Clarifina ~Books Are My Drugs~
I'm so happy and frustrated right now. Happy because White Walls was fantastic and it provided answers for so many questions I had in Insanity and frustrated cuz, well, there are other unanswered questions in this book that only Beautiful Nightmares hold the answers to. And I have to WAIT for Beautiful Nightmares to come out. Great! Just. Frickin'. Great. -_- At the rate I'm adding good books to my to-be-released shelf, I myself might just become mad. Mad I tell you. Mad!
Ok, so, White Walls...more

The second book in the Asylum Trilogy. And I feel like I should let everyone know that this is not a YA novel. It is a New Adult. There are some graphic scenes and language and you should be at least 16 years of age to read it.

It is true that this series is written out of order. This book showcases Addy's first trip to Oakhill and how she came to meet the stunning yet mysterious, Dr. Watson. Then the third book will pick up where we left off with Insanity....

And I may....

May...

Oh gees!
I'm already acting like a mad woman again just writing this, I am BOUNCING up an down and STILL biting my nails even though there is now nothing to bite.
Yeah, could say I'm anxious. But thats not the right word! I am so excited! I can't wait to devour this book like the first one.
I've already rated it five stars because I know this series does not deserve anything less!

Okokokok! So Ive finally read it- YAY!!

...and end review. That about sums it up.

This really should have been a prequel. To go back to the "before" while in the middle of a trilogy seems strange.

Very small spoilers ahead (nothing earth shattering).

Am I the only one who thinks Dr. Watson reads like a creeper? By the end of the book we do actually find out the explanation of why he was acting strangely - but it only works up to a certain point. Did this explanation let him off...more

Lauren, yet again you rip my heart out!!!! I wished this could just be a never ending series... So good! NOW I understand Elijah & Addy's connection ... Agh! I'm not sure if my heart can hold together waiting too much longer waiting for the 3rd book .. & please, oh please, there has to be 4th! I could just read and read forever the Asylum books! You are very talented & I only wish you the best in your career! I've read a couple of your stories so far, but I have to say, these Asylum...more

Any book that keeps me up half the night just to finish it gets at least four stars in my opinion. White Walls is the second book in the Asylum series. It continues thru the story of Addy and her time in the insane asylum,....chapters separating from before and after her breakdown. A lot of this book was a serious repeat of the "before" stuff that was in book one which was kind of a waste for me. But the "after" finally gave us some answers that drove me crazy in book one, This book is written w...more

Loved it!

Wow, I am seriously falling off here on GR with the reviews now that school has started up for my kids and I've turned into an extreme soccer mom but, yep, finally getting around to writing a short review for this one.

I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It was awesome to dip back into Addy's story and see how she met Elijah and the events that transpired after her escape from the insane asylum.

I ended up loving Elijah and am soooo happy that the author gave him more o...more

These books are going to make me go insane?!?

Holy cliffhanger.....they are going to send me to the looney bin.

Again, this book didn't fail to amaze me. I actually think it's better than the first one. The plot is just so amazing. Truly unique, brilliant and thought provoking. I couldn't stop reading till the end. Though there were still some errors, I actually didn't mind it while reading at all. The emotions were just raw, I could actually feel it. I was a little confused with the 'before' and 'after' divisions that makes me wonder where I'm really reading at. And yeah, it makes me feel crazy too but i...more

Oh dear Lord! As soon I started reading this I began crying my eyes out. All the pain and agony and torment that Adelaide went through in Insanity came rushing back and I was suddenly relieving it all with her. Every fear, every hurt, every anguish, every moment of love and every moment of hope. This book is breathtakingly beautiful. Insanity had me gutted and weeping hysterically for weeks, and although I started off the same way with White Walls, I began to feel that suddenly Adelaide could ha...more

Actual Rating: 4.5

I wouldn't say that this one was as good as Insanity but it was still amazing. Insanity ripped my heart out and tore it into thousands and thousands of pieces. This one gave me hope. This is because the books have different atmospheres. Insanity was filled with grief and confusion but White Walls had a clearer focus and Adelaide had hope. She was getting through the grieving process in a healthy way. I didn't bawl my eyes out in this one and that's because Adelaide was a strong...more

"Four Fantastic Stars!"

You whispered into my ear, caressed my heart with your words, and breathed life into my soul.

I sure hope the 3rd book comes out soon I was ready to hit it right after finishing this one but alas it was due out a couple months ago and still isn't. Anyone have any idea what's up? This one was goooooood .... need to know what happens next!

Edited to add: The Author Lauren Hammond posted an update stating the 3rd book will be out just after Christmas 12/26/12!! WAHOO!
Vikki ~where did my *squee* go ~
Well damn. This book went backwards instead of forwards - it's all about what happened the first time Addy was in the asylum and how she met Elijah. The feel of this one was much different then Insanity. There was an atmosphere of hope, where Insanity felt like it was all about despair. In some ways it felt like a filler book - like a way to fill in some of the blanks before you get to what happens to Addy after she starts to remember (at the end of the first book). I will definitely be looking...more

This series has consumed me! 5 shiny, bright stars for Book 2 as well! And a HURRY UP SEPTEMBER for Book 3!

I didn't quite like book 2 as much as book 1, but I think that is because it wasn't as long. This was a very quick read, and more of a novella at 140 pages. Which is weird bc I paid more for this one... However, I still loved this one and was very reluctant to put it down and not read until all hours of the night.

This one centers more around Elijah and Adelaide in the beginning, which was...more

I have absolutely fallen in love with this series.

White Walls does not confound you like Insanity does. I can't summarize the plot without giving anything away. I will try though... Adelaide has spent roughly 5 years in the Oakhill Institution. White Walls provides us a glimpse of how she first came to the asylum and some time in between those 5 years when she managed to (view spoiler)[escape. It is a beautiful story of the agonizing experience of letting her first love go and the uplifting exp...more

OMG this book was sooooooooo good! And I kind of had my doubts. I mean the first book, Insanity, was so insanely amazing that I thought for sure this one would fall into the "second book slump", but it sooooo didn't! I mean we all know that usually the first book in the series is always the best, and then the second tends to bomb, and the final book is usually better than the second, but can't beat the first. Well this second book was perfect!

In this book we get to see just how Addy and Dr. Wats...more

The first book was surrounded by so much mystery, confusion and suspense that it was obviously a tough act to follow. This one fell flat for me. In the first the switching of before and after fit the plot line. She was living so much in the past that it made sense for her to be hanging on by her fingernails, and making it a vital part of the story line. In this book I didn't feel that suspense, or the draw. I thought the flash backs/forwards were pointless. I felt like the only mystery was how s...more

My Thoughts:

What great sequel! Because this book actually took place before Insanity, a lot of gaps were filled in and a lot of things made more sense, or at least as much sense as these books can make…

Adelaide is suffering from an unthinkable tragedy: her father killed her beloved Damien, in front of her eyes. They had their whole lives planned and it was all taken away in a heartbeat. Adelaide doesn’t know how to cope and so she is sent to the Oakhill Asylum. Once there, her and her roommate,...more

Yes! O Yes! I loved White Walls!! I thought about these characters all weekend. With this read you dont feel as nuts as you do in Insanity but you understand a bit more. It goes back to the first time in Aslyum when she first got there and how she got there and how she left all though you learn Insanity some of the reasons why she is in there. It pieces the puzzle for you. You learn that Adelaide is stronger in the begining that she is not as crazy as you thought second time around which was the...more

This trilogy is seriously frustrating. It has the potential to be so much better than what it is. I don't really know what to think of this installment. I liked it, but I didn't like it. I felt as if it should have been more of prequel or a novella when I was reading it rather than a book in the series. It was okay, but once again, it could have been better.

The first thing I have to say about this book is that it only confused me once, unlike Insanity. With this installment, I was confused about...more

Lordy, Lordy, Lordy. I’m kind of at a loss for where to start with this review...in a good way. Although White Walls wasn’t quite as good as Insanity, I still absolutely loved it. First of all, I have to admit something… when I started this book, I didn’t know it was going to tell the story of Addy’s first trip to Oakhill and finally tell us why she always felt a connection to Dr. W...more

*If you haven't read Insanity. Please do not read this review! It may contain spoilers.

I’m putting it all out on the table. I didn’t think White Walls could live up to Insanity. I thought for sure it would fall short in some way. Sequels aren’t usually as good as the original, right? In this case it was just as good, maybe even better.

Insanity focused on Adelaide’s life growing up and her second stay at Oak Hill Asylum. In White Walls we finally...more

***This may, or may not be spoilery, it's hard with this series, but I'll try my best……

Let me start by saying that I didn't expect to go backwards, but I'm glad we did. It was a perfect way to answer some of the questions I had, while giving me new ones. Even though White Walls is very short, I loved that we got a deeper look into the characters. It was not a mindf*ck like Insanity, but it book still kept my curiosity peeked and the theories going.

Adelaide showed a good deal of grow...more

Just as good, if not better than the first one (Insanity). Of course it was also just as confusing, because Hammond still wrote in both the past and present (or before and after) but it referred to a different before and after than it had in the first book (try and keep up, she makes it a challenge). This was kind of a prequel to Insanity so it answers a lot of questions Insanity had left us with but it doesn't go any further into the future than Insanity did so we still don't know what's going...more

This has totally become one of those series that I don't want to put down. You know that feeling when you finish a book and you're so happy but at the same time depressed because it's over... because the author couldn't find it in their heart to be a bit nicer and make it longer but at the same time they ended it at just the right moment!

White Walls dances between Before and After just like Insanity but I really liked the After better in this one! I LOVED seeing the relationship between Addy an...more

Adelaide has gone crazy... but is it due to the stress caused by realizing her past or is the asylum and all of the stuff they pump into her on a daily basis?

"The sad reality hits me. I'm going to die in this room with white padded walls. I'm going to die, stuffed into a straightajcket like meat and rice into a pepper. And there's not a damn thing I can do to prevent it from happening."

We now understand that before Adelaide made her second appearance in the asylum, that she knew she was slowly l...more

While this book was quite a bit shorter then Insanity I have to say I really enjoyed discovering how the releationship between Elijah and Adelaide came about. And Elijah *sigh*...what can I say. LOVED him. And I would have loved even more regarding them as a couple...Beautiful Nightmare perhaps?? The teaser for BN surprised me...and makes me even more curious as to the circumastances surrounding Adelaide and Oakhill. This series is all sorts of CRAZY and insane. I have really learned to love Dr.Watson. I didn't think I could get over Diemen's death. I thought no man can measure up to his character. I was wrong. Dr.Watson is different but extremely lovable. He is very broken with a painful childhood and this made his personalities a bit hard to deal with if you don't invest some time to get to know the real him.
I thought book 2 was a bit repetitive. I honestly skimmed through a few "Before" pages because the information was brought up over and over agai...more
