Rafferty was a unique hero in the world of Alpha males: he didn't let the circumstances of his early life make him bitter or an a*hole like other romances I've seen. He was very accepting but not beaten down, he made those difficulties learning curves instead of walls holding him back. He was supportive while not overwhelming Lissette, letting her find own way without making her feel abandoned. He was truly the best male character I've seen in a CONT ROM in a while.

I would have liked to seen mor...more

That’s what Lisette Montcrief was feeling as she is trying to shop for a few baking staples. She’s just been given the news that her 2 year old son Kyle is going deaf. Lissette Moncrief had always had an infatuation with cowboys, and when she was sixteen a fortune teller even tells her a cowboy is in her future. Coulda been because she lives in Texas, but when she dates and marries Jake Moncrief, her very own cowboy, her romantic hopes far outweighed real life. When he is killed in Afghanistan, she is surprised to learn that he didn't name her or their two year old son Kyle as beneficiaries, instead he named his half brother Rafferty Jones. When she learns that...more

When I originally signed up to be on this book tour I was on a huge romance novel kick, which coincidentally always coincides with my period, and I kind of forgot about it. Then I got it in the mail and was like, oh... I hope this isn't one of those hokey romance novels where the woman just loses her breath when the cowboy whips a cow and and down on the farm loving.

Oh stop it, you know I'm judgey like that.

Fortunately, this turned out not to be like that at all and I totally loved it, finishe...more

This is the third book in a trilogy. I haven’t read the others yet, and I don’t think you need to in order to enjoy this one.

I think the way A Cowboy for Christmas is packaged is extremely misleading. I don’t mean that in a bad way; the book has very little to do with Christmas, and I think a lot of people are going to miss out on a great contemporary romance because they’re going to expect some wholesome, “heart-warming” story.

You expect certain stereotypes when you pick up a Texas-set book wit...more

If I was reading the actual physical copy of this book, instead of the e-book, I would have thrown it against the wall!!! I've really liked Lori Wilde's books in the past, and truly wanted to like this one, but after taking the better part of two weeks to get less than half way through it, I realized that I was avoiding reading it because I just didn't like it. The story centers on Lisette, who is a young widow with a toddler she has just been told is going deaf, with no hope of reversal. Her hu...more

I purposely don’t read a lot of excerpts or even check to see what the next book in an author’s series is about. Gets me too worked up and I have to wait even longer when there’s anticipation involved before that story finally makes it into my hands. All I knew about the next in this series by Lori Wilde is that it would involve a cowboy; Jubilee, Texas; and one of the characters I’d already met in a previous story. I’m so very glad I never read even the synopsis for this book, because the surpr...more

I’m most likely going to be one of the few that thought that this was a less than stellar novel.

Lissette Moncrief’s husband had been killed in action and has left all his money to a half-brother instead of to his wife and child. Lissette is a baker and could have used that money to help her 2 year old son and grew her company that supplies wedding cake and other Texas goodies.

By accident, (literally) Rafferty and LIssette meet up in a grocery store parking lot when she hit his truck. Rafferty...more

Lissette Moncrief always had a thing for cowboys so it was no wonder a fortune teller told her one was in her future! She and Jake had a whirl wind romance and ended up married three months later, but bull riding lost its charm and when his buddy died in Afghanistan he enlisted. When Jake returned from war, he was a different person and she discovered that he cheated on her as well, he didn't want her to stay in military housing but a ranch they bought and settled her in Jublilee, Texas which wa...more

Lissette had lost her husband on July 4th, He had been serving and died saving children. The story opens in the fall of the year and Lissette has just discovered their son Kyle is going deaf. To make matters worse, Rafferty, the half brother who inherited her husband's large life insurance policy instead of her, shows up.

I didn't like this at first...I mean come on..you need money for your child but you're to proud to accept money given to you..That's not pride that's sheer stupidity..If I needed money for my kids and someone offered it to me I would TAKE it....

It did get better though and I like how she finally! stood up for her self and her believes...

And Rafferty turned out to be such a sweetheart...

But a part of me thinks that the two year old talked very well, to well I mean he was two... and he was turnin...more

I never used to read these romance-y type books, but the more I read them the more I enjoy them. They really are just a lot of fun. Yes, they are predictable, and there's not a lot there except for a love story, but sometimes that escape is just what you need.

If you're looking for fun and cute this one really has all the ingredients. First it's a Christmas story, although I may have wanted it to be a bit more Christmas-y. The title still makes complete sense, but I was hoping for something to re...more

I was pretty shocked to finally get into Lissette's head after meeting her in the previous books. Her life with Jake was nothing like it seemed, but I guess that was the point. It was kind of funny, but I was actually pretty proud of Lissy for learning to stand up for herself. I know she is imaginary, but still. I loved seeing Rafferty with Kyle. He was such a strong, steady influence and exactly what Lissy and Kyle needed. It was hard to find much good in Jake, but I did try to like him. Overal...more

Can't help but love me some Rafferty Jones...oh baby!! This book should come with a warning label, "Will Fall For Hero".

Lori Wilde does it AGAIN!! She always manages to grab my heart and play with it for a while, taunting and teasing, and then she gives it back whole again...I don't know if I can take it anymore. I loved the first two books in the Jubilee, Texas series, but I think A COWBOY FOR CHRISTMAS has some stiff competition for them...no pun intended...hee hee!

I simply adored this book fr...more

This is the third book in Wilde’s Jubilee, Texas series. Jubilee itself is more background in this one. It is a place where Lisette has found friends and created a home and a place where Rafferty immediately feels as if he belongs, but the focus is on the building relationship between these two characters. Rafferty is almost perfect. His childhood with an absent father and a bipolar mother who lacks the capacity to parent her children leaves him with scars but also with great strength...more

This story is full of inner turmoil and conflicting emotions about what is right and wrong. Should they get together since Rafferty is her dead husband’s half-brother? How will her mother-in-law take the news? Is it just convenient? Is it really love?

I really like how the author worked through all of these problems. I wish she would’ve included more towards the end instead of putting a two week gap between the last chapter and the epilogue. I really think that Lissy and Rafferty deserved their...more

I love the Jubilee Texas Series and I have to admit I’m a little sad this is the final book in the series. However, this is a REALLY nice way to end the series. I’m a fan of Lori Wilde’s and I just wanted to read this book. I didn’t really know what it was actually all about. Sure, I knew it was a Christmas story featuring Lissette but that was about it.

I’m a series reader. I didn’t discover Ms. Wilde until a little...more

Truly apropos that I finished this book on Christmas Day. I loved this story. Lori Wilde is one of my favorite writers. Her stories are sweet and heartwarming.

Her hero in A Cowboy for Christmas is Rafferty Jones. He is definitely one of the best heroes she has written. He ranks up there with Jesse Calloway from The Sweethearts' Knitting Club (a Twilight, Texas story - the first if my memory is correct.)Lori has a wonderful talent of writing strong characters who tug at our hearts. Refferty rise...more

A Cowboy for Christmas was my favorite book of this trilogy. Because I enjoyed it so much, I'm sad to say good-bye to Jubilee, Texas.

Lissette Moncrief is a woman at the end of her rope. Her husband, whom she didn't want to return to Iraq, was killed, their child has recently been diagnosed with degenerative hearing loss, and Lissette has about $1,000 in the bank. When she accidentally hits a pick-up truck in the grocery store parking lot, she looses control, rightfully so. What she doe...more

The last thing on Lissette's mind is the holiday's. She got devastating news from the doctor about her son and she has NO idea how she'll afford everything her son will soon require, her husband isn't around to help, she needs to expand her business, and on top of that, she receives yet another shock (not telling....no spoilers here!). How much can one woman handle?

Rafferty wants to get into Jubilee, do what he has to do, and get right back out. No one and nothing has eve...more

You know a book is going to be good when you are not done reading the first chapter and there are tears streaming down your face. If an author can make you feel something so deep with just a few words, then you are reading one amazing and touching story.

This story is about two people from two very different backgrounds and who have both endured very rough trials in their life. Lisette is a widow still trying to overcome her husband’s death when their son is diagnosed as being deaf. Rafferty has...more

This is the first book by this author that I have read and I really loved it. The characters were people I liked getting to know. I feel I know where Lissy was coming from with her son. I have a son who has a hearing loss and I know about the guilt that she was feeling. There is nothing you can do about it but still a mom feels the guilt. This story seemed very true to life and not perfect like some books I've read by other authors. Great book.

This is a wonderful read for the holidays. You meet Lissette in The Cowboy Takes A Bride and you realize no all is as it seems. Through the next next book you get even more insight into her life. So when we get to A Cowboy For Christmas you are dying for the full story. This is a great story about rising above and second chances.

Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.

She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later dis...more
