Interesting epic fantasy novel, with one of the most fascinating openings I've read: the general who lost the war of light against the darkness waking up after a thousand years of imprisonment in the desert, with flashbacks to the battle interspersed with his rescue, and how he tries to pick up his life and carry on. Everyone believes General Polas Kas Dorian is back to resume the fight against evil. They're wrong.

The fantasy world Caldwell creates in this piece is very original and feels authentic. This is a world with a history and a future! The characters are round, the dialogue believable, and the plot is unique. You will be rooting for Polas the entire time.
