When I requested this ebook on NetGalley, I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting, there was no description of the content. But it's Kelley Armstrong and the cover says two Otherworld stories. So, naturally, I assumed there would be two completely new Otherworld stories named The Hunter and The Hunted. Yeah, I was wrong.

But it's Kelley Armstrong and the cover says two Otherworld stories. So, naturally, I assumed there would be two completely new Otherworld stories named The Hunter and The Hunted. Yeah, I was wrong.

This e-special consists of:

1) Short story Stalked (about 20 pages) previously published in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. As a proper series fan, of course, I have already read it. It is the weakest of Clayton-narrated shorts, which takes place during Elena and Clay's honeymoon. Clayton discovers that they are being stalked by a rogue mutt and tries to take care of him without Elena's knowledge. There is nothing particularly special about this story. Just Elena and Clay's usual hi-jinks - changing, running and hunting. No twists, no turns, no mystery. It's a throwaway short story, and I would recommend reading Savage and Ascension in Men of the Otherworld and Beginnings in Tales of the Otherworld instead, if you want some juicy stories narrated by Clayton.

2) Short story Off-Duty Angel (also about 20 pages), completely new and narrated by Eve Levine. It was nice to revisit Eve. She is on a break from her angel duties and her man Kristof Nast recruits her to help him investigate the case he is currently working on. Generally, I like Armstrong's version of afterlife, it's kind of different and fun. As far as the mystery in this short goes, it is just so-so, unfortunately. It gets messy and convoluted in the end. It feels like Kelley had to cut it short.

3) First 6 chapters of the final book in the series - Thirteen. I did not read these chapters, because what would I do after finishing them? The book will be out in July!

All in all, The Hunter and The Hunted is an ok teaser, a reminder of Armstrong's writing. However, the pieces are not bound by any common theme and they are not connected to the final novel, so in the end this mesh-up is rather pointless. The stories are no more than 2-3 stars worth. Are they worth $1.99 on Amazon? Maybe. (less)

The Hunter and the Hunted are two short stories from Kelley Armstrong's the Otherworld series. Penguin also threw in the first seven chapters of Thirteen, and let me just say that I cannot wait for that book. I've had it pre-ordered for awhile now, but reading these first few chapters really sold me on it. I'm counting the days until it's released. The first story in this novella is a short story about Elena and Clay, told from Clay's perspective. I love when Clay narrates because he has such a unique perspective. It's always like I'm reading from a wolf's perspective instead of a man's. I love Elena as a narrator too, but it's always interesting to see Clay's take on things. "Stalked," the story, is a cute story about Elena and Clay's honeymoon. It was interesting to see how they interacted and how much they tried to stick to human ideals while on their honeymoon. I'm going to miss those two characters when the series ends.

"Off-Duty Angel" is told from Eve's perspective. It's also a cute story, and it was nice to get to know Eve better. Since she only had one book in the series, I don't feel like I know her as well as I know the other characters. She's not present as much as Jaime (who also only had one book) is. I feel like I know Eve more through reputation than through observing her behaviors, so I liked getting to see more of her. Both stories are only around 30 pages each and very light-hearted.

The teaser for Thirteen blew my mind. I was already wishing July 24 would hurry and get here, and now it's a billion times worse. The final book in the Otherworld series is shaping up to be an intense and emotional thrill-ride. I have a feeling I'll laugh, cry, and be on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. I'm literally counting the days until I can get my hands on this novel.

Overall, I'd recommend this novella to any Kelley Armstrong fan. If you're a fan of the Otherworld series, then you'll love getting more looks into the characters' lives. It's also a nice edition to the series because we get to hear from characters who usually don't get to narrate their own stories. If you haven't read the Otherworld series yet, then you're missing out. Start with Bitten, though. You'd be completely lost with this novella if you hadn't read the other books first. The Hunter and the Hunted is available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon in e-book format. This is a novella you'll want to add to your e-reader library.(less)

I think the cover best represents Stalked with the image of the wolf in the trees. Stalked is actually the first novella in this e-special. As a Kelley Armstrong fan I love anything at all with Clay and Elena in it. Even though I have read this novella before within My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon.

I would love to say that I have been a fan of Armstrong’s Otherworld series since the beginning. Sadly, however, that wouldn’t be true. I started reading the series with the books that introduced Paige and the other witches. I quickly become a fan and brought the other books. While I’m sad to see the series end, I am happy that Armstrong has enough sense to end it and resist the temptation to keep writing the series simply to make money. In some ways, Armstrong’s series belongs to the vast amount of “tough woman” urban fantasy; however, the Otherworld series stands out for several good reasons, and the series will be sorely missed. One of the best things about the series is Armstrong’s use of a different heroine every two or three books. Not only are the women different in terms of power, but they are different in terms of strength. Elena’s physical strength is matched by Paige’s strength of character and magical skill. Jamie’s ability to communicate with the dead takes a third type of strength, but she isn’t any less brave or any less of woman because she isn’t as physically strong or able to make fireworks. In a genre where the central character usually has a power and use of gun, it’s wonderful to see a series where the characters are different but equal. Another wonderful thing about the series is the fact that Armstrong ages her characters and ages them from book to book. Readers have seen Clay and Elena become parents; Paige and Lucas marry among other developments. Lastly, Armstrong has gone has a writer, and she is not afraid to experiment. It’s nice to see an author grow over the course of a series. In short, the Women of the Otherworld series is a cut above the rest of the genre.
This slim eBook contains two stories of the Otherworld as well as the first few chapters of Thirteen, the last book. The teaser chapters do their job well and if Thirteen delivers on their promise, it should be a good ending to a good series.

The first short story, “Stalked” appeared in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. This is quite clear from the start, so the eBook is NOT guilty of false advertising. It is always nice to read a story told from Clay’s point of view, especially when it features both Clay and Elena. What makes Clay such a good narrator is that he knows who he is and doesn’t care what you think about that? Instead of coming off as rude and mean, he comes off as rude but with reason and with a strong streak of humanity (though he wouldn’t like to be described thus). This is because he knows he isn’t perfect. He accepts his imperfections and deals with it. He doesn’t make an excuse. This stops him from being a “Marty Sue” or a “Macho Sue”. This story is no different, and are about two people trying to have a normal honeymoon. Of course, Armstrong being Armstrong she takes a simply concept that has been done to death by Lifetime the Channel of Women in danger and turns it on its head. Particularly refreshing is to read a story where husband wife are truly partners and truly in love, not the lust that seems so come in many books today. Yes, Elena and Clay lust for each other, but they love each other. Instead of telling this ad nausea and making the reader want to throw up because of the cuteness of it, Armstrong shows us and brings out a mature and loving relationship. It is also nice to see a married couple be active in a story that doesn’t involve one of them cheating on the other or having to hide from the mob. There’s tension, but not because the relationship is at risk.

The second story, “Off-Duty Angel” features everyone’s favorite demonic angel (or angelic demon) Eve who hasn’t given up working just because she’s dead. Like “Stalked”, the story does feature a couple that cares about and truly knows each other. There is less love and more action in this story than in the first (which features equal amounts of love and action). Armstrong takes a standard quest story and adds elements that make it funny as well as an interesting read.
Combining religion, Japanese myth, and Eve’s force of personality could make a mess of a story, but all parts are treated with respect. The human is more in the characterization not only of Eve, Kristof, and Trisel, but in the Fates and other creatures that they run into. I always thought moles were cute in a blind and furry way. Armstrong has made me rethink that conclusion.

In short, with these two short stories, Armstrong showcase what makes her series great – believable relationships, different types of strength, different types of people, and a sense of humor

STALKED was a story that I was familiar with. I am such a fan of Armstrong's work that I buy anthologies just for her stories. If you have My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon, you already own this story. What I liked most about it is that it is told by Clayton Danvers. It tells about a honeymoon trip that he planned to St. Louis, which seems an odd honeymoon destination for a couple of werewolves, and which is turning out to be less exciting than either of them had hoped. I love anything Otherworld related, including short stories and sneak peeks. There are two novellas and the first six chapters of "13" included in this ebook special. I'd never buy an ebook just to get a sneak peek at a story that's coming out soon, but I would spend $$ on anything Clay and Elena related! The first short story is a Clay and Elena story that was originally included in "My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon" and it's just as much fun this second time around. Okay... I didn't read the 13 preview, because I don't like to tease myself like that, so I'm mostly rating this as high as I am because THIS is what you are supposed to give your fans. Two short stories, once previously published and the other new. Both have an actual plot, even if they weren't ground breaking.

Stalked is a fun little tale starring the awesome Clay and Elena. I didn’t realise when I requested this for review that it was previously featured in an anthology, which meant I had read it before. This novella consists of two short stories plus a preview of the next book "Thirteen". The first, Stalked, has been published before but I hadn't read it. "Off Duty Angel" is new. "Stalked" was previously released as part of My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. I've read it before, but I enjoyed reading it again here.

"Stalked" is a Clay POV about his honeymoon with Elena. It's really important to him to get it just right. Elena didn't have the wedding of her dreams. Clay ruined that idea 18 years ago when he turned her into a werewolf. But, the honeymoon... he wants to make that perfect for her. Only, a mutt is stalking them. Clay tries to hide it from Elena, but that doesn't quite work out. The good news is... taking down the mutt together may be the highlight of their trip.

Clay and Elena are my favorite couple in the series. And I love hearing Clay's voice. He is a very simple man. He loves his wife. He lives to protect her, his family, and his pack. That's it. Here, he doesn't disappoint.

"Off Duty Angel" is an Eve short. It's very reminiscent of Angelic, in my opinion. We see Eve kind of stuck in the circumstances of her afterlife. Kind of bored. Still thumbing her nose at authority and playing by her own rules. Right now, Kris is in the middle of a big case and she has nothing to do with her downtime. So Kris sends her on a mission to play P.I. for him. The story is mostly action oriented and gives us very little time with Eve and Kris. I think I would have enjoyed an adventure that did more to incorporate them both, but I'm glad Eve got one last hurrah.

This novella also offers an extended peek inside the series finale book, 13. The first seven chapters are here, if you want to get a head start on your reading. 13 releases July 24.

I'm sad the series is ending, so I am happy to take every last story Armstrong has to offer. Just be aware that if you've already read "Stalked" and you are planning to buy 13, the only exclusive content you'll find here is Eve's 25 page short story.

Elena and Clay are on their honeymoon when Clay notices a mutt is stalking them, stalking Elena. He confronts him and discovers his reputation is no longer what it used to be (he and Elena discuss this in a later book, I think it might be Hidden) and this mutt isn't scared off by the confrontation. Determined to keep the mutt a secret from Elena he tries to trap him, only to realise that Elena knew about him all along. So they team up and do what they do best ~ scare him off (with a little killing).
I do love Clay as a narrator, he always comes across as so stand offish in other books that it's great to read from his perspective every once in a while. This story brings Clay's worries as a father and husband to the front, his injured arm being his main worry but also the fact that his big scare tactic was almost 30 years ago and the newer generations don't believe thee story so they're just not as scared. As I said, I had already read this but since I didn't actually own the book I hadn't had a chance to re-read it.

Off-Duty Angel is the new short story prequel to 13, it has one of my favourite narrators ~ Eve. Eve is on her 6 month shore leave from angel duty and is bored since Kristoff is in court. So Kristoff brings her a case to help him with, getting info on a ghost. Eve stumbles upon a hidden dimension and finds some little demonic critters with a big secret ~ some lost text that contain spells. So Eve gets Trsiel involved after discovering the whole quest was just made up to alleviate Eve's boredom, and they get trapped in a hell dimension. Turns out her fake quest turned into a real one, involving some big hell beasts.
I absolutely LOVE Eve as a narrator, she's so kick ass. This really was just a little filler story but it gave a nice little insight into Eve and Kristoff's afterlife and some of Eve's angel duty woes.

I didn't read the 13 preview, if it was just the prologue or even just one chapter I probably would have. But it's 6 chapters and then I would have had to wait 'til July to read the full book ~ even I can't inflict that much pain on myself. Although I couldn't stop myself from reading the first couple of paragraphs before forcing myself to put down the kindle and back away slowly.

27th July isn't really that far away, is it? I can wait ..... I hope!(less)

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this novella. It actually has two very short stories and then quite a big preview of THIRTEEN, which I didn't read because I want to enjoy the book fully when it comes out. But I was a bit disappointed that the preview was really pretty much half of this ebook.

STALKED
(Women of the Otherworld # 7.3)

This story was originally published in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon (anthology) which I never read. Basically Clay and Elena had their twins and were basically living as a married couple without being actually married. So when they decide to make it official and then they go on their honeymoon, they thought they wanted what normal couples got in their honeymoon. Except normal is boring for them. And Elena finds herself being stalked by a mutt, but it's Clay who notices right away. I loved the fact that this story was from Clay's POV. I can still say Clay and Elena are my favorite couple in this series and it's always enjoyable to read about them, but Clay's mind is such a treat to be in. Having not read the anthology this was originally published in, I actually enjoyed this story as new to me.

OFF-DUTY ANGEL
(Women of the Otherworld # 12.5)

Here's the reason why my smile faltered. Eve *might* be my least favorite character in the series. I've never developed any attachment to her, probably because she is technically out of the picture already when the series pretty much gets going and then comes back. Needless to say I was disappointed that the brand new story we were getting was Eve's. But it was kind of fun. She's been bored out of her mind with mindless research work until her DH gives her an assignment. This takes her on a quest, jumping through different planes, and she actually made this story entertaining to the point that I liked her. A lot of action and the story was very focused on Eve and hardly on Eve/Kristoff.

Oh, how I love Kelley Armstrong's books! Right before the release of 13 (coming out July 24, 2012) she gives us a little teaser present with The Hunter and the Hunted. This collection contains two novellas, Stalked and Off-Duty Angel and plus a sneak peek of 13. All three are a great way to get ready for 13.

The first story is Stalked which was originally published in My Big, Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. Elena and Clayton are finally on their honeymoon and he wants to make it perfect for her. However, an annoying mutt gets in the way. These two are my favorite characters of the Otherworld series. To make this story even better, it's from Clayton's perspective. I really enjoyed watching him trying to protect Elena and give her a "normal" honeymoon. He is actually trying to respect human tradition which is pretty humorous. I love everything about Elena and Clayton and it was fun reading this little tale.

Next is a new story about Eve Levine, part-time ghost and part-time angel. Off-Duty Angel takes Eve on a little adventure while waiting for her lover, Kristof Nash, to get free from the otherworsly court. I always find it amusing that Eve always finds herself in some kind of mess and has to fight her way out. As I read this quirky tale, I'm finding that the infamous dark witch is slowly getting some scruples. Watching her decide between right and wrong is very entertaining. Eve has appeared in several of the Otherworld books and has had her own in Haunted. However, I have always pictured her mainly as Savannah's mother. Eve gave Savannah more complexity. However, I think Ms. Armstrong wrote this story to further develop Eve in time for 13. My guess is that Eve plays major role in the upcoming book.

Ms. Armstrong also included in this collection seven chapters of 13. After reading, I think she was a little bit mean giving us a tantalizing taste and then waiting until next month to give the rest. 13 opens with a bang! After reading just a few pages, I was completely hooked. I can't wait to find out how she concludes this series and probably a little bit sad that it's ending.

So this are two nice short stories, but don't expect too much. btw I haven't read the first two chapters of 13 included in this book, I will wait until I have the complete book.

The first short story is about Elena and Clay's honeymoon and some trouble they run into. I received this book from the publisher courtesy of Netgalley without realizing it was short stories that featured characters from the author's Otherworld series. Although I never read any of Armstrong's books, I'm definitely a fan now and I am adding her novels to my TBR pile.

13 has to be the book I have been most looking forward to being released in my book worm years. As a self confessed fan girl of the Women of the Otherworld series I am happy to pick anything related to the series, and in this case it is a pair of bite sized short stories.

Stalked

Clay & Elena have to be my favourite character couple from the series so anything that is about them I am pretty much guaranteed to enjoy. Having said that, this is not a fantastic example of their story. I can't help but think, that without having read any of the other books this might be a thrilling read. The plot is short, well written and fast paced. But as a regular reader this doesn't really add anything to the series. Nothing new is learnt, no real new characters are introduced and my favourite characters related to them are barely mentioned.

Off-Duty Angel

I really enjoyed this short story. The plot was original and there was considerable amount of character development. Eve really is a kick ass character and I really warmed to her in this episode. I would have purchased for just this one short.

13 Preview

Last books in series tend to be action packed. Deathly Hallows. Breaking Dawn. 13 looks to be no different in that respect. I was positively shocked by some of the gore and really intrigued to read the rest of the book now. I just really hope that with all this action it doesn't loose the romance (sex), character development and the domestic scenes I really enjoy. My biggest gripe with this preview though was its formatting. I can only assume with its conversion to a Kindle readable format something went wrong, resulting in a series of small but annoying spacing errors. This aside this really is just a taster and I can wait for the next book!

Overall this was not a dissapointment, but just not the best I have read by Armstrong. Just today I received my email confirmation that my copy of 13 has been shipped, and this short story collection has in no way affected the anticipation and excitement I have for this final book, be it good or bad.

Two novellas, the first takes place when Elena and Clay slip away for a honeymoon only to find that they are being stalked by a lone werewolf. This was well worth reading as it's light but action packed tale which shows the characters at their best- working together but still maintaining their independant streaks. I have already read Stalked(7.3) in which we see Clay and Elena’s attempt at a honeymoon in which of course they encounter a mutt who wants to try his luck with them both. I'd really only recommend this to the most loyal Kelley Armstrong fan. (I'm a big fan myself but even this tries my patience.)

This short collection really only contains two stories, one of which is a reprint ("Stalked"). But I suppose it's nice for people who missed out on the anthology it was originally published in and the werewolves really are Armstrong's best characters in the Otherworld series. I liked this story as it gave me more insight into the "life" or I should say afterlife of Eve Levine and Kristof Nast and their relationship. The part I liked best, though was the glimpse of 13! Of course, now I'm more anxious than ever to read 13, except that it will be wrapping up one of my favorite series. I hope Ms. Armstrong continues to entertain us with more stories from this world she's created!
