Every so often I read a book that leaves me with mixed feelings. “My Trickster” by Serafima Bogomolova is one such book. Although I found the story confusing at times, I was compelled to continue reading to the end. The story tells the tale of “La”, a dynamic woman thrust into a “man’s world” full of power and deceit.
Serafima weaves a tale full of mystery and suspense, full of unexpected twists and turns, the reader is hard-pressed to guess what will happen next. The tale jumps from the point of...more

I just finished reading My Trickster by Serafima Bogomolova. This fast paced, quirky book is a relatively short book that has a way of throwing the reader a little off base. It bounces back and forth from one point of the view to the other, from Angela to McBride, telling the story. Sometimes the same scene is told over, after one of them as explained what is going on. Then towards then end of the book, it is told in 3rd person. It does lead to a bit of confusion.

After visiting Serafimas’ website, I knew this was going to be an interesting read – and it was!
This is a very quirky book that revolves around the main character Angela (“La”) who is a beautiful woman, with a dangerous streak. Men want and desire her and she uses her beauty to her advantage. Rich, powerful men are drawn to her and she plays lots of “political games” to get what she wants, when she wants it.
La calls up an old love of hers, Juan, to help her in Moscow. Even though he is reluctant...more

At times this was a hard story to follow with all the twists and turns Serafima has you going on and there were times I had to go back to reread just to keep on track. But once you get past this it is an amusing story that will leave you in suspense. This story reminded me a lot of a classic movie where the characters are unique, the story line is unique and they concentrated on the scenery. The way Serafima gave you details of the different cities really made you feel like you where there. I ha...more
A disorganised and confused narrative that was unfortunately impossible for me to follow.
I was intrigued by the idea of My Trickster, I had never read anything with a Russian setting before and the blurb seemed mysterious. I wasn’t sure which genre the book was going to be, romance, thriller or adventure so I was interested to get started. Unfortunately my hopeful interest for the book soon faded and by the end of the third chapter I was wincing. I tried so hard to get into this book, I kept wai...more

I love this book. It is fairly short and simple to read, but it doesn't lack in anything. From a good story line to interesting characters this book has is all. I love how each "episode" in the book has a short quote that gives a hint at what that part of the book is going to be about and makes you want to continue reading. The setting, in Moscow is also vividly described and gives the book a unique feel. I couldn't stop reading.
