When Tara Reed inherits her grandmother’s house, she shudders at the ugly lawn ornaments she finds, one which is even politically incorrect. Although she plans to eventually get rid of them, she decides to leave them until her friends come for a visit so they can all have a laugh. Little does she know there’s much more to these statues, and to her family, than she can imag ...more

A creepy read. Tara Reed inherits an old house from her grandmother. The property comes complete with several tacky lawn ornaments and a gargoyle fountain. Sheriff Jake Tyler takes an interest in Tara and from him she learns her grandmother's death occurred under mysterious circumstances. Once she's settled in, Tara invites a group of old friends to visit her for the weekend.

I love scenarios like this....a group of unsuspecting people in a creepy old house as the horror elements slowly inch towa

Creepy in all the right ways, The Gnome is a novella I wasn't sure I'd like as much as I did. I don't often read scary things, preferring more sensual paranormal fare, but at times make exception for an author I've read before. Quick paced and simplistic in storyline, Elliot introduced a paranormal element I've not encountered before. Kudos. I tend to like more romance in my selections, and if that element had been explored in greater detail I would have liked it even more. One thing I particula ...more

The Gnome by Lauralynn Elliott
Tara Reed is rather surprised to find out that she has inherited her grandmother’s house. Being she was always the woman’s least favorite grandchild. Along with the house she has also inherited a host of creepy looking lawn ornaments. At least living in Road’s End does lead her to the handsome sheriff.

Sheriff Jake Tyler is starting to wonder about the beautiful woman who is new to town. She seems a bit paranoid. But then again, he can never forget the 911 call from

The giggling, garden gnome scared the crap out of me. I’m so glad I don’t have any garden ornaments and can say with certainty now that I will never, ever be buying any. I collected gnomes as a child, the toy ones from the cartoon. I thought they were charming – not anymore.

This is a short read; I finished it in one sitting, in bed (not the best place to read a freaky story). I was hoping Tara would do a little more ass kicking, and she did towards the end, but I guess I’ve been watching too mu

Show of hands, who remembers staying up past their bedtime to watch Tales from the Darkside? While reading The Gnome, I had flashbacks of being a kid watching that spooky TV show. There are all the right elements in this story to give the reader the shivers—an old house, strange noises in the night, creepy garden ornaments that keep moving closer and closer to the house, and a group of unsuspecting visitors. And WOWZA, the way the main characters were written, you did NOT see that ending coming! ...more

Who knew a gnome & dragonfly story would be so good!

I have to admit I thought the story was going to be a cute little tale or kinda on the corny side, but it was really good! Character development was great, the suspense and slow climax kept me wanting to read on. I really enjoyed this and think it should be made into a television sci-fi movie.
