First off, I’d like to thank Ms. KaSonndra Leigh for the copy of this book in return for an honest review (which is what I am going to do)

REACTION AFTER READING THE BOOK:

I got that crazy smile on my face when I finished reading this book.
Why the crazy smile?
But this book drove me nuts! (in a good way)

THE GIST

Dark Seraphine follows the Point-of-View of Caleb Wood. Ever since he was a kid, he knew he was different. He could see people appearing out of thin air. He could talk to them, hear them. H More...

First I'm going to say thanks to KaSonndra Leigh for the giveaway.

This book was AMAZING. I didn't think it'd be as amazing as it was. I thought it'd be mediocre. Nope. I was wrong.

I liked Caleb. He's not the cocky type. He's not popular, just a typical high school guy with his own friends, not defined by a clique.

Kyle was good, too. He's the guy that chases the snotty cheerleaders even though he knows they'll turn their noses up at him. He doesn't care.

For a cheerleader, I actually liked Eric More...

I am very impressed with Kasonndra Leigh’s writing. This book has a terrific plot twist, with very real feeling and lovable characters, and the feeling of needing to know now! This creates a real page turner.

I first fell in love with her writing in her other book; The Lost Immortals: When Copper Suns Fall, and Now this one. Also, there is another book after Dark Seraphine called Lost More...

I want to thank the author, KaSondra Leigh, for providing me with an eARC of this book to read and give an honest review. Getting this book for free in no way influenced my review.

Blurb from Goodreads:

This was an enjoyable and entertaining read. Caleb is a young man who has always had the ability to see spirits. Until now, they have been silent, never speaking. Until now, he has successfully managed to pretty much ignore them. Then everything changes.

I love the way in which the author tells the story. I was immediately pulled into Caleb’s world and cared about what would happen to him and his friends. The sentences are beautifully constructed and fluidly flow from thought to thought without a More...

When I first started reading this book I was unsure of how I would like it. The storyline was different. The characters are different. As I continued reading I came to see what a fresh, new and unusual story this is. Kasondra Leigh has really outdone herself with this book. It is one of the best that I have read in a long time in this genre. And look at that cover! Isn't it gorgeous!? I love it!

The story takes place in small town New Bern, North Carolina. A nice and normal coastal setting. Looks More...

The small town of New Bern, North Carolina is the setting for this very entertaining book. The story is written from 17 year old Caleb Woods point of view which I found insightful and sometimes hilarious. As a child Caleb is in a near drowning incident in the ocean near his home. The incomplete memories of how he managed to survive center around the vision of a girl. She still haunts his dreams but the answers to the mystery of what happened to him stay just outside of his grasp when he is awake More...

“Dark Seraphine” is one volume of the “Seraphine Trilogy” by the author.
Caleb seems like a “regular kid”. He’s a senior in high school who plays Lacrosse, wants to start his own gaming company when he graduates, has a brown belt in jujitsu and teaches an after-school class on self-defense. Caleb’s also upset because his mom and dad are talking about moving to place that’s far away from his friends and his school in a few months.

Caleb is of American Indian heritage, however. His grandfather was More...

Before I start writing this review let me just says thanks to KaSonndra for giving me the chance to read her book in exchange for an honest review. Also I would like to say thanks to the light people in my town for getting my power back in only a few days after Sandy. I only lost power for a few days compared to people who lost much more than power. Otherwise I would be reading by the candlelight and well not reviewing anything.

While the story was interesting enough to get two stars, the language and poor writing made me highlight and notate as if I was editing a students paper! The most appalling aspect to the writing, is the main characters repeated use of the word retard and retarded. This is a hate and ignorance filled word that no person should use, let alone a novel written for teens. The 'stupid hormone-centered every-thought' dialogue was enough to annoy. Add to that numerous citations of improper English like More...

Well well... wasn't I just sucked into this book pretty much instantly! :)

First off, I really enjoyed reading for a guy's point of view. Caleb was one interesting character! Cocky, funny, and he was a smart ass. I loved it! But I really enjoy reading from a guy's view. Just views things slightly differently...

What I wasn't expecting from this story was such twists and turns. Caleb can see ghosts, angels, and things of that nature. Rather interesting for a quiet guy. But, one "Walker" as he calls More...

Great book!

I really liked it, it was a fast read, the writing style is amazing, so entertaining, fluent and with a splash of humour.

The author mixed the paranormal stuff with everyday teenage problems and that made it great and believable.

I didn't gave it 5 stars though because there was a part in the middle that was a little boring.
But only the middle because the beginning is awesome. It starts in a super interesting way and hooked me up from the very first page.

I liked the background of the More...

The dialogue was awkward and in some ways it felt like she was trying too hard to sound like a "hip teenage boy". It all felt so juvenile and wrong. And ridiculous phrases were overu More...

This book was amazing and is definitely a page turner. Because I had no time to read in the day, I ended up reading it at night and I just couldn't stop. I even sat by my phone charger just to read. Caleb is a very strong character, but isn't invincible, which makes him read. Because he has some weak points,he instantly becomes a real seventeen year-old boy who just wants to live a normal life. It can be funny at some points or serious in others. The mood set in the book was perfect and it gave More...

After reading Hacienda Moon and When Copper Suns Fall, I became a huge fan of KaSonndra Leigh's work. When I found out she was writing a new series from the hero's POV, I was really excited to see what she'd create, and I was thrilled to accept an ebook copy for review! A very grateful thank you to KaSonndra for the privilege to read this suspense-filled story; it kept me on the edge of my seat up to the very end, only to throw one more surprise my way before it all came to a close!

This review can also be found on my book review blog Night Readings.

I have very mixed feelings about this book.

One the one hand, the plot and the mix of lore makes it a pretty unique and interesting read. I always looked forward to the moments where Caleb managed the get hold of more information about the Walkers and the strange situation he finds himself in.

There was however some things about Dark Seraphine that bothered me and therefore spoiled my reading experience.

I really really am crazy about this author, KaSonndra Leigh, and her adult novel, Haceinda Moon. I loved that book so much and it was a ghost story too *(not usually my thing but lately it fits). She is a great writer and can really spin a tale of torture, suspense, and love.
With that being said, Dark Seraphine, just wasn't for me. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. It was just blah for me. Nothing really stood out for me. I like Caleb but he wasn't a spectacular character that I i More...

After reading the summary, I was intrigued. After reading the story, I thought it was unique. It was so different from what I had expected.

Caleb has always been able to see those who aren't really there. He calls these people walkers. However, none of them have ever talked to him. His world is about to change and it's all because of her.

I really liked Caleb. Partially because he was different, and partially because he really didn't have a filter. He More...

I love stories with the male POV so I was ecstatic to see that this one was told through the voice of Caleb, our male protagonist.

I really liked Caleb’s voice. At first I wasn't sure I would because you know, he is pretty realistic. Pretty male and pretty typical, slightly immature, and leaning slightly toward the typical horndog seventeen year old boy. But, he really grew on me and I came to like his inner dialogue. His self deprecation and humor.

It is going to be hard describing this read with More...

Dark Seraphine

It has to be hard to write for a teenage boy. I mean, I have one and I seriously don't understand him. There are things that he does that makes me scream on the inside and shudder on the outside.

But leave it to KaSonndra Leigh to find her inner 'bro'.

Huzzah!!

Caleb Wood is not your average boy. He sees Walkers. Now, at first I was thinking of the "I See Dead People" boy but Walkers are a tad bit different. I guess, I was reminded of the black oil X-files type thingys. Ok, that's not More...

I loved KaSonndra Leigh's book The Lost Immortals: When Copper Suns Fall, so I was very excited to read Dark Seraphine. It was excellently written from the male POV and I found it so refreshing. This is a must read beginning to a series I can't wait to dive back into.

Review first published on my blog, Pieces of Whimsy

3.5/5

Dark Seraphine is the first book in a new series by KaSonndra Leigh and though it took me a while to connect with the book, I eagerly await more.

The idea of the Seraphine and Melusine was quite brilliant. I haven't read many YA books with sea creatures/water beings, so it's always refreshing when I do. I would've liked to know more about them, about their history and what they can do, so I hoping the next instalment will quench my thirst to More...

Ever since he was a baby Caleb has seen Walkers (spirits), but has kept it to himself, they usually appear for a minute or two and he never sees them again, that is until he keeps seeing a a girl his age a walker whom even talks to him which none have ever done before.
Her name is Gia and the more she appears and she does, anytime, anywhere the more that Caleb can't stop thinking about her, even if he is supposedly dating Erica the most popular girl at school.

Dark Seraphine is told from a male point of view, Caleb's, which I loved. Caleb has seen "walkers" his whole life. When he was a child he used to speak to them, but that stopped. Now he can again, and a new walker, Gia enters his life. Gia is dark, mysterious and is giving Caleb warnings about the dark things that are going to happen. Erica is Caleb's sort of girlfriend, who is gorgeous but Caleb is torn between Erica & Gia(who is now in the human form, going to his school). Soon dangerous t More...

Things I like:

I like how normal Caleb is... Throughout the story some of his problems were still for teenagers (One reviewer also pointed this out, I just can't remember who he/she is... Sorry!)... I have read some books that the character was a teenager but the way he/she thinks is not... Way too mature for their age... I also like the twists in the story... Especially the ones in t More...

A huge thank you to KaSonndra Leigh for offering this book in exchange for an honest review.

Caleb has seen “walkers” since before he can remember. They don't speak to him, so he just deals with them as if he's blind to them like everyone else. That all changes when a beautiful walker starts talking to him. He knows nothing about her except that he's the only one who can see or hear her. But when the gorgeous walker girl shows up at his school, sporting the name Gia and a crew of her own, things More...

Caleb Wood has always been able to see the Walkers. He doesn’t know what they are; he just knows that no one can see them except him. Then one decides to strike up a conversation with him and become corporeal and he can’t help but obsess over her. Then creepier Walkers start turning up and everything gets out of hand.
