Okay another Garlock historical. I have loved every book I have ever read from this author well except one. Her bookshelve is getting bigger and bigger all the time. Definately keepers in my opinion. Just the way this author writes makes you feel like you are there, not just reading the story but actually watching it play out in real time.

Excruciating formula romance with, as a bonus, scads of heavy-handed "colorful" dialect. How bad does it get? Well, one character actually uses the word "Californy," straight out of The Beverly Hillbillies theme.

The story shores up every regressive, patriarchal notion you could imagine. I had to read this for work. You, on the other hand, have a choice.

I listened to this on tape which was great. Sometimes the reader really adds to the story. I loved this book. Its a great summer read and it just is nostolgic and i liked that and just the sweetness of the love story is nice. Would definately reccomend it.

Set on Route 66 near Sayre, Oklahoma during the depression, this tells the romantic story of Leona and Yates, brought together almost improbably after Leona's brother-in-law Andy is bitten by a rabid skunk. Loved this story--highly recommended.

I picked this up for the title. I traveled this road across Oklahoma with a friend last summer. It is much closer to romance than I usually read but was a good one for me after the last few I have read. There were characters that I liked and cared about what happened to them.

Not what I expected. I liked the idea of a book set during the Dustbowl years, along Route 66 and expected something more Grapes of Wrath than True Romance. It was OK but I really don't like romance novels. It was not for me.
Cindy
Kind of peaceful, in that route 66, 1930's way, nicely woven story, most of the characters are sweet, innocent, helpful, doing good to the folks out their in the world, and a few characters are vile along with their tempers, swearing, and overall nastiness. Good wins, the package gets tied up. If not for the vile characters, it would be a wonderful family book, but alas, it cannot be so!

What a nice romance story. I enjoy Garlock's series. Brings back some memories, although I wasn't around in the 30's, I still remember some of the products like Tangee lipstick stuff like that.

A story set in Oklahoma on Route 66 during the Depression. The story moves along quickly and I read it in one evening.

mother Road is a heart warming story of a family on Route 66 and both the good and bad people who lived around there.

it's sooo heartwarming that it makes feel lovesick.. but that didnt stop me from loving this book :)

realized this was a reread; life at a gas station along route 66 during the depression. sweet - simple hardworking life with few modcons. Seems like a uncomplicated back to the basics life - I would probably last 2 seconds.

This was my first Dorothy Garlock book. It didn't feel romancey at the time, but at the time I hadn't read a romance novel since I was 17! I picked this up before a long road trip. It mentioned places in Oklahoma (where I live) and I thought that might be interesting. It was, and I went on to read many more of her books. Like Mary Higgins Clark, I don't recommend reading too many in a row. They follow a pattern, too. Still, a fun pattern!

This was a good look into the dynamics of sisterhood which, as the only girl in my family, is mystery.

I'm not much a fan of historicals and don't really know why I didn't realize it as being one when I bought the book. It didn't get interesting to me until about page 300. The end was awesome though.

The books written during the Depression era centered around U.S. Route 66 really captured my personal interest.
Sarah
Simply wonderful book. You want it to go on.....and never end.
