He tied his boat off and started to climb the cliffs. He knew that no one had lived to tell what was behind the cloud, but still he climbed.

The island's sides were a sheer drop, but so full of cracks and irregularities he found ample hand and foot holds, as if the island were made to climb. Its very existence in the middle of the giant lake seemed to say, "Come, and see."
