Pete the Cat books rock. Didn't know anything about them, until I saw a Pete the Cat class at my local library for my K-5 grade and signed him up. Then I checked out some of the books, to see if he'd like them. Not only did he love them, but my 2 yr old twins do as well. He's laid back, cool, and groovy with beautiful and colorful illustration. All three of my kids love finding the yellow bird that follows him around on every page. (Makes me think of my Richard Scary books I had as a kid where I...more

“Pete The Cat Saves Christmas” is a great holiday book. It is about a Santa who is a cat. Santa is sick the night before Christmas. He is very worried that he will have to cancel Christmas, but then he remembers his friend Pete. He asks Pete if he can deliver the presents. Pete knows it will be a tough task, filled with obstacles, but he says yes to help Santa out. Pete gives it his all and successfully saves Christmas.

The book is targeted at younger kids, ones who still believe in Santa Claus....more

I must confess I at first didn't understand the magic of Pete the Cat. I thought that they were interesting books with odd rhyming/rhythm patterns. But when you listen to the free download of the book being read with the song being sung, then they become a classic that you just can't get out of your head.

That being said, Pete the Cat Saves Christmas is like that. I didn't understand how to "read" the book until I could "sing" the book. And now I can't help but love it. I love how Pete the Cat he...more

Twas the day before Christmas, Santa couldn't make it due to his bad cold, so he called Pete the Cat to deliver Christmas to the good boys and girls. Even though Pete the Cat is small, he is going to give it his all. So Pete the Cat delivers all the toys to the good girls and boys by using his totally groovy mini bus with the help of Santa’s reindeers. Pete kept on singing his song, “Give it your all” as he delivers the Present throughout the world. Pete returned back to the North Pole with a wa...more

I saw Eric Litwin speak at the Michigan Library Association's Spring Institute earlier this year. I'm paraphrasing, but he said something to the effect of joining the "long tradition of Jewish guys writing Christmas songs" with this book.

There are some good things about this title. James Dean's artwork is still bright and fun. Like others, I loved Pete's minibus. The message of Pete being able to do a big thing despite being small is OK, even though I'm not a big "picture books should have a me...more

I love Pete the Cat, but any time a popular character is made in to a holiday book, especially a holiday like Christmas that a lot of kids don't celebrate, I get sad. Really, really sad. Usually it's not that great of a book and I can only think of all the kids who won't enjoy it or get or be allowed to read it even thought Pete is their favorite cat in the whole wide world. Happily, this is not the sell-out I thought it would be. It's very well done and as a secular Christmas celebrator I enjoy...more

Pete the Cat Saves Christmas is a spin of the traditional Christmas tale “The Night before Christmas,” where Santa is too ill to deliver the gifts on Christmas Eve and must enlist Pete the Cat to help. Pete saddles up the reindeer for the big night and “then the minibus flew, just like in a movie. Pete t...more

Eric Litwin's Pete the Cat books always include a moral lesson for the children, as does Pete the Cat Saves Christmas, which is written as a parody of The Night Before Christmas. The book is about Christmas in the Santa sense, not the religious meaning, it stresses that we should do what we can to help people by repeating, "at Christmas we give, so give it your all".

My younger students all love Pete the Cat. I'm looking forward to reading this book with them as the Christmas season approaches....more

I'm generally skeptical of Christmas books based on popular characters. It always feels like, after the author has had some success with a character, the publisher says: "why don't you write a Christmas story now!" They're always good sellers.

I adore Pete so I hoped this one wasn't too formulaic. I think it works fine, and the message of giving is right on. I don't love the song, though - it feels unfinished. The illustrations, as always, are delightful, with Pete driving around in a vw minibus...more

Another hit of Pete the Cat.Bases on the story Twas the Night Before Christmas. Pete teaches us to give it your all no matter what. It is in the spirit of Christmas to give it your best and that is a groovy thing to do. My 7 year old granddaughter loves all the Pete the Cat Books and her stuffed Pete the Cat. They read together and sleep together. Looking forward to the new books coming out in Feb. Books are great for young and old. My granddaughter reads them over and over again. She loves Pete...more

This fourth "Pete the Cat" book brings us another inspiring and uplifting message about positivity. In this wonderful book the song we sing is "give it your all". This is the perfect refrain to match the annual season of giving. Pete the Cat has to take the place of Santa. We know he can do it! As he sings his song (and keeps moving along) readers of all ages are reminded to be sharing, giving people who go the extra mile! (Funny truth: Eric Litwin says he has joined the annals of Jewish authors...more

Give it your all!
Give it your all!
At Christmas we give....
so give it your all!

My kindergartners absolutely love this way cool cat. And his Christmas adventure, in which he saves the day after Santa comes down with a cold, does not disappoint. Pete the Cat may be small but he's willing to give it his all (because that's what we all do at Christmas). And a groovy van pulled by reindeer doesn't hurt. Pair this with the video clip from the publisher for an over-the-top-...more

Pete the Cat, by far, is my Kindergartners' favorite book character. The charm of his books lasts much longer than our library time together. I love to see students get excited about these books and I cannot keep them on the shelves. This newest addition, however, is not my favorite. I wish the authors created a whole new story for Pete instead of combining it with an already existing Christmas story. Will this disappointment keep me from adoring Pete the Cat? "Goodness, no!" But I think they co...more

Big Kid Reaction: This is great fun to read. Pete's refrain about "giving it your all" will resonate with parents who want kids to remember the true meaning of Christmas! The story has a Twas the Night Before Christmas cadence, but a very original, modernized tale.

Pros: Bright illustrations, a selfless cat, and a great story combine for this picture book destined to become a holiday reading tradition.

Cons: None, really. People who don't have access to a computer won't be able to hear and downloa...more

Pete the cat is back and he comes to the rescue when there is a problem right before Christmas time! Santa becomes ill and he is about to give up when he realizes that he can rely on Pete! I love how this book comes with music to enhance the story and children will love to sing along! Give it your all! It teaches children to never give up on something and around the holidays everyone needs to give it their all. I love the illustrations and the book sends a great message.

When Santa falls ill before the big day, who does he call? Pete the Cat, of course.

The fourth book in the Pete the Cat franchise is a reworking of the classic Twas the Night Before Christmas, but the book maintain's the Pete the Cat bottom line of appropriate responses to new challenges and a certain pluckiness that comes of celebrating one's. . .umm. . ."gifts."

A great holiday book with one of our favorite characters- Pete the cat. My kids love singing along with this one...and they really belt it out, too! Litwin has done a wonderful job with this book that sends a good message to kids: give it your all. Santa is sick and asks for Pete's help. Even though Pete is small, he gives it his all. Will it be enough to save Christmas?
Carroll County Public Library Staff Recommendation
Santa is sick. Will Christmas be ruined? Of course not! Pete the Cat will save Christmas in cool groovy style, with a minibus that flies ("just like in a movie!"), and a lesson learned along the way: even the smallest cat can do great things. The latest in the delightful Pete the Cat series, this musical picture book practically exudes holiday spirit.

I used this fun book about giving your all at Christmas at our local town Christmas tree lighting ceremony. There was a large crowd as always, but not so many listeners! However the 30 or so children who came to the front of the stage, were excited to hear the new Pete the Cat book and sing along with me on the repeating phrase. Groovy!
Roberta Snyder
Very cute and sweet message. I love the illustrations. Pete the Cat is just endearing. What resonated with me was the "twist" on The Night Before Christmas, but in an updated comical way. Yes, I would recommend this book. I love all of Pete the Cat books and I'm so glad I was introduced to them. A book full of caring, sharing, and giving.

It's a cute, fairly predictable rhyming Christmas book told in tone and style of Pete the Cat. It's not as authentically 'Pete' as the original or Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons, but it's a fine Christmas book that will make kids who are big Pete fans go squee! I've got one of those fans at home myself, so yup, dealing with that squee.
Christine Ridout
This is the 4th “Pete the Cat” book and the quality slides a little bit each time. Nevertheless, the children love the jaunty, irrepressible Pete who never gets down no matter the circumstances. The story is a rather prosaic version of Rudolph. Santa is sick so Pete saves Christmas by delivering children’s gifts in his minibus.
Rob Johnston
Groovy book... He drives a minibus to save Christmas. Good stuff.

If you're not familiar with one of the most popular hippy/surfer cats out there, perhaps you should be. (You know, if your heavy reading includes books for 6 year olds.) My niece really liked it, and I got a chuckle; can't ask for more than that.
Julee
While this was not as catchy and fun as the previous Pete the Cat books I still loved it because my preschool students loved it and my family loved it. Who doesn't love Pete the cat? Rhyming holiday story-Santa Cat is ill so he calls Pete to save Christmas. Pete gives it his all and saves the day.
Shelli
This fun holiday read offers a unique spin on the traditional tale "The Night Before Christmas." Pete the Cat shows that giving your all in the spirit of Christmas is what the holiday is truly about. I think children will love Pete the Cat’s version of Santa’s sleigh the most, I know I did.
Tyrone Hardy
Pete saves Christmas is an excellent sing along book that is suited for pre-k to 1st graders. Obviously, it would be best to read the book during the holiday time of year, but be mindful of students different cultural backgrounds. This book reminds me of the Rudolph the red nose reindeer stories.
Molly Robbins
Children love reading these books so this would be really fun for them to have this read to them around Christmas time. It is fun for them because Pete the Cat comes to help Santa save Christmas! It has lots of rhyming words, along with being able to do a fun sequencing activity with it too!
Michael
I got exactly what I wanted for Christmas "Pete the Cat Saves Christmas" which was actually a gift from my dog Rikki which is a bit ironic. Here our friend Pete follows a Night Before Christmas type rhyme as he saves the big night with a musical message of the need to give it your all.
Melody
A very cute and fun Christmas story. I have enjoyed all the Pete the Cat stories and so has my 4-year old. Pete helps deliver all the Christmas gifts when Santa isn't able to make the deliveries. Pete agrees to try to do the job even though he is small. As always, an enjoyable book.
