This is a review for IO Tours and posted on All Things Writing.

I can never decide about vampire books--what do I really want out of my vamps? Should they be old school, traditional bloodsuckers that fear the sunlight or should they have evolved and found new ways to break out of the Dracula paradigm. It tends to be a fine line for me. Better Off Dead, book 2 in the The Vamp Saga by Danielle Blanchard takes the vampire mythos into new territory, causing the reader to ponder a whole new kind of bl...more

This is a review of Better Off Dead by Danielle Blanchard Benson. The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. To form your own opinion and support the author please acquire your own legal copy of this book. I received this book free as part of the blog tour.

This is the second in the Vampire Sage series.

The book starts out with Zahara going into a crypt to visit the Queen, Her Highnesses. Zahara states to no one that it will only be a matter of time before the Queen will be able to...more

I will admit that I did not read the first book in this series, Death Wish. I’m guessing if I had, I wouldn’t have been so lost from the very beginning of this book. Since I didn’t, it took a lot to try and figure out what was happening and who the players were.

I love my vampires and I don’t mind if they bed hop or seem to be shallow, but the characters in Better Off Dead were ones that I could not connect with. I’m not sure if it was because the story flipped between being in first person (Man...more

This is a complex soap opera type of book with vampires as the cast. It contains vampire politics, backstabbing, and ulterior motives. Blanchard offers a fresh prospective on vampires that is no where near the norm. If you want to read something unique, I would suggest you pick up this series.

The main character is Manon, she is a Day Walker and able to convert people of her blood line into Day Walkers. After converting a few more family members it is realized that there is a threat to her life....more

Manon Damgaard never imagined how fast her life would change after agreeing to become a vampire. Nor did she take into account the consequences of allowing her husband to drink her blood. The International Vampire Council has always considered her to be an abomination, yet little do they know, that's exactly what she is.

Manon inadvertently bestows her husband with the ability to walk in daylight, making the pair very dangerous adversaries to those who cross their path. They're now a different br...more

It stresses me out when I read a series book out of order. And with Better Off Dead, this was clearly no exception. There is a massive list of players in Blanchard's story--Luckily, the reader is given a list of all 20 players in this Paranormal world. Blanchard's 'world' is sometimes difficult to follow and I felt like I needed to take notes on who's who, who double-crossed who, etc. Very much is going on and I feel that this could hinder the reader in "falling into" the book. The shame is all...more

Having not read the first book in the series, I found this book a little hard to understand. I really hate when a book in a series bogs you down with loads of information from the first book, but I felt this book didn't give you enough information as to what happened in the previous book. There are so many characters, I had a hard time keeping them straight. But, if you like drama, back biting and secret plots against each other, you will like this book! I was a little sad that I didn't connect...more
