I skimmed this story. It wasn't one of my favorites back in the day and I found that to be the case this time around as well. Falcon is one of the higher-ups in the Carpathian order, so he's domineering and closed off. There isn't a lot to the story. They find each other, Falcon claims her, she resists for a second but can't help herself..basically normal Carpathian fare. Nothing to write home about.

Hard to go wrong with a book of back-to-back stories of hunky, hot Carpathian men as they battle to win the hearts of their women and fight for their lives against those evil, gross looking vampires with bad breath. Not to mention all the other creepy crawlies that sent shivers up my spine but, unlike the heroines, I didn’t have my own Falcon or Traian to save me. Although Joie and Sara had all the fun, there was a high price to pay,...more

To start with, I listened to this on audiobook and I'm not sure if I'd recommend that version for this book. The narrator does not separate the chapters while reading, so it seems as if the action is skipping around a lot until you realize that it was probably a chapter break. Also the narrator makes Traian sound like the classic Transylvanian vampire (muahahaha I vanna suck ya blood). It kinda threw me out of the story at times.

On that note, on to the review.....

The book contains two previously released novellas by Christine Feehan. If you follow the series and haven’t already read these stories, or if you desire to keep all books/stories within a series shelved together, than this book will be a good purchase. Being short stories, we aren’t being bogged down with the Carpathian angst with the darkness in their souls.

If you are new to the series, this isn’t a bad place to begin, although starting with Dark Prince is a better choice. But if you’ve read...more

Dark Nights is the latest instalment from Christine Feehan in The Dark Series. This book comprises two earlier books, Dark Descent and Dark Dream with added detail to each of the stories. The first part of Dark Nights is from her 11th book in the series, Dark Descent.

After being critically injured while performing her duty as a bodyguard Joie Sanders connects with injured Carpathian, Traian Trigovise. They have several conversations while believing she is dreaming, but in fact having an “out of...more

I know a lot of people really enjoy this series, I do too. This story isn't about the brooding Carpathian ready to "meet the sun." Traian is a fierce h...more

This book contains two stories - Dark Descent and Dark Dream - both re releases so be beware that you have not already bought them previously as individual titles, this I find a bit deceiving by the author and hence the three stars instead of my usual 5 stars for books by Christine Feehan.

Dark Descent is the story of Joie and Traian. Joie is a human "superhuman" which comes in handy as her profession is a professional bodyguard. She has special abilities, one being able to leave her own body and...more

It has been a long time since I read this series. I stopped at book five because the stories were too repetitious for my taste. I actually got stuck with this book, but the funny thing is I really enjoyed it. As I was reading I remember one thing about this series that I really enjoyed, it’s the way the author writes her fictional characters. They take what they want and will stop at nothing to get it. Most writers write their paranormal creatures way to fluffy now days and I don’t enjoy that ve...more

Dark Nights came with two books in it..an "author's cut" edition of Dark Descent and a novella of Dark Dream. Both stories followed two Carpathian warriors (which, in essence, are vampires themselves), Traian and Falcon, their trials and tribulations over the centuries battling vampires, as well as their search for their "lifemate" (that word got on my nerves), then their happy times and salvation after finding their "lifemates"

This book just didn't do it for me...I found myself really wishing...more

The Carpathian world has always fascinated me and I have been hooked since I started my first Dark book.

Dark Nights is a collection of two previously published novellas. Dark Descent appeared in The Only One anthology, and Christine has added more pages to the story. Dark Dream was published in Dark Dreamers anthology and remains as it is.

Dark Descent was the main story of this book and I have to say I loved it, Christine breathed fresh air into a current story. I think needless to say I would l...more

I saw there was another new release in the Carpathians series one bookshelves the other day so I grabbed it. Thankfully form my library, if I hadn't I would have been ticked. This is a re-release of two old Carpathian novellas. Dark Descent and Dark Dream.

So first and foremost, Dark Descent, I liked this one even though it was pretty far in the series. I think it was because of Traian and Joie's banter. They connect through astral projection, Joie believing it to be just dreams is still haunted...more

Joie Sanders is a tough bodyguard who is special. She's able to communicate telepathically with her older brother and sister. During one routine assignment, she's shot and ends up astro-projecting herself through the Carpathian Mountains. She finds an amazing cave where a handsome man is lying in a mud puddle. Since this is all a dream to her, she humours the guy and answers some of his questions. Months later, after her recovering, she finds Traian. Dragging her brother, Jubal, and sister, Gabr...more

My previous grievances with Dark Descent were the characters were not fully defined, and the plot seemed to glide over significant details in order to be convenient for quick resolution. While we get more action scenes, more time in the characters' heads in this new version, I still feel unsatisfied. I believe it is because the way it all dragged itself around, rehashing the past, visiting the characters' whys in such a blatant way...it was almost like a novel written by a beginner.

Traian always...more

We go back to the Amazon jungle on an adventure to a volcano. Little did anyone know that volcano was about to erupt and release an ancient evil force. Riley Parker and her mother Annabel were on their way to perform an ancient ritual to keep the evil locked in the volcano. "But a strange heaviness, an aura of danger seemed to be following them..." Luckily there was also a counter presence, DanutDaxton (or Dax) who was locked for centuries in the volcano with the ever present evil force. His mis...more

Readers beware: this is NOT a new book in the series but instead is an author's cut of two previously released short stories. I happen to like both short stories but this is a cheap ploy to trick readers out of more money for previously published stories.

DON'T BE FOOLED!

Not one of my favorites of Feehans but still a great read. The vampires are ganging together becoming a stronger unit to fight against. Traian and Joie find each other through telepathy then when Joie and her siblings explore the Carpathian mountains in Romania. The Carpathian men are always so sexy protective. Joie is a bodyguard and can take care of herself but not against the mighty vampires. I love that the Carpathians need to find their other half..their lifemate. By finding their lifemate...more

I enjoyed the original novella, "Dark Descent," but the additions in the new version felt as if they didn't quite mesh. (At least now the scene in Dark Storm where it talks about Jubal's bracelet makes more sense.)

Although I’ve already read both stories in previous books, it was nice reading them again. Christine Feehan adds additional information and storyline to Traian and Joie’s story, and she did such a great job. It gave me more insight into the both of them. In it’s original version I thought it was too rushed for me to really enjoy it even though I did because it was a great one. But at the time if felt she could have added more details, and it would have made it better. And it did. Awesome writing...more

This is a reprint of two earlier stories that were part of anthologies.

In Dark Descent, it has been expanded by quite a bit from the original. With the expansion, it enlarges the role that Jubal should have in all books that he was mentioned in, as well as Gabrielle. More so than what was revealed in Dark Celebration for what cultures they are descended from.

In the reprint of Dark Dream, it is pretty much the same as when originally published.

When I first saw this in the store I wasn't going t...more

It's taken me a couple years reading a lot of paranormal books to fully appreciate the Dark series. I've read a lot of both good and bad books, and that puts these books in a new light. There are a few things that annoy me about these Carpathians, but overall I do love them. So what annoys me, you say? Mostly that they can be somewhat narrow-minded about their women, also that some of their women can be a bit too 'damsels in distress' from time to time.

Joie, thankfully, isn't a whiny brat. She's...more

This is a rerelease of two stories set in Christine Feehan’s Carpathian world. The novella, Dark Descent, has been revised and is a much longer story than the second story, a short called Dark Dream. Both of them are basically about two Carpathians finding their soul mates, but Dark Descent is an action-packed story that we come to expect from Feehan. However, Dark Dream is short and to the point when it comes to details and act...more

I thought it was weird that the Falcon and Sara's story was before the one with Triane and Joie as in the order it is before.

I remembered Falcon and Sara's story, in fact it is one of my favorites of the series, I think it is because of the kids.

I didn't remember Traine and Joie's, which is odd as I remembered the Sander siblings right away. I always feel sorry for Gabrielle and Gary and re-reading their first meeting makes me feel it more so.

I love all the alpha males in the Dark Series, but I especially love when they fall for head strong life mates who’s not afraid to fight at their sides….I would rather read one long story versus two short stories…these books are just that good! They leave you hanging on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next….hope another reunion is in the foreseeable future. :)

I really love this series... the lifemate theory was very romantic to my eyes and Feehan has the talent to let me vividly imagine almost the whole story. Still, the best moment of the carpanthian series is not from this book but mostly from her later book 'dark predator'. Whatever it is, I love this book!

I LOVED this book. I love everything about the Carpathian series! But I was VERY disappointed with the ending.. Dark Nights ends on page 268 while the short stort Dark Dream picks up right after. I was shocked how it ended. It felt rushed, like I was missing half the story.. :/
It ends with them taking the Carpathian rest in the ground discussing about meeting Joies' parents.. WHERE'S THE REST!?!!?
It better pick up in the next book >.>
Would been a five star had there been MORE to the ending...more

This was the first book in the Dark series that I read, and I absolutely loved it. The connection these two shared was wonderful to read. I had to go back and read the entire series, and its in my top 5 favorite series of all time.

The original short story, "Dark Descent", was my introduction to Feehan's Dark series. This expansion works pretty well, and it's great to see characters I liked all over again.

I did not choose to listen to the Falcon/Sarah short story, so I can't comment on that.
Sandra
At first i thought it was some printing error when the story ended halfway through the book. And then i realized that there were two stories. That's great but i wasn't satisfied with the first half. The vamp didn't even meet with her infamous parents she was going on about. Disappointing to say the least...
