Well I suppose I'm a little biased, but who'd want to read a book when it's own author doesn't think it's five-star material?
Monster Town is an idea I was sitting on for about five or six years. It started when I helped some friends make a not-for-kids movie called, "Snakeville," and when they were tossing ideas around, I desperately tried to convince the other two that it should be about a world where monsters are living amongst us and dealing with mundane problems. The setup for the one idea I...more

There are lots of good ideas here, but I think that the author needs to work on some more of the basics for the next book in this series. My main quibble is that the point of view shifts from character to character without warning or explanation. (I think this is the reason that one of the major characters seemed to be on both side of the battle at one point.) Character history is also introduced somewhat haphazardly; such as in the middle of battle scenes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the first to last page. I plan on re-reading this book with my son. I know he will love it. Kids can identify to the main character, Bobby, who feels out of place and surrounded by monsters. But even he, even though he is unsure at first, is capable of completing monumental tasks and is a key part to his society. I can't wait for the next book!
I never wanted to put this book down! It's the perfect mix of humor, fun, mystery, and a little bit of drama.
I was kind of iffy when I first found this book thinking it would be too much like the Disney movie Halloween Town, but it's something completely new and different.
I definitely recommend Monster Town to anyone looking for a new fun book to read!

Monster Town didn't seem to hold my attention as well as I thought it would despite the very original premise. I do think that a child in the targeted age group would enjoy this story.
