Dear Ms. Ernst,
Once upon a time, in a seedy bar, many years ago, I met a man, fell for him on the spot, married him, and decades later count myself lucky to have and hold him as my own. And yet, as I read your book, the wonderfulA Different Kind of Forever, I found myself wondering, what if my life had turned out differently. What if I were divorced, trying to raise my kids as a single mom, loving my work, surrounded by great friends, but, romantically, sexually, alone? If I were, if I had that...more

A Different Kind Of Forever is a story about a divorced mother of three facing the ups and downs that come with having a relationship with a man much younger than she is. I like the start of the relationship, it’s sweet and funny and had me hooked at the end of chapter two. Diane is almost twenty years older than Michael and that is the couples main issue throughout the book. Michael is completely fine with the age difference but...more

Diane Matthews is a forty-five year old divorced mother of three. He life is filled with her work and family and she is very happy with that. That is until she meets Michael Flynn Carlucci a twenty-six year old member of a boy band. When they meet sparks fly and continue to do so throughout the book.
I really loved Michael. He was so sweet, thoughtful and giving that he was much more mature than most twenty-six year olds. He has been around the music scene since he was sixteen so there is not mu...more

Dee Ernst –A Different Kind of Forever
This is a story of an almost impossible love; if we are to believe today's headlines. A woman nearly 20 years the man senior, a socioeconomic difference that is astonishing, to add to the confusion Ms Ernst throws in Diane's one true love (or at least what Diane thought was her one love) .
This book is not written as a ‘fairy tale’ dream come true, younger man/older woman fantasy. This book is actually a deeper look into the practicalities of how one woul...more

I really enjoyed this and given that I've been in a relationship with a much younger man for 7 years I'm probably qualified to comment that it's pretty accurate and funny.
The writing style was fast and easy, the characters well rounded and the secondary characters added nicely to the enjoyment.
I'm not sure what happened about 80% into the book but it felt like the author completely lost sight of the fact that she was writing a romance.

This was my first May/December romance featuring a younger man with an older woman. The theme is not as common as older man/younger woman, because for some reason society has decided to act favorably toward one of these and frown upon the other. I, for one, found the story to be refreshing and real. I didn't see anything wrong with the romance here between a forty-something and a twenty-something. It was a different kind of story than what I usually read but I was thoroughly engrossed, and was a...more

Diane is on the verge of pulling her hair out as her teenage daughters have been obsessing over a radio give away for free tickets to the concert of NinetySeven, the famous boy band who are scheduled to end their tour in their home town. Soon Diane becomes the coolest mom ever to live as she runs into Michael Carlucci the songwriter and gorgeous youngest member of NinetySeven when Diane is taking a much needed lunch break and his dog comes bounding at her i...more

I read the first few lines of this book and thought the main character was a college student and suddenly she began aging with every line. I was left wondering, just how old is she exactly? And when I did find out, I was a little more than just surprised. But age was a central theme in book, and so was unconventional love. Love that isn't necessarily normal or what'd you would expect at all, but that makes it all the more exciting and interesting. It was fun watching Diane and Michael's relation...more
I won this book from a First Reads Giveaway. I really liked this book. It was a very easy read and all the characters really jumped off the pages and were easy to imagine in my head. The whole time I was reading this book I kept thinking how it would make a really good movie. There were parts in it that I didn't like but it was just because it didn't fit into the perfect romance story which after I thought about it I realized that that is what actually makes this book so great. It's one of those...more
Unreal but dream worthy anyway. Who wouldn't want a famous rock star to fall in love with her? LOL... One that would hide away from the fans and all the groupies away just for you? One that's much younger but doesn't care about age one bit? He's a musical genius, she's holds a doctorate in literature and writes a fabulous screen play. He has an enormous gorgeous house and sail boat. She has a quaint comfy house and beautiful and bright daughters. He has amazing sisters she has an amazing ex husb...more
I picked this one up after seeing a positive review of it at Dear Author . This is an older woman/younger man story - Diane is 45, divorced and a mother of 3 teenage girls. Michael "Mickey Flynn" Carlucci is 26 and a rock star - singer/songwriter, keyboard and guitar player in the band NinetySeven. Michael was all but raised by his older sisters and in Diane he has found someone who finally compares favourably with them - his womanly ideal.

I found this to be an easy and comfortable read but have to admit that while I enjoyed the book, it didn’t blow me away.
Diane was a lovely character, I got a feeling of homeliness from her and so I warmed to her pretty much straight away. An exciting encounter whilst trying to eat her sandwich for lunch led to a dreamy experience with a hot rock star called Michael – the two of them together were electric and I cou...more

I really liked the dialog in this book between the main characters but also between the friends and family members. It felt real and comfortable. The hero might be a famous musician but this felt like a story between two normal people.
My only niggle was the HFN...I just now realized what a wrap everything up in a shiny bow epilogue addict I must be. I was fine with the ending but I would have loved to glimpse a few years in the future to see how the relationship is working.

This was an easy poolside read without much substance, but was good to pass the time and didn't require too much attention. The storyline seemed a bit far-fetched, with the likelihood of any of the guys Michael's age being so in love with someone Diane's age in real life being slim, but it was entertaining.

Dee Ernst was born Elizabeth Diane Ascoli in Newark, NJ. Her family moved to Morristown, NJ when she was still a toddler. She started writing stories on a battered Royal typewriter when she was about ten or twelve, and she graduated Morristown High School determined to pursue a career as a writer in some form or another (she considered advertising, but luckily came to her senses).
