Noah's feet.

Being the kind of man he is, Noah offers Zane his help. Desperate and scared Zane takes the help and what happens is a slow growing, gentle, passionate relationship.

Cameron Dane writes relationships at a whole different level and while there are outside forces in this book that present problems to Noah and Zane's budding romance it's the complicated relationships between family and friends that really drive this story forward. In so many books the outside forces can seem like exactly what they are...plot devices to keep the main characters apart. In this book they are organic and resonate as something each character would actually do. The reasoning behind the decisions made are logical and realistic. The resolutions are honest and also organic and in being so we don't have plot devices - we have real life.

This book took me quite a bit longer to read than usual. I went slowly and savored every word, frequently re-reading entire passages several times (something VERY unusual for me). And the book still ended way to quickly for me. I wanted to see more of the day to day life of these characters. I wanted to immerse myself in their world. I wanted to befriend them, support them and encourage them.

This book is also sexually explicit - as all Dane books are - but it's not porn. Again the sex, the level of intimacy between these two men, is totally and completely organic. The build up to their first encounter is slow and steamy, involving lots of fantasy and not a little bit of angst. They explode when they touch each other, nearly every time, and each time is as exciting to the reader as the last. Damn but Cameron Dane can write a love scene.

Sadly this book did come to an end with a wonderful epilogue that tied things up and assured us that this wonderful couple did have a HEA. So now I wait for the next Cameron Dane book.

Though the third in the Cabin Fever series this book can easily be read as a stand alone.(less)

Ummm, so I'm going to go with 3.5 on this one. There is a five star story in here but it was buried under too much dialogue, too much prose, too many repetitive corny declarations...just too much. I found myself skimming until I found something of interest, then I'd have to back up, become engrossed for a chapter or so, then start skimming again.

The good is done really, really well. There are kernels of gooey goodness buried here - gems that will make you smile, make you teary, make you proud....more

It's a sweet story, but it lacks the sense of bat-shit-crazy sexual overload which coloured the previous book (although there's a carrot used in unexpected ways, as I'm sure you've noticed popping up in the feeds of everyone reading this book!)

There's still a lot of very graphic and lovely sex, and some classic Dane lines ("...sending Zane's rectum into a confused state of bewilderment"), but here it's played as a ~~straight~~ more traditional romance.

I'm sorry, but this one just wasn't for me. Younger man/older man combo is awesome...in theory, but then it got kind of daddy-relationship-y to me. Maybe I just read it that way, but yeah, that's how I read it, even without any overt "f**k me, daddy!" comments.

I ended up skimming beginning about halfway into the story. The sex scenes were a little excessive, the dialogue was a little unrealistically candid and flowery and verbose, and just...I didn't vibe well with the story or characters ultima...more

This is the third book in the series & I read the series in 1 1/2 days. Exhausting. These books are all lovely romances BUT everything is done so dramatically. Sex scenes can go on, and on, and on for PAGES. By this book I actually found myself skipping the sex 'cause it just got too much! Having said that, this book is less melodramatic than the others. It still has soap-opera-ish overtones but compared to the previous book, it is fairly tame. If you are in the mood for a HEA that you need...more

Despite the problems I had with this book, I enjoyed it as a whole. The characters were likeable and acted logically or at least understandably.

The problems:
* Too much sex. It got boring quickly once they started having it. I didn't mind the carrot scene, though. The exhibitionism was bothering be somewhat.

* Grey's speach was too long. Not enough Sirus and too much Grey. But they're good together, so all is cool.

* Too many kids. Fascinating and helpful and lovable, but too many for comf...more

I've griped before about m/m romances that have the two main characters jumping into bed, doing the horizontal mambo within a couple of pages and then having sex every other paragraph!

Well, HURRAH!! This lovely story gets it just right. Noah and Zanes romance is perfect.
What I really loved was that Cameron Dane kept the sexual attraction between the two of them simmering for a long time and the will they/won't they tension was written so well that I was almost sorry when the inevitable happened....more

On a superficial level, I also loved the cover. The character development was strong enough for me to get a true sense of each of the main characters, as well as the secondary ones. The pacing was good, enough angst to make me want to click to the next page on my Kindle.

All that should give this book a 4 or 5 star rating but I couldn't do that.

This was the third book in a series, but I didn't realize it until I sat down to write the review. I can now see the connections to the second book easily, but it didn't interfere with me enjoying this story.

Now on to this story and what I think about it.

The story is about a middle-aged man, Noah, who came out of the closet in a rather spectacular way about a year before. He had a wife that was his childhood sweetheart and has two grown sons. I can now see the connections to the second book easily, but it didn't interfere with me enjoying this story.

Now on to this story and what I think about it.

The story is about a middle-aged man, Noah, who came out of the closet in a rather spectacular way about a year before. He had a wife that was his childhood sweetheart and has two grown sons. His attraction to another man was the catalyst even though the other guy chose to be with someone else. Now with a little pressure from his oldest son and the knowledge of his own needs, he tentatively starts dating. But each time he is dissatisfied and comes home alone while trying to figure out what is missing. It is not until he steps in to help a newly evicted guy and his two siblings that Noah begins to realize what was lacking.
But the problem is that Zane is much younger and he is straight not to mention the poor guy is practically overwhelmed by responsibility so Noah tries to keep his distance.

Zane has more on his plate than even Noah is aware. He is in awe of the man who swoops in as his savior by offering him, his brother and sister a place to stay, a car to borrow and then a part-time job. Zane has no intentions of letting Noah learn of the fear he has of the kids' aunt swooping in and taking them away from him or the trouble he is in with a dirty lone shark for the money he borrowed to stay afloat.
When Zane learns Noah is gay, he is shocked and then later when he is alone he does some hard thinking about his own feelings and attraction for the kind, handsome man who has become his friend and more.

The plot starts out slow what with establishing what is going on with Noah and then with Zane. It takes its time as the two guys tentative grow closer on one level while their attraction smolders impatiently waiting on another level. There were scenes that extended the story and there were a few moments when I found them unnecessary and repetitive. I'm all for smoking hot passion and heated or tender declarations, but in my book there can be too much and too often especially when its not really advancing things along with the plot. It was not something huge or glaring; it was just something I thought because I got distracted at times before plunging back into the story.

As to the characters, I really liked both the main characters and I also enjoyed all the secondary characters from both their families, the staff at Zane's job and Noah's friends- who were the main characters in the book before this one. Most of the focus was on Noah and Zane and the story switched back and forth between them which was nice so I could get things from both perspectives. I was particularly struck with the way it ended when the two men just didn't dive into their happily ever after. I liked the realism of how they, particularly Noah, were aware of the time needed to integrate their lives and their children before they could have a full-on relationship. I also liked how their was a friendship between them and a good camaraderie with the children.

This was a very enjoyable and satisfying read that I can recommend to all who enjoy m/m contemporary romance with a spicy side.(less)

I meant to write a review of this book a lot earlier but I have found myself a bit distracted... with reading it over and over and over again :)

They are both very well developed heros who's difficult circumstances rather than crushing them actually made them stronger. Was the story too long for me? No. I have appreciated every background character and his or hers impact on either Noah or Zane. I have also immensly enjoyed learning all the personal monologues each hero had. It all showed me that Cameron is not shying away from covering every corner of ones life making it as believable as possible. One may say that it can sometimes feel overly peachy (friendship with an ex, support from kids, overly helpful AND stunningly handsome rescuer, fixed relationship with a family member.....) but it all worked for me. Yes, sometimes life's a b...ch but it can also give you back your good karma big style! And because both Noah and Zane were pictured as honourable to the bone it made it all click together beautifully.

On a more personal note I would like to share that I got sick and tired of stories where one of the characters is constantly convincing the other "he is not like THAT" at the same time getting convenient amnesia about this fact when they are both naked (or half way there)... Again, to some Zane's virginity and a pretty quick acceptance of his growing feelings for Noah may look a bit.... I don't know... to good to be true...? But when you take into account Zane's life you will soon understand why he dealt with this unex[ected attraction in such a way. It doesn't read fake and it's most certainly NOT author's lazyness in developing this character. To me it sounds just like what the real Zane would actually do and I loved it to pieces! Thanks Cameron for making it so refreshing and sooooooo beautiful!

Cameron... you have just created yet another great story. I salute you!

This book ranges from "great" to "cheesy" to "ick?" and "again??".

The storyline is sweet and awesome and in the beginning I fell hard for the characters. Both are immediately loveable. There interaction is equally written well, you feel the chemistry, everything is peachy. That ist the "great"-part.
Only complaint about the first half of the book I have is, that I didn't like the detailed imagined sex. That felt like the attempt of the author to add sex to that part of the book when the MCs don'...more

I’m just going to simply state the problems I should have with this book that I honestly were able to easily let slide because of how much I adore these two men to pieces!

1) Complaint: The age gap is too wide for a believable HEA. It’s 17 years. Noah is 42 (with a 19 year old son!) and Zane turns 25 by the end of the book. Yes they would be happy now, but what about when Zane is around Noah’s age, say 43, and he’ll be with a 60 year old man?

I really have enjoyed this series to date, particularly Grey's Awakening, where we first meet Noah Maitland, who is a 40-something that has recently admitted to his wife and family that he is gay. Noah's story continues in A Younger Man. After divorcing from his wife, who remains supportive as do his 2 sons, he struggles to find his way through dating again. He is a monogamous person looking to find someone to build a relationship with and trust the same way he trusted his ex-wife. It is the immense pressure to find this combined with his fears from lack of intimate (gay) experience that catapults nearly every date he's on, to his utter dismay. Not only that, his family wonders why he broke up their family if he isn't going to seriously date and move on.

It is at about this stage that Zane Halliday literally falls at the feet of Noah. After being evicted and thrown out of the apartment where he is raising his younger brother and sister, Zane is tossed to the curb as Noah is walking into the building. The sad story from the young, desperate man, in addition to his stunning sapphire blue eyes, immediately ignite the protective, alpha side of Noah, who helps Zane find a low rent place to stay along with allowing him to borrow his car. From there sparks an unlikely friendship that is unaffected by their nearly 20-year age difference.

Noah respects that Zane basically gave up his teen years to care for his ailing stepfather and when his stepfather passed, assumed custody of his younger brother and sister. With limited education though, Zane's job options are limited and he was completely tapped by the time Noah found him. Noah offers him some part-time work working for him and they start spending a lot of time together. Zane, on the other hand, sees Noah as a larger than life avenging angel. He is well built, handsome, has a great home and business, and a family that loves and admires him. And, Zane knows how much Noah has helped him and his family get through this tough time. Noah is struggling with parents that he loves not understanding that he is gay while trying to date “appropriate” men, all while being attracted to Zane, who as a much younger straight man is not appropriate. Zane has literally no sexual experience aside from a couple of chaste kisses with girls in his early teens. Between taking care of his stepfather, his siblings and work, he hasn’t had any time for a love life; but he is very attracted to Noah, has had vivid fantasies about him and is not sure how to deal with it. Add in the fact that his homophobic aunt wants custody of the kids and is looking for anything to help her cause, and that he owes a loan shark money, and things are as complicated as they can be. Zane knows Noah is gay and some innocent touches suggest a possible interest, but can Zane risk everything he has with Noah – a new good friend, a home, car and job – on the chance they could have more? Can Noah risk his new friendship with a solid employee on a dabble with a young, inexperienced man that may want to experiment but could turn around and break his heart?

There is a sweet and innocent love story here, paired with quite a bit of not so innocent and steamy m on m love scenes (not that I’m complaining). I have read other reviewers say that this is a good, but not terribly exciting book. However, while I can understand that, I did find a truly endearing quality to the characters that made me want so much for them to overcome their challenges and find a way to make it work, and was very happy with the ending. Teeny word of warning to fans of this series and Grey’s Awakening in particular. It is not nearly as intense between the characters. On that note, Grey had a couple of great cameos in this book that were quite entertaining. All in all, fans of this series or the m/m genre looking for a book to plow through and leave you feeling warm & fuzzy, I recommend that you just dive on in.

I had been looking at this book for months before finally deciding to download it to my Kindle. After reading I'm kicking myself for waiting to download such a great book. I have to say that I've not found a great amount of romances like this one that involve men of two different generations, which is also why I was a bit hesitant. This book is well-written, the characters are interesting, lovely people and are attractive, and the storyline is compelling.

The reason I have stopped reading is because of the fact that it contains elements that personally bother me...this book might well work for others.

Noah is an extremely attractive man, both in looks and personality, so seeing him try to make his way in unfamiliar territory was so interesting.

I think another reason for his awkwardness is his father. Since coming out Noah has had a strained relationship with both his parents, his father especially. This is really heart breaking to read as his tries to regain that bond.

So here we have Noah, ready and interested in dating men but tentative. Into his life walks Zane. A man too young with too many responsibilities, and straight.

My heart broke for Zane. He's doing everything he can to honour a promise made to his step-father and keep his family together. Noah is there for Zane when Zane desperately needs help. While Noah helps Zane out of bind their friendship never seems unbalanced, it was really interesting to see their relationship deepen and become stronger. While Noah is attracted to Zane he never lets that influence his actions in helping Zane and his siblings.

The sexual chemistry couldn't be hotter. I think that has a lot to do with newness on both their parts. They're both open and willing to explore the attraction and just going for what feels right for them both.

I was so curious where Dane was going take Noah's character and it was so worth the wait. This was a great story about finding love and loving your family, as well as making tough choices and sacrifices.

Even though this story is a part of a series it can be read as a standalone story. Recommended.

OMG!!! I LOVED this book! I chose to read this as part of the "New August Challenge". Part of the challenge is to read a book by your favorite author in the M/M romance genre. I debated pretty hard between three and four stars on this and finally decided to go with four because I really, really liked this book up until about the 70% scene...right about the time of the carrot scene. If you love hot man love scenes with lots of love and romance, you'll like this book. These two become friends first while Noah is fighting his attraction for a virgin eighteen years his junior whilst just have coming out of the closet after a recent divorce (a virgin to hot man love himself) and while Zane is trying to figure out why he is very attracted to Noah but realizing because of all of his past he really hasn't had a chance to find out what he's attracted to. This is very much a story of being attracted to the person. In some parts, it's like the blind leading the blind because neither one of them really has a solid clue about what they are doing and they are both pretty nervous, but it's a really sweet love story of both of them bringing their families together (yes, it's that predictable) and meshing their lives together. The dialogue was really, really great between Zane and Noah...loved all the endearments...and the character development and back story of both of their families was incredible. You really felt like you got to know who both of these men were and what made them the men that they are. Excellent sexual chemistry between the characters and a wonderful setting on a lake in the mountains of North Carolina. I think I would have liked it a LITTLE better if Zane had been about thirty since I feel like twenty-four is really young to be agreeing to forever, but I got married at twenty-four so what do I know? And Zane was very mature and old beyond his years due to all his time being a parents to Duncan and Hailey. The story just works.

Thank God Zane wasn't holding a cucumber in that carrot scene or that could have gone bad.

I really enjoy Cameron Dane's work and I really loved this book about 42 year old Noah and 24 year old Zane. I love age gap books and the way Zane is portrayed in the book is so awesome.

He's not shown as a naive little boy not knowing what he's getting himself into, he has grown up to fast and has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. He may not always make the best decisions but he does what he has to do to keep his little family together.

I loved book two in this series so I thought I would try this even though I am not big into age gaps.
Even after finding out the age gap is 18 years, which really creeped me out, I still tried to keep going. Then GFY reared its ugly head, and I was done.
