Brother Bear finds himself on the wrong side of a class prank when his class has a long term substitute. Brother Bear expects it to be small pranks like organized pencil dropping and other silly things. The gang has worse things in mind; they want to "break" the substitute.

The Berenstain Bears Accept No Substitutes has two important messages: being respectful to strangers and resisting peer pressure. The story is a little heavy handed at times but it still has the usual Berenstain charm. The Bea

The kids receive a mild-mannered substitute teacher who becomes a natural target for the class troublemakers. At first this is, naturally, Too-Tall and his gang, but eventually Brother and his friends get caught up in the “fun” against their better judgement and the warnings of Sister Bear.

Interesting well-written, even if some of the names make no real sense (Cousin Fred, for example). And Barry Bruin is apparently Lizzy Bruin’s older brother---even though previous books describe Lizzy as an on
