The Cosmic Purr: Poems by Aaron Poochigian is a debut collection of poems that Poochigian fills with metrical verse and a portion that readily emotes a translation of the classics.

While Poochigian’s writing is extravagant with language and uses a few wonderful and stark lines of simile or imagery as in lines such as:

I'm surprised more of Poochigian's fans haven't spoken up on here yet. I thought 'Cosmic Purr' was brilliant. Poochigian's sense of rhythm and the joy he finds in the beauty of language shines through in every line.

Several poems in particular stood out to me, though I'll just talk about one of my favorites here for the sake of brevity. In Medusa, Poochigian speaks about the title character's life and feelings with an almost hallucinatory vividness that makes her compelling and likable. Who hasn'...more

There is no question that Aaron Poochigian is a wonderful poet. His talent is obvious in each line of each poem. Poochigian poetry collection has a Greek Mythology section I thought I would enjoy. Medusa had a nice sound to it as well as Metamorphic
A major translator from classical Greek. Aaron takes on some poems and fragments from Sappho and adds his own poetic sense of elegance.

Overall this was not a poetry book to my strong liking. But was glad to have a chance to read this collection.

I was really impressed with the style of writing that the author portrays in this book. His knowledge of the subject, concise wording and varying structure make this a delightful book to read. I thoroughly enjoyed delving into this book and was transported into another world numerous times. This is definitely one of those books that you cannot say "Oh, I'm going to read just one poem and then head off to bed". It just doesn't work that way! I recommend this book to everyone, even if you're not a...more
