The long-awaited memoir from one of daytime television's most celebrated and beloved actresses.

Three or four days a week, Jeanne Cooper drives from her Hollywood Hills home to the job she's held for more than three decades: bringing life to the character of Katherine Chancellor, the outspoken, powerful, and insanely wealthy force of nature who, along with Jeanne herself, h...more

This was a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I sort of got addicted to watching "The Young and the Restless" (as well as its sister-show "The Bold and the Beautiful") while growing up. My mother was an avid fan, and that meant getting a chance to watch the episodes each night as she watched them on VHS while I did my homework. That means I have been hanging out in Genoa City and with some of these characters for something like 30 years, which is most of the show's 40-year existance.

This mediocre memoir is not the tell-all the author claims: it is mostly repeated praise for family members and co-workers, with few details about some of her interesting life experiences. On the first page of chapter one Cooper claims she will be unlike other autobiographies, saying, "I intend on sharing it all," but the book is all downhill from there.

She spends most of the first fourth of the book slamming her husband and revealing how clueless she was in allowing him to trample all over her....more

This is Jeanne Cooper's memoir. If you watch the CBS soap operas, you know her as Katherine Chancellor on The Young and the Restless (hence the title). I personally don't watch soap operas but my mom always had them on when I was younger (her work schedule was arranged so that she would be home when I got off school, and if she's home, the TV is on) and she would tape Y&R, The Bold and the Beautiful, As the World Turns and especially her beloved Guiding Light. So while I never watched them (...more

From her early childhood years in Taft, CA, to her teens in Stockton, CA, the road to Hollywood took some circuitous turns for Wilma Jeanne Cooper. In her memoir "Not Young, Still Restless: A Memoir," she describes her family life in some detail. With a father who worked the oil fields and a mother who religiously attended a church with many rules and regulations, but who changed significantly in the years before her death when Jeanne was just a teenager, Jeanne could have felt neglected. But sh...more

Not Young, Still Restless by Jeanne Cooper and Lindsay Harrison is a great memoir for the fans of The Young and the Restless soap opera and Katherine Chancellor. She was born in 1928 to part-Cherokee parents, and was the youngest of three children. My mother has watched the show since before I was born, and I remember the fateful episode in which Mrs. C. drove her husband off a cliff in a drunken stupor — I was one. Yes, this show has been in my life for a very long time.

Cooper infuses her memoi...more

As a years (and years) long fan of the Young and the Restless, I was excited when I heard Jeanne Cooper, aka Katherine Chancellor, had written her memoirs. This book is a humorous, yet touching look at the life of the 84 year old actress who has become so much a part of the lives of millions of devoted soap fans around the world. From her birth in the late 20's to her blossoming acting career, her disasterous marriage to Harry Bernson, to the birth of her three children (including Corbin Bernson...more

This book is a definite must-read for any Y&R fan, but Jeanne Cooper also offers some wonderful thoughts on various aspects of life.

A couple of my favorite passages were:

"Here's my theory about what happens when we women meet someone to whom we're too attracted for our own good: I don't think it's a matter of not noticing the red flags that signify this relationship is not a good idea. I think we notice them and, because those red flags don't mesh with what we think we want, we come up with...more

Reading this book is like reading the autobiography of an old friend and hearing gossip about mutual acquaintances. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I watch "The Young and Restless" though I watch it nowhere near as often as I used to. Kay Chancellor has been on since the very start so she knows what she is talking about. It's interesting to hear what she has to say about her fellow castmates, the producers, who is friends with who in the real world, what goes on backstage and all other things...more

I have been watching "The Young and the Restless" for over 20 years and Katherine Chancellor is one of my favorite characters. When I heard she had finally written her memoirs, I was so excited to learn more about this amazing woman and actress. She didn't disappoint. She's fascinating, funny, fierce and determined. And more than anything she loves her family. She is an amazing woman and I'm so glad she wrote this. Of course, my favorite chapter was the one where she talked about everyone on Y&R....more

I was a little disappointed in this book. After all the years she has been on the show I would have thought more would be about her relationships with her co-stars and yes, a little more "gossipy". Using the young and restless title, I think it should have been more about the soap and far more in-depth. Ms. Cooper spends a great deal of time talking about her ex-husband, which I guess if it was to tell her readers that this was a great man, it would have been more tolerable for me. But it's the...more

Jeanne Cooper has done a wonderful job sharing her life story. I 1st started watching Y&R from its beginning. The Katherine/Jill stuff always got me laughing. Cooper proves her love of acting in the long run of this soap. I don't watch it any more, but I remember the classic episodes & story lines, esp. when Cooper played the dual roles of Katherine/Marge. It did me good to read about her real life, love of family and personal need to pay it forward. A life well lived!

Okay so I wouldn't rate this a 4 for being deep, enriching or life changing. However, if you're a Young & the Restless fan, it easily rates a 4 or higher, for the back stories, gossip and soap related shenanigans that she spills. But more than that, Jeanne's beginnings and life are also the stuff of novels. With this book you get a glimpse of what it was like breaking into the business of old Hollywood. Fascinating stuff!

2.5 stars. The good: I enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Y&R as well as getting the scoop on the relationships between the various actors on the show (one in particular was quite shocking). The not so good: At times I tired of the author’s name dropping. Several times she refers to gossip but then doesn’t go into more detail. So why mention it at all?

I READ THIS BOOK FROM COVER TO COVER & COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. AN EXCELLENT READ, WELL WRITTEN & VERY INFORMATIVE. FOUND OUT THINGS I DIDN'T KNOW & THINGS I DID KNOW.....WONDERFUL IN DEPTH OF HER LIFE.

ANYBODY WHO WATCHES Y&R OR DOESN'T WILL BE AMAZED TO READ ABOUT THE
LIFE OF JEANNE COOPER (CATHERINE CHANCELLOR).....AN AMAZING ACTRESS!

Loved it. Especially the chapter where Jeanne talked about her relationships with co-stars - Ester tried to have Mrs. C killed off? What? It was sad reading a memoir a little over 6 months after it was published and knowing that Jeanne Cooper died a couple weeks ago - especially when she talked about everything she still wanted to accomplish. Not amazingly written but still really fun to read.

Jeanne Cooper of The Young & Restless talks about her career. Her life a bit but mostly career and co-stars. Its a fairly superficial visit to her life. I felt she was holding her tongue quite a bit. She relates how more than a few people broke off friendships with her and she didn't know why--it makes me curious about who she **really** is--

Enjoyed reading Jeanne Cooper's memoirs. Have watched her on & off for years on Y & R. I love her down to earth tell it like you see it life style. I found myself relating to her in so many ways. My mother shares the same name, Wilma Jeanne, my brother &I are about the same age as her two sons. Her compassion for charity work, children & animals .

Thank you Jeanne Cooper for writing this autobiography! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! What a super-fantastic lady you are! This book was well-written, humorous, interesting and I couldn't put it down. Jeanne Cooper is an inspiration to women everywhere! What else can I say? I recommend this book to everyone, even if you are not a soap opera fan!

I've never watched Y&R but knew Jeanne Cooper was on the show. I wanted to read her book because I remember her from some of my favorite old shows, including The Big Valley.

I was surprised at some of the actors who she slept with and loved that she kissed & told!

I'm sure I would have rated this book higher if I was (were?) a Y&R fan. Still, I enjoyed it.

This was a fun read. Written very well. I've enjoyed alternating between her real life story which is like a soap opera and her soap character, Katherine Chancellor. I love how authentic she is in her personal life, her brutal honesty and she says it how it really is. Great escape!

I worked as a PA on The Young & the Restless back in the mid-70s, so I used to know the lovely Jeanne Cooper. But that's so far in the past I no longer know anyone in the cast except for her, so to me it was just another Hollywood bio.

I breezed through this honest, insightful funny memoir in about 3 hours. I have watched Y&R since I was a kid, and only realized that Jeanne Cooper had written a memoir after she passed. I will miss her antics on Y&R.

I really enjoyed Mrs. Cooper's story. she is a passionate caring strong woman. so likeable and takes crap from no one. Loving mother and grandmother...so proud of her family. by the end I just wanted to call her up and meet for coffee...and talk about soaps!
Lori
Feeling the need for a light hearted read, this was a fast one to get through.
Jeanne Cooper does a wonderful job of telling her life story and she has had an amazing one. Keep up the good work, 'Mrs. Chancellor'.

Dear Jeanne Cooper, I wish that we were friends. You're loyal, fierce, and definitely talented. Since you live in California, and, well, I don't, I will just keep watching you on Y&R. You're a good broad. Cheers.

Reading this book made me feel like she was sitting next to me, sharing her life! I only wished I had read it before she died. I spent nearly 30 years of my life with her Monday through Friday, for one hour! Miss and love you Mrs. C!
Kathy
I've watched the Young & the Restless since 1975 off & on - Jeanne is the regal Katherine Chancellor - enjoyed her memoir... wonder how much longer they will continue her great role!

I really enjoyed this book being a young and the restless viewer for many years but the only complaint I had about the book is that it was too short! Jeanne Cooper is a very funny and witty woman and I would have loved to read more about her
Teresa
A great read for Jeanne Cooper/Young and the Restless fans! She has led an interesting life--a tough cookie who is still vital and beautiful in her 80's.
Mysia
At age 83, Jeanne Cooper (aka Katherine Chancellor) is still a force to reckon with--and a true inspiration! A feisty, fun, fearless, and heartfelt memoir.
