True Blood, HBO's blockbuster paranormal drama, enthralls a diverse audience of 13 million viewers (and counting). Menus at the now-famous Fangtasia and Merlotte's Bar and Grill play a key role in the series, providing sustenance for its human characters, evoking memories of a bygone life for its vampires, and serving as a powerful symbol for the desires and carnal needs t...more

Full disclosure: I'll give five stars to any book that includes photos of Joe Manganiello. I mean it.
The Encyclopedia of Dead Kittens, Featuring One Photo of Joe Manganiello? Five stars.
Why Hitler May Have Been an All-Right Guy, Featuring One Photo of Joe Manganiello? Five stars.
End disclosure

It's hard to really "review" a cookbook, but I sincerely loved this one. The writers did an extremely good job of relating the recipes to the show; it's not just a series of "Oh, here's a recipe for soup;...more

When was the last time a cookbook made you laugh out loud? This book is beautiful photographs, lots of booze, classic Cajun/Southern recipes, and charm, and I loved it. Don't track down a copy if you're not a fan of the show (or if you haven't finished season four - the book spoils some of the most entertaining surprises), since the actual recipes are relatively simple and often sidelined by luscious double-page photography spreads (for similar cuisine, I recommend Basic to Brilliant, Y'all: 150...more

Where does one start? When this reviewer first saw this book it was assumed that it was some form of tie-in to Halloween or maybe a Goth-subculture. Stranger things have been seen and all of that. It was not to be.

Instead this seems to be a part of a (horrible) modern-day trend to tie-in books and other items to fictional places or happenings that are featured within television programmes. In this case True Blood is a drama series, set in Louisiana's bayou country in the fictional town of Bon Te...more

A bit sceptical, but since this is coming to my local library, I naturally have to see what this looks like. Nice idea, though. I'm waiting for Lafayette's recipes! *drool*

Edit: Right, let's see what this is about...

Edit 2: I'm only giving this three stars, because at its core the book is still only merchandise to cash in on a popular show. However, there's a lot that I liked about this. I'm not a cooking enthusiast (more like an eating enthusiast), but I'm actually considering making some gumbo...more

This book is just a beautiful hardcover edition for any Trubie fans. The photos are great (from seasons 1-4) and the recipes have clever names and a little humor in the descriptions.

The recipes are all pretty simple to make, and there's a lot of comfort food in there. So far I've tried: Sarah Newlin's Banana Pudding, Tara's Pie, and Maxine Fortenberry's tuna casserole. The banana pudding was such a huge hit that I've made it on request three times now :) It's very, very sweet though (too sweet p...more

Love love love it! I tried the Sloppy Jason's which was awesome. I can't wait to try almost everything. I love the pictures and the narratives that go with them. There are some really good ideas for meals and desserts and I can't wait to try some of the drinks. There are some recipes I wont try like rabbit stew or anything sea food but other than that, this is my favourite cook book.

Each recipe and each section is prefaced by one of the characters from the tv show, and these snippets were fun to read and sometimes quite amusing. The recipes themselves all sound delicious, though the prevalence of Tabasco sauce will be skipped if I make them. I'm particularly excited about the pie recipes - fried apple pie and glazed fresh strawberry pie here I come!

ITs a nice cook book. You find recipes you already know and some you don't especially if you don't live in the south hehe. Each one comes with a little story from certain characters in the show in their words. Haven't made any recipes yet. But glad to know them.

NIce big pictures of both the show and the food. Recipes are somehow related to a character or scene. It's OK as a book, but there were just a few pictures of Bill. If I wanted reciped, I would buy a cookbook!

Read my roommate's copy-- she had made hoe cakes from it that smelled pretty good, but almost every recipe in the book starts by putting a few tablespoons of bacon grease in a skillet :/

It's an okay read - I watched and enjoyed True Blood - the recipes are a lot of fried things with bacon and grease, but it is from Bon Temps so what do you expect?
Jessica
Well, it made me want to cook. That is a miracle all on its own. I laughed at the portions written by "Sookie" because it was just silliness. Fun for a fan of the show (probably not the books though.)

3.6 stars As a fangirl of True Blood anything I grabbed this book ASAP. I opened it and found full color glossy pages of stills from the TV show, one to go with every recipe and fillers in between. I tried 8 of the recipes, they were ok, not fantastic. The ColeSlaw Comuptence, Brujo Burger, Cajun Potato Salad, were really good, but nothing new. I was most disappointed in the Seeing Red Bunt Cake, it was so over sweet and did not taste like the Southern Red Velvet cake I have eaten here in Texas...more

Written as the t.v. characters this book is not as good as any that Charlaine Harris could write. The recipes are at best, ones you already have with a slight change. No big deal. Set up more like a scrap book of the show, and disturbingly features recipes from dead characters who "narrate" their recipes as if they are alive.
Miki
Meh. I like the Sookie books, not so much the HBO series "True Blood", and this book is mostly about that. Most of the recipes are for mixed drinks with names like "Zombie Surprise" and "Bite Me" - well, not exactly, but you get the point. Not something I'd ever read again, or cook from.
Sarah
I borrowed this book from the library to check out the recipes and now I can't wait to purchase it so I can try the recipes!
Annmarie
Not a story but a cookbook with interesting recipe titles and easy to make recipes.
Lauren orso
why would talbot have so many recipes if 1. he's dead, 2. none of them are trifle?

I am a big time foodie and love the show, but the cookbook didn't work for me. Have the book is mixed drinks and the recipes weren't anything special.
Katie Macgregor
Love the stories behind the southern dishes that related to the show!
Katharine
Amusing, but not many usable recipes.
