Alexandra Scott, Alaskan Wilderness Woman. It had a terrific ring to it, but Alex felt a sudden twinge of uncertainty. She'd traded in her Wall Street job and fancy condo for a rundown cabin in the woods and a bait & tackle store. She'd wanted to escape the rat race and to go husband-hunting where men outnumbered women four to one, but was she ready for the challenge?

This was a 200 page lobotomy.

I hate to be such a hater, but it literally made my head hurt, it was that ridiculously banal and trite. I am a huge sucker for the formulaic romance and enjoy the old over-the-top fun romp, but there has to be some emotional investment in the characters for me to give a damn, and this made no effort to provide anything resembling depth. In fact, this little book seemingly reveled in sloshing through the shallowest end of the intelligence pool.

The dialogue and inner...more

I think I will read this book every winter - the deep freeze of the Upper Peninsula isn't anything as bad as a New York City girl moving to New York!

Alex (why does she have to have a GUY'S name?) is a Janet Evanovich character with lots of sass. She leaves her big city for the wilds of Alaska, moving to a cabin and hardware store that she has bought sight-unseen. On the way there, as their ship is docking, her dog leaps into the freezing water, she jumps in after him, and a man goes in to rescu...more

This was a nice little nugget of Evanovich to help tide me over til the next Plum novel hits stores. Its heroine is one of her typical, quirky women from New Jersey, but Alexandra Scott was a successful executive who got tired of the rat race and chucked it all to move to Alaska and run a hardware store. The cabin she traded for a Princeton condo is so rustic as to lack electricity, heat, or plumbing, and the store that was part of the bargain isn’t much better.

One of her prime objectives for mo...more

Making the decision to completely change her life in the hopes of finding a husband and starting a family, Alexandra Scott took an impulsive leap of faith and traded homes with Harry Kowalski, an interesting old man that had his own reasons for wanting a change in his life. Leaving New Jersey and her corporate job behind and setting out for Alaska to a site-unseen home and business seemed crazy to everyone especially her new neighbor Michael Casey who had his own reasons for wanting her to go ho...more

OK, I'm not much of a romance novel fan, but I have to read the ones by Janet Evanovich just because I read ANYTHING by Janet Evanovich, one of my favorite authors. Unfortunately, her earlier novels don't show the same wit that she subsequently developed when writing the Stephanie Plum series. That's okay though because sometimes you just need to eat Pop Tarts, know what I mean? This book has the same plot that every romance novel seems to have: incredible attraction between two hot and sexy pro...more

Alex trades her mortgaged condo in NY for a cabin in the woods and a hardware store in Alaska. She loads up her little car with the dog her uncle left her and sets off to find a husband in the wilderness. Alaska, after all has more men than women! On the ferry she accidently loses the dog overboard when he is chasing a donut off the gang plank, then she jumps in to save him. They both are rescued by a handsome hunk but she has to get back on the ferry before it sails and doesn't get to thank him...more

On the spur of the moment, successful NY stockbroker Alexandra Scott swaps her $400,000 condo for a shack and tackle shop in Alaska to find a husband. Yes she ups and moves because the man-to-woman ratio is unbelievable. (I know this because I've thought of doing the same thing but common sense keeps stopping me.) Well our TSTL heroine seems to be lacking common sense. I found it hard to reconcile the powerful vice president with the woman who arrives in Alaska. I swear she must have stopped and...more

Ever felt like life was just moving to fast? That all you did was work? Maybe you biological clock was running out of time? Do you like witty romances? If so then you'll love this book!

Alexandra Scott is not anywhere near your topical alaskan wilderness woman, but this young business woman trades her high paying job and $400,000 condo for a shack in Alaska and s bait shop. She is going there to find her a husband. Someone boring but stable that she can have can have children and grow old with. B...more

Alexandra Scott trades her New Jersey condo for a cabin and a "hardware store" in Alaska. Sight unseen. Okay. That takes some guts and maybe a bit of insanity, but if you really need a change in life and you've got an adventurous spirit, I'll buy that one.

I can totally see how she could fall in love with Alaska. In a heartbeat. The one thing I did think Ms. Evanovich failed to mention, which surprises me, as I believe she has lived there, was the winter darkness, which really does throw most pe...more

Junk food in book form. So cliched and stilted in some instances that it made me laugh out loud- although I'm sure the humor wasn't intented.

Alexandra Scott has decided to change her life and find a husband. She traded homes with Harry Kowalksi, an Alaskan man that has decided to move to new Jersey to be closer to his family. So Alexandra has quit her corporate job and sets out for her newly traded Alaskan home and business that she's never seen. Her neighbor is Michael Casey who would tries to persuade her to return home because he can't have another broken heart.

This was another re-released romance. My favorite part of it was the...more

I enjoyed reading this book because it had a little bit of everything like love, humor, and much more. This book is about a young woman who trades her upscale city life and moves out into the wilderness in Alaska. The young woman makes this drastic change to live in the wilderness so that she can find a husband. Then the young woman meets her neighbor (who is a good looking guy)and helps her out. Then later on she accidenly burns her outhouse down and moves in with her neighbor...I WON'T SPOIL T...more

This is a good old fashioned romance in the vein of the Harlequin romance novels. It is told from both his and her point of view, so you never wonder about the relationship, what it is or where it is going - only how will these two screw it all up. Very easy and quick to read. So if you're looking for something to read before bed, this will give you something nice to dream about. After all, who wouldn't want to be Alexandra and who wouldn't want to find Casey. No graphic sex, just fade to black...more

Manhunt by Janet Evanovich had me smiling the whole time I was reading. I just love her! Her characters are quirky and strong willed. Alexandra Scott drops her current life as a successful executive in New Jersey on a whim and trades her home for a "cabin" and hardware store in Alaska sight unseen, trudging cross country with a senior Rottweiler with an eating fetish that gets him in a bit of trouble. Namely flying overboard after a donut. "Mic...more

I liked this book a lot more than I should have. It was about as steamy as Twilight in the sex department, which means not at all. But it was a fun and carefree read. The good thing was it was so light and non-descriptive in the intimate scenes that I could listen to it on audio cd at work. The bad thing was also the non descriptive romance scenes, lol. "She felt a poweful passion for him stirring,......Afterwards, blah blah blah. Exscuse me, you forgot the middle of that paragraph! Where's the...more

I was very pleasantly surprised about this book. I was looking to branch out and try reading some adult contemporary. I was a little concerned at first because I was afraid it was just female porn like one of those steamy romance novels but I got into FAST. Alexandra's character was so cute and it made me think about one day just re-vamping my entire life. I enjoyed the blossoming romance between her and Michael Casey!! SUPER CUTE

I listened to the audio version.

This was pretty much just a fluffy romantic piece. If that is what you are in the mood for, then you will enjoy this. Written with amazingly few characters and without Janet Evanovich's usual hilarity. It is easy to listen to in the car - no concentration needed. The voice chosen for the woman made her sound like a dimwit, rather that the vice president of a company, which she was in the story.

I can't believe I waited weeks for this to be available to borrow. It was predictable practically from the first page (okay, maybe page five), completely uninteresting and altogether flat. The "romance" sections are about the appropriate level for a G-rated cartoon--they kissed and woke up with each other...yeah, that's hot. Just altogether a waste of time. The only positive--it was only about 100 pages on my ereader, so ended quickly.

Just for a little change of pace...this one was cute. Sweet little love/hate/love story. In my mind, it almost put me in place of the short lived television series Men in Trees....not sure if they have any connection...hmmm? I will say that I felt it was lacking a little in detail during the event transitions, making it feel a little choppy in parts - but, all in all I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this book, reading it in one afternoon. I found the story to be engaging--if not a little predictable--and loved the characters. Evanovich delivered on this light romance.

Alex trades her New Jersey condo for a cabin in the Alaskan woods and hardware store. She doesn't know what's she's in for when she arrives, but true to Evanovich's style, there is a handsome and willing neighbor at her beckon call. Of course, also true to Evanovich's M.O, the cute neighbor has his own baggage...more

Alex wants to leave her hectic life in New York behind so she makes a trade with an old man, her condo for his rustic house in the Alaska wilderness. Alex plans on living the simple life, getting married and relaxing. Once in Alaska, she relizes that the rustic house is more like a shack so with the help of her handsome neighbor she tries to turn lemons into lemonade. Typical Evanovish fluff with romance, hijinks and love at first sight. A great beach read for romance-lite readers.

Romance. Nothing like the plum series. I really liked this book. I'm not much into the romance type books but this books great. The way Janet writes makes u want to read it and makes you feel like your there, in the character feeling what she does. Leaves you wanting m ore. I reccommend this book.good on a winters nights all cuddledup by the firep place or in bed reading.

If you liked her other stand alone books, then you'll like this one too! They are great fast easy reads, all with interesting and lovable characters.

I liked the concept of city girl trying to rough it in Alaska, and enjoyed all her conflict with her morals and her need for coffee and a hot shower. It wasn't laugh out loud funny, but it gave me a lot of smiles.

`Manhunt' by Janet Evanovich is a quick amusing romantic treat. Alex leaves her high stressed job to find a husband and new life in Alaska. She finds handsome confirmed bachelor Casey who turns out to be Mr. Right or Mr. Right now? This novel keeps a smile on your face and you will enjoy every funny adventure.

Another great sappy romance! Tough, yet educated, woman that isn't afraid to have an adventure of her own in Alaska. If you are looking for a deep thought provoking book, this isn't it. If you have some time off and want a nice happy romance with a great leading female and happy ending, this is the one!

Really stupid, but funny and cute and I enjoyed it. I listened to it on audio and the reader was good and enhanced the story. You don't read Evanovich for literature, but it was good escapism. I listen in the car on my commute, but would have also been happy with this book on the beach.

Cute story and great for a change of pace. It reminded me a lot of the tv show "Men in Trees" and I kind of wondered if the show was based a little on this. It worked out well for me to have something to occupy my mind with other than the morons on the road during my commute to work.

Alexandra leaves the city to move to Alaska and get back in touch with nature. She learns the hard way how to do some basic tasks with snow is a lot harder. She meets her neighbor Michael who she has an instant connection with. This book is a quick read and very funny!

Career woman trades her sexy condo for a rustic log cabin and hard wood store in Alaska - in hopes of finding herself a real man/husband. She soon meets her new Alaskian neighbor - and is in for more than she can bargain for.
