A graphic novel collection of the one-shot books featuring the rest of the Knights of Good characters from The Guild web series.A nice follow-up to the first volume that introduced the readers to the Cyd Sherman character.I have not seen the web series so this is all from the perspective of a newcomer.

Background: The Guild Volume 2 showcases the lives of the Knights of Good before season 1 of the show. It includes the one-shots of Vork, Tink, Bladezz, Clara, and Zaboo as we are lead up to the Season one start with Zaboo meeting Codex. We learn about their family members, home lives, and how/why some of them play the game.

First, I read very few graphic novels. I'm not big into comics. I do pick up a few when they relate to something I already like in other media (Buffy S8, Fray, The Walking Dead, V for Vendetta) or if I see an artist somewhere that I like, like Dragon*Con (Ted Naifeh). So, keep that in mind. :)
I REALLY liked the first TB with Codex as the focus. It was really funny and highly enjoyable. This one was slightly less so, but still really good. I thought the character's voice was captured really well...more

I am a bit of a Felicia Day fangirl. This is probably no surprise to anyone who’s met me for more than 30 seconds, but I felt like saying it anyways. So when I saw The Guild volume 2 ARC up on Netgalley I snapped it up without a moment’s hesitation. I have really got to stop doing that. Now I’m in the awkward place where I have to admit that I didn’t love something Felicia Day did with all my heart. I mean, I liked it, but it’s not warming the cockles of my heart.

Guild fans! You can't miss this volume of backstories of our heroes that before now, was only alluded to in episodes of the series or not revealed at all. While it doesn't further the current season storylines as we know them, it does give us important (and fun!) information on Tink, Bladezz, Vork, Clara, and Zaboo - all leading up to the pilot episode in season 1.

The Guild: Knights of Good (The Knights of Good #1-5) Review by Gally Lines (4/5 stars)
My review of The Guild vol. 1
Whereas the first volume of The Guild shows Codex's life before the first season of the web show and is done by one artist, the second volume focuses on the backgrounds of the other five members of The Knights of Good, hence the title, with each one-shot done by a different artist. As expected of a good prequel, they tie-in people, events, and conversations in the show.

First up, I have to admit that I'm totally biased and I love everything that Felicia Day creates, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
This oneshot gives us an insight into Vork's life when he was taking care of his grandfather. His grandpa is a seedy old dude with wandering hands and substance abuse issues, and he loves nothing more than giving Vork shit. He goes to raves, BBQs steaks in the middle of a grocery store, and grabs asses whenever he feels like it. In a nutshell, he's ever...more

Felicia Day is my new favorite person. Seriously guys, her stuff is awesome. But more on that later.
This compilation is of a couple of The Guild books and was pretty good. I had already gotten hooked on the online video series, however, so when I was reading it in my head it was in the actual voice of the characters and I think that it helped tremendously in making it come to life more. You just have to love how cooky each of their characters is, it's great!

Clara is my favorite character from The Guild. She's a married gamer with little kids who has a serious addiction to her RPG and spends little if any time taking care of her family. Somehow or perhaps in spite of this, she comes across so funny and Clara'ish, that I can't help wanting to see more of her.
Just like the comics for Vork and Codex, the story dives into Clara's everyday life. In particular her husband, Mr. Wiggly's impatience and growing frustration with her inability to keep a deadli...more

The issue didn't disappoint at all, it was wacky and dark which is why I thought the artwork matched the writing style very well.
I'm a big fan of The Boys and artwork produced by Darick Robertson so when I found out he was going to be drawing the Vork issue I knew I was going to be in for a treat! Score!! :)
I think it was a smart move to have these comics created, as it allows the viewers (fans of the guild) to see more into each characters lives which the short webshow can't give.

This is another prequel to the television show that has the same humor and sensibility as the show. This one is broken up into separate character stories. Some are better than others but all are very true to the actors who play the roles in the show. Overall this graphic novel wasn't as good as the other prequel but still enjoyable to those who like the show.
3.5
A set of short stories about each of the members of the Guild. The stories are cute, and give good background information on the various characters. Since each issue was standalone I didn't like the volume quite as much as the more cohesive first Guild book, but it's definitely a fun addition for any fans of the show or of the comics.

A fairly good follow up to the outstanding first volume. Not quite as good, and I can't really put my finger on exactly why it wasn't as good. It was nice getting to see snippets of all the other characters lives before the show began, but part of me thinks that the fact each of them had so few pages to tell their story was what held this back.
Set before the first season of The Guild, Knights of Good gives real-world background information on all of the main characters. (Except Cyd, whose background had been detailed in the previous collection, The Guild.) The quality here is a bit more variable. Compare Clara's story, which gives no new information or insight about the character and could be set at virtually any time, to Zaboo's, which is a direct tie-in to the first episode of The Guild and gives some insight into Zaboo's thought pr...more
Bladezz is not my favorite Guildie, but I still enjoyed learning about his secret model past. I wanted to get my hands on all of the other issues, but my local comic store didn't have them in stock. Alas.
But if you like The Guild (and if you don't, why are we friends?), you'll get a chuckle or two out of this bit o' Bladezz.

I didn't love this one as much as the first Guild volume...probably because of the lack of Codex. However, fans of the show will appreciate the incite into the backgrounds of the guild members. Clara and Bladezz both had particularly adorable stories and art. Vork grossed me out a bit but then so does his character in the show.
Dammit Ms. Day, you actually made Vork into a believably sympathitic character. And threw in funny bits. A must read for guildies!

Plotwise there is zero to read here. But with said and as a guildie who doesen't read comics, this might be the best use of the comic format ever. I really hated it the first time I read it, but now, well it gets a 5.

Very enjoyable collection of chapters (one for each guild member except Codex) if you're a fan of Felicia Day's show The Guild. My favorite chapter was probably Tink's, just because we rarely get to see much emotion from her in the show. I mean in this story she's still very closed off, but I liked the ending of her chapter with all the books she drew inspiration from covering her desk. I also really liked Bladezz's chapter.

A very cute little addition to The Guild story line but not quite as good as the first graphic novel. Each segment gives a little glimpse into the lives of a different character's life outside the game. Zaboo's story was my favourite for having the stalker mini-game though Tink's succession of lies was pretty wonderful, too. Vork's story was the least entertaining, in my opinion. His grandfather was great but the story didn't click with me the way the others did. Clara's story was given a little...more
I really enjoyed all the background vignettes (or a cross between that and short stories since there is some coherent plot) that were both very creative and insightful about the Guild characters other than Codex.
I liked all the different artists in this volume. I also enjoyed that Tink's backstory is different with each of the Guildies. No surprise: I can appreciate a woman who judges, exaggerates, and lies.

Meh. Not that different or new information than what we get in the show. And I can't really buy Wiggly as a bad ass.
Also not a huge fan of the artist.
Which all sucks because she is one of my faves on the show.

I LOVED this. Absolutely loved it! I'm a massive fan of The Guild and I loved hearing about their individual stories, however I'm not a massive fan of Clara because even though it's in jest and I know it's all for good fun... she's a parent who's neglecting her children and that's a very real problem that's being played off for laughs!
