Recommends it for: historians, people interested in Africa
This is a great book if you like reading academic fare and you're interested in the history of missionaries in Africa. Last night, as I was reading about the ways that romantics have linked the landscape to ideas about spirituality and patriotism, I remembered (with some shame) an essay I wrote that clearly uses romantic ideals to talk about how the desert in El Paso creates individual characteristics--example, the harsh climate creates a certain grace and forgiveness for others.
