Allie prowls the club for a man who will use her hard and then ditch her. Hey, it's not rape if she wants it. Instead she finds Colin, who looks tough but treats her tenderly, despite her protests.

He tempts her, but kindness and a few mindblowing orgasms aren't enough to put her back together again. Two years ago her best friend betrayed her in the worst possible way; she'

My mind took up a chant. Hurt me, hurt me, hurt me. Make me hurt, cry, bleed. Make my outside match my inside. Help me get it out, because I can’t cry on my own.

After reading my review I was not so sure anymore if I should post it. You will notice it’s rather negative but that's the way I feel about this story/characters. Then again, I am a strong believer in honesty. That’s what you get when you read my reviews. I will outline what I liked and what I disliked. Moreover, everyone is e

Wow, this book really stunned me!

This is contemporary romance but it has a raw, gritty feel to it. There’s no sugary romance here – it’s edgy, thoughtful, challenging.

Allie is a young single mother. She was betrayed in the most awful way by her best friend when he raped her and then disappeared, leaving her pregnant and alone. She has in fact been let down by just about everyone who should have been there for her – only her friend Shelly stands by her and she has a good share of demons of her ow

The most amazing book I have read in a long time. Giving It Up is an outstanding tale about a woman on the journey of finding herself and realizing that she is worth so much more than she believed. The uber-hot Colin accompanies her on that journey and it turns out he has some demons to battle himself.

Once a month, Allie goes on the prowl for a man, one that takes her hard and rough. Maybe a little too rough, but that’s exactly what sh

In a nutshell, Giving it Up was a gripping and emotional romance that will stretch your comfort zone. If you like a dark mysterious hero as your Knight in Shining Armor, a damaged heroine who seems beyond repair, a heavy storyline with some dark moments (including the subject of rape), mixed together with some suspense and a bit of mystery, this might be for you.

This is an emotional romance story with a heavy tone and some dark graphic scenes, so I will say right now: it is not for the faint o
Giving It Up is not your regular sweet romance, and I liked that. It is a gripping tale with real life characters who are dealing with major issues. This is the story of Allie Winters and her journey from being a victim of rape to becoming a survivor. It is a story of healing and of hope as she learns to trust again.
Allie believes she is damaged goods. Suffering from the horrific nightmare of betrayal from someone she knew, trusted and loved, each day is a struggle. The only good thing to have

For whatever reason, I was expecting some seriously dark erotica with this book, just based off the description. This read more like a contemporary romance with a bit of something else - what it was, I couldn't tell you. Suspense would not be the right word. Mystery would be pushing it.

Over the past couple of years, I have had the pleasure of making some great author contacts and recently Amber Lin was one of them. I was very excited to be given the opportunity to read and review this novel. As I had hoped, Lin did not disappoint!! She brought a dark edgy element to her story, and I have discovered within the past year that I like reading this type of story, I love it when an author can get my emotions flowing! I think Lin has done an excellent job with her story and giving he

I'm glad I read this book. As a former rape victim I often seek out romance stories about characters dealing with the aftermath, and authors don't always get the emotion right, at least for me. Ms. Lin got it so "right" that I was bawling by the second page.

This book isn't only about Allie getting over her past, however. It's about her looking to her future and "finding her consent", a beautiful concept that also sent me scrambling for the tissues. I'll remember that scene for a long time. I do

Giving It Up is unlike any book I have read in a long while. It's dark with 'stripped to the core' raw emotions. It's not pretty but it's honest and it's REAL! It's so well written that you feel like you are watching this story as it's playing out, which considering the content is quite an emotional, scary and thought provoking ride!!

This story is about Allie and Colin. Allie (22) is a single Mum, her daughter being the end result of her rape by a very close friend. She is so emotionally damaged

I have to say that I am floored by this book... yes it's a little more on the darker side than I'm used to but the story itself is amazing. Allie is a beautiful girl who definitely has some issues and it's heart breaking to see everything she went through, but she's tough, and that strength is very admirable.

First of all, I'd like to say that I wanted to love this book. The premise is unique and twisted enough that it promised to be an interesting read. And the start held such promise I couldn't wait to get done with work so I could totally get into it. Alas, the great part was short lived and I had to wade through about 250 pages of intense dislike with everyone involved except for the adorable little girl and the old woman next door.

Allie's been through some rough things and she's come to believe that sex...and love can only be hurtful. So once a month, she sets out to look for that type of sex but this time she comes upon Colin. He looks the part...he just isn't. But what he is is just what Allie needs.

This story and everyone in it has a lot of secrets and it keeps you constantly guessing what's going on. We gradually get to know things in pieces but it had me always on my guard. It doesn't help that Alli

Article first published as eBook Review: Giving It Up by Amber Lin on Blogcritics.

Giving it Up is a novel which touches on many genres; erotica, romance, crime, thriller, and probably others I haven't thought of. It deals with dark, very real issues and is a damn good read.

The main character, Allie, is seriously damaged - even by her own admission. She prowls clubs looking for men who will use her hard and then ditch her. An incident with her best male friend two years ago has seriously warped h

You know how sometimes it's hard to connect to the characters? Well, there were times
I wished I didn't feel so connected to the ones in this one. Allie and Colin were about as messed up and damaged characters as I've ever seen.

For my friends that love charters with more demons than hope - who pull themselves through the mud to get their HEA - this one is for you. Fabulous.

This nearly end up being a DNF for me after 2 chapters, but then I endure it and after finishing the book, I love it so much. I am wondering why this amazing book got such a low rating. Maybe this is not a romance that will have you gushing, this is not a romantic love story filled with flowers and roses or sweet words either. This story felt so raw and real, at times dark and gritty, but at times with a little touch of humor.

It all started with Allie, a single mum, who prowl the bar once every

There have already been some really great reviews written about this book, some that have gone into detail about what this book was about, so I'm just going to put in my quick two cents here.

Allie, the heroine, was a likeable enough character and her past and everything she'd suffered was definitely heart breaking but some of the things she did had me questioning her thought processes! For instance, why in the world would you let a man you've slept with once, messed around with once and had dinn

Just OK.
May be I have some rather old-fashioned opinions, but I couldn't reconcile Ali's need for rough sex with strangers with her rape history. For me it would have made more sense if she refused sex all together as a result.

What I liked was how her feelings of being dirty and rejected has been described and explained. That made very much sense in her situation.

I couldn't also understand why she didn't want psycological help whith her problem...

The first book in The Lost Girls series by Amber Lin. Allie picks up Colin in a bar one night and gets more than she bargained for. But Allie doesn't do commitment or relationships. She's messed up and she knows it. Colin sees it too but is willing to take a chance.

Such a dark romance! A difficult theme but well done. It was just a tad too dark for my personal taste but it had its moments that kept me reading until the end.

It took me a day to figure out what I want to say about this book.

It ain't your typical erotica/romance, that's for sure. It'll pull you out of your comfort zone. It'll make you scratch your head in confusion, grit your teeth and ball your fists in anger. It'll make you worry and rant and shake your head in disbelief. The heavy and dark topics covered in the plot are not what you'd expect in a romance novel. It's not a light-hearted, feel-good story, wit

As much as I enjoyed the story and the characters, it was apparent that the author didn't really know what she wanted this book to be. It began as a dark erotic romance (this I expected), then it veered into crime drama territory (this caught me off guard), and finally ended - with some what of a whimper - in a much lighter erotic romance arena. There was just too much going on and many times the puzzle pieces just didn't fit together or make any sense. While I liked Colin and Allie together, I ...more

“Thank you for seeing my flaws and wanting me anyway.”

Allie Winters initially appears to be your typical single mother. An employee at a local bakery, she is living paycheck to paycheck and resides in a seedy apartment in Chicago below her best friend and babysitter, Shelly. Once a month Allie dons her “fuck-me” clothes and heads out for her monthly date night to a local club in search of finding her fix of raw, rough, dirty sex. At this stage in her life, she believes this is the only purpose f

Giving It Up was dark erotic suspense at its finest! In her debut novel, Amber Lin tells an emotionally gripping tale about a young woman driven to place herself in dangerous and questionable situations in an effort to cope with a past that stripped her raw of trust and warped her sense of (sexual) intimacy.

Allie doesn't trust men, and with good reason. She doesn't see men as capable of wanting anything other than sex any way they can get it, and she's learned that saying no doesn't he

Allie Winters doesn’t want a relationship. She essentially objectifies men so that she can use them once a month to get her “fix”—rough sex on her terms—as a way to deal with the aftermath of being raped. What she doesn’t want or expect is for one of the men she picks up to actually care for her, which is exactly what happens at the start of Giving It Up. Colin Murphy looks the part of “tough guy,” but he shows a tender, caring side when he

First, we meet Allie – a single mother who works at a bakery. She is tormented by her past as she was raped by Jacob, her childhood friend, and is forced to raise her child on her own. To relieve her stress, she goes out once a

He was going to say I saved him. It was going to be so romantic.
