Light, with the help of his fairy godfather Ryuk, has found a way to defeat L.

((For a larger version: http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/i/201...))

Light Yagami, what a guy. Not only does he have flawless hair, sparkly chips, an epic soundtrack, but he can also write with both hands -- at the same time!

How is L going to defeat a man like him? Huh? HUH?

I was kinda hoping I would only get a few books into this series and get bored...as I do with pretty much all series books, since most sequels are totally worthless compared to the originals in my mind. This volume was AMAZING. L starts to really shine in this volume and Ryuk's character gets fleshed out in such a subtle way (wait can he even get "fleshed out" since he's a death demon?) So smart, so surprisingly funny at points, and with such an ending! My jaw was on the floor for like twenty mi...more

This book is mostly about a smart boy name Light Yagami is so boring of his life, because is do not have anything to interesting him. Than he accident grab a book with the title write "DEATH NOTE" was got drop by dead god, name Ryuk. He figure this out in the back of the book, it's have some rule :"Write the name of the person you want to kill and the thing make him die, after 1 minute, that person will die. You must to know that person face and name, if you don't write the thing make that perso...more

Wow! This is the third time I've read Death Note, and I still find the dynamic between L and Light completely exhilarating! They are like a perfect match set, two sides of the same coin, and their minds work in such perfect tandem. I was particularly enthralled during the tennis match, even though it was nothing but a back and forth, it was like they were reading each others minds, or operating on a higher mental plane than the rest of the world. I think a big part of the intensity of Death Note...more

Coming highly recommended by my comic book artist friend Justin “Moritat” Norman, and lent to me as a matter of fact, Ohba and Obata’s manga Deathnote is centered on a creepy premise that you know can only end very badly by series’ end. That is, one of the Japanese Shinigami – or “Death Gods” – loses its deathnote, a book of fate on which the name of any intended victim can be written, that is picked up and used for horrific effect by high school prodigy Light Shigami.

Volume Three is a bit of a...more

Zzzzzzzz ... *snort* Huh? Wha-? What happened? Oh right. Nothing ! A whole lotta nuthin'!

Okay, to be fair, my review may be slightly biased since I was tremendously exhausted while reading this. However, I have read other mangas that have managed to entertain me no matter how tired I am. Yet, Death Note, Vol. 3: Hard Run cured me of my insomnia each time I tried to pick it up to read. It felt like it took ages to finish it.

Most of this volume shows a long-winded battle of wits between Light and...more

After the intensity of "Confluence," I wasn't sure how it could be followed up. "Hard Run" ends up being even more tense and interesting that Volume 2.

At the center of this volume is the face-to-face meeting of Light and L. When it first happened, I was worried that the series was allowing it to occur too early in the overall arc, but my worries were quickly silenced by the fantastic mind-games that occur between the two characters. I won't give anything away, but both Light and L say and do ver...more

WOW, the suspense in this manga is awesome! Every little scene is important, there are no fillers. I admire L and Light very much, although both of them look insane... insane in a genius way. I cannot take side, although I know Light is the bad guy in the story, especially now that he starts to kill not only criminals, but also cops.

The whole chapter about the hidden cameras was amazing. Light is really a genius, pretending to study when he was actually killing! At least this time he had Ryuk b...more

This volume couldn’t be more action packed then what’s been drawn and written on those 193 pages, the whole encounter, sends both thrills and shivers up my entire body! Its totally amazing!

Oh bonus for me; as tennis being my all time favourite sport, this intense match really takes the sport to a whole new dimension lol, you just have to love it. I have found myself to think pretty strong thoughts on how to read my opponent etc... :) but in this! my god its been taken to a new level lol

Volume 3 of the very popular Death Note series focuses mainly on the continuing rivalry between Light and L, as L infiltrates Light's school in an attempt to get a confession out of him. Another 'Kira' shows up mysterious through the presentation of a video, hinting at a new ally for Light.

So this is sort of where things started to become a bit meh for me. I enjoyed the introduction to the new Kira, but wasn't that much interesting in the Light/L battle of wits scenes. I personally don't care fo...more

Light noticed immediately that their were bugs and cameras hidden in the house because all of his safety pre-caution tools were broken and he decided to make his shingami find where all of the cameras were in his house(because he's invisible to everybody except him) while he act like an ordinary smart teen that's studying for college. He secretly kills criminals by writing their names down the death note when he digs his hands into a bag of potato chips so it won't make L suspicious that nobody...more

It's hard to rate a series that's told in such comparatively short chunks... I gave this four because it wasn't as hard-hitting as the past instalments, but it's only to be expected that there'll be occassional lulls.

It was interesting for Light and L to finally come face to face, spend time bucking heads and attempting to out-wit each other. You really do get the impression they are two geniuses locked in this crazy psychological battle, each playing several different roles in an attempt to out...more

Death Note 3 was continuing from the others in the series. in this volume Light finds out the identity of L but cant kill him because L thinks he's Kira, killing him will confirm his allegation. light's father has a heart attack and is recovering in the hospital. near the end they find out that there is an impostor impersonating Kira and killing innocent people.

The reason i picked up this book is beacause i finished the last one in the series and i needed something to read over the march-break....more

This volume picks up where the previous one left off, with Light under scrutiny. I actually found it to be a lot more predictable plot-wise than the previous volumes, which was a bit disappointing. Still, it's a great story with interesting characters!

Light hides a LCD Mini Television in a bag of chips to see criminals while he writes their names acting as if he is studying. L decides to remove the cameras, but remains surprised with Light's acting. Some time later, Light enters into the Toho University, where he meets L, who reveals his own identity in order to study Light's reactions. After playing a tennis match, L reveals to Light he suspects he is Kira, forcing him to ally with him to prove he is innocent. Soon the channel Sakura TV air...more

The game of wits between Light Yagami and L heats up in the third volume of Death Note. I've only read a few manga books, but this one is definitely near the top of my list. Both Light and L are well written and likable. So much so that I found myself rooting for both throughout the book as each tries to figure out what the other is doing and how much is truth as opposed to fiction. I was a little disappointed that Ryuk took a back seat in this book to the mental battles played out between Light...more

Death Note (デスノート, Desu Nōto?) is a Japanese manga series created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata. The series centers on Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook, the titular "Death Note", dropped on Earth by a shinigami (death god) named Ryuk. The Death Note grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose face they have seen, by writing the victim's name in the notebook. The story follows Light's attempt to create and rule a world cleansed...more

this volume is one of my favorites out of the series.L or anyone else doesnt know Light is kira, but L shows himself to Light he even tells him his name.Someone else with the Death Note would probably already kill L, but Light is smart he knows that the name L gave him was fake and was the same name of a japanese famous singer.since he needs to have the image of the person while writing the name he could accedently kill the famous singer and L would find out that he was kira.but after L showing...more

Its good. Brilliantly written and thought out. I don't think I would ever use such a book - no matter the reason I could not take a life and in such a fashion. Light must be a sociapath to take life so casually. I wondered about that - people who would not use the notebook and I think part of it is in the taking of the book. Someone who finds a notebook and takes it. Not everyone who finds someone elses Notebook lying on the floor would take it in the first place. I know I would not. Makes you t...more

- There is another Kira killing off innocents now! They both need to be taken down!

- The feet shots of L are starting bug me. He has majorly long toes.

- L is closing in on Light, and it is getting suspenseful!!

- I think Light over thinks things sometimes. He is a bit paranoid.

- I'm SO curious to find out more about the 2nd Kira!!

- Naomi's name keeps coming up. Will they find her?

- The way L sits doesn't look too comfortable. I want to try it sometime. Maybe my deductive reasoning will improve.

Death Note books 3-12
The first few books of Death Note are by far the best Manga books I’ve ever read. The structure of these amazing Manga happen to be the best I’ve witnessed. The art Takeshi Obata did was very intricate and intriguing. It never failed to amaze me how detailed his talent at drawing could get. He did a great job at imagining and drawing up the Shinigami world, and the Shinigami themselves.
What I liked most about this series were the surprises Tsugumi Ohba came up with for the...more

This review contains spoilers for the first two volumes of Death Note, plus the third one, of which I'm reviewing here. Don't read this review unless you want to know what happens before you read it.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

This is the best volume so far! If Death Note had been moving along at a sort of slow pace up until now, that's all changed. So many exciting things happened, I was laughing my head off in some parts and freaking out during others. It goes to show you that it really is a high drama—ve...more

Tsugumi Ohba (大場 つぐみ Ōba Tsugumi?, born in Tokyo, Japan) is a writer best known for the manga Death Note. His real identity is a closely guarded secret. As stated by the profile placed at the beginning of each Death Note manga, Ohba collects teacups and develops manga plots while holding his knees on a chair, similar to a habit of L, one of the main characters of the series.

There is speculation th...more

“Kira is evil ... There's no denying that ... But lately I've been starting to think of it more like this ... The real evil is the power to kill people. Someone who finds himself with that power is cursed. No matter how you use it, anything obtained by killing people can never bring true happiness.” 6 people liked it
