Land was an unexpected surprise! Although I wasn’t too pleased with the author’s writing style, looking beyond technicalities, I found the overall story to be really enjoyable.
I really liked that the group of five were sixteen year olds, some old life-long friends, some ex friends, some strangers. They ban together with one common objective: to get back home to Canada. At first, they plan to bike all the way back home to Canada, but their trip brings unexpected surprises and horrors –...more

Ok, I don’t believe most books written are 5 star quality; most don’t compare to the classics or even The Hunger Games, but let’s get real how often does that type of book come along?! People seem to believe that a book has to be a Pulitzer Prize winner to be 5 stars, but because I read so much I’ve learned that certain books definitely stand out against the rest and this is one of them.

This is a YA book so it doesn't get as graphic as some books in this catagory. That said, this IS a YA book so it is simplified and not as believable.
I did enjoy this book because it actually portrayed not all of civilazation becomes barbaric in the collapse of society.
The characters are likable and not a lot of morals and political views getting thrown at you. Did not get the feeling the writer was trying to push their philosophy at you.
A really enjoyable read.

A group of Canadians teens have won a coveted school trip to California. They’re about to start their day in Disneyland when an EMP bomb goes off. Everything electronic is fried. Planes crash, cars won’t start, and phones don’t work. Southern California is a man-made paradise, dependent on resources from outside – things are going to go downhill quick.

I have been reading this genre of book lately and this was one of the better ones. It has a rather unbelievable premise and the teens in the book are comic bookish, I still enjoyed the story and the flow. There were many laugh out loud moments and a few scary moments. There will be a second book "Sea" and I will read that once it comes out. I am an avid reader of non super hero comics and think this book would make an excellent graphic novel. Land is not a deep thinking book, it is an easy read.
wow i reeeeeeeally loved this book! it was so realistic and really hit home! this is something that could definitely happen in our time and age. I think it was so very clever of her to create the series the way she did, so that first we get the story of the kids on land, then we'll move to the story of the kids who went by sea, and then we'll come to read about the whole group reuniting back at home! well at least thats how i assume she'll play this out! sooooo excited for the next one!
I read just about every post apocalyptic independent book that shows up on amazon, and as a first book for the author I was really impressed. What stuck out the most to me was the writers sensitivity towards the relationships between her characters. There may be a few inaccuracies regarding some details but I was too into this book to give less than 4
stars for an independent and first time writer. If you like lights out and 77 days in September this is the Indy book of your dreams

Every cliche and stereotype imaginable has been used in this book. Plot started out well but then it became roo much, bike gangs, really? Would have enjoyed more if the characters had beed developed and we got to see deeper into what yhey were going through, not just the fantastical situations that occurred.
Yes! Yes Yes! Perfect book for the dystopian Teen novel fan. I am hard put to speculate how this book can be any better.
There were a lot of inner dialogue parts that made my eyes roll and my head dizzy ('Does he like me, ever since The Event I like him more, but if he doesn't like me back...'- - ugh circuitous sophomoric high school drivel) but that was what made this book fun,
How would a group of teenagers react at the beginning of the end of time...Very fun book
