This book just isn't as interesting as the others. For one thing every single character (including the new shinigami) uses Light's circular reasoning, which is really confusing and delays progress. Despite the bulk of the volume no progress was made in the search, although I'm not quite sure what anybody's searching for anymore! This new shinigami is an idiot, and Ryuk is no longer "entertaining" really what good are all these shinigami! They can't do anything...Light is boring now, he

Okay, Mello terrifies me. Just putting that out there. I will never eat another chocolate bar without recalling those dead eyes of his *shiver* It is terribly impressive how the manga-ka uses such a realistic art style combined with such outlandish characters to make the story take on a life of its own. The three-way strategy game between Near, Mello and Light is much more intense and interesting than I thought it would be - I'm still depressed over L's death, but after this book, I'm quite a

I love Mello, even more than Light in this book. Near and Light do think at the same level but for us mere readers, this intellect is borrowed from the first 7 books. That's why I'm in love with Mello. He has a new way of doing things. I really like him, and I'm switching sides from Light/Kira to this Mello. I absolutely adore him even though he did look like a girl the very first time I saw him and read book seven. Come on, if I didn't pay attention to the way he dresses and sometimes acts (and

Volume 8 in the Death Note manga series continues off with the kidnapping plot revealed at the end of volume 7. As the task force desperately tries to come on top in the kidnapping scheme, the kidnappers headed by the mysterious Mello (who is actually a boy....) make themselves a new acquaintance that brings trouble to Light's perfect plan.
While I didn't love volume 8 as much as I did volume 7, the suspense and action was pretty engrossing. I enjoyed the appearances of these new L-typ More...

This is my lowest rated volume of the Deathnote series. Should note it does have one of the best covers of the volumes. The story.....meh. Light has become boring and this volume really makes you miss L as a character. Near seems to be L junior. Perhaps I like Mello because he actually takes some action and does something. The humor and character development is missing as Ryuk, Misa and some other characters have become either boring, or meaningless to the overall story. And yeah, circu

I'm sorry to say it's rather a drag without L.
Especially when you have that damn Light taking his name, when he doesn't deserve it.
/sigh.
Oh, and slightly spoilery.
I'm starting to really like Near. Mello's fine, but far too rash for me. Though Mello does far more ruthless things (which would suggest a bit of cold-heartedness), I actually feel he's much more emotional with his work. And that's bothersome for me.
I love the chocolate obsession, however. And I've be More...

Ho hum! More Death Note - after awhile, these volumes start to blur together. Either I'm reading them too fast and too close together or they're reiterating the plotting and twists and turns of disguising themselves and their motives. Spoilers again for people who haven't read this far...
So here we are in a world dominated by Kira and his growing numbers of supporters. We ended the last volume with Mello (one of L's heirs) and his gang kidnapping Sayu (Light's sister - remember h More...

Overall Rating: A++
Synopsis: A psychological/supernatural thriller created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student, Light Yagami, who discovers the notebook of a shinigami that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim's name while picturing his or her face. I read the last few chapters as a reminder because I already have the 9th volume. The only thing that stands out is that Light Yagami has become a pansy. That's right, I said it! Ever since what happened with L in the last volume, and the years that have passed, Light has gotten soft and I don't like it one bit. In this volume, Light now has concerns for the well-being of his family and actually doesn't want to put them at risk. Really?! Wasn't it in the first or second volume that Light was wil

Mello! Look at him in his chocolate glory! Another character that you really just want to hug but know that he'd shoot your head off if you even got within a foot of his chocolate bar. The characters in these books are amazingly corny, all with their own odd habits. Whether that be eating chocolate or killing people, its all fun, yup fun...

This volume was a bit of a disappointment, primarily because of Misa's character. Essentially she's been reduced to a gangster's moll, without any of the spirit she showed in earlier volumes. Indeed women in general have little value in this series.
Still new characters, Near and Mello provide some additional interest.

It's ramping up again with the puzzling situations and some cool ideas about how to get through the plot. The little love triangle going on between the main players does seem to be spreading the logic a little thin, but let's hope the next book sorts them out.

First half was boring- once the new shinigami starts mucking about it gets interesting again. Man, there's a lot of talking and thinking in this book! I never thought I say this about manga, but pick up the pace a bit!

This "second half" does not quite do for me what the first half did, what with a certain someone no longer in the picture....but it still rocks!

In this book it is getting more awsome and intense. Mello one of the most important person in this book has killed more people then kira. He/she killed the president of the United States of America and more people by the death note. She/he got the death note by taking it from Light yagamis father which got traded for Light yagami's daughter. Light yagami (Kira) still hasent died and i wonder when he will. I think tha mello might die before Light yagami because he/she dosent look like a pers

Mello is annoying and Light is a completely heartless jerk. I'm not sure I'm enjoying this as much as I used to.

This series is getting a bit long in the tooth for me. There has been little in the way of character development and the Near storyline is just more of the same we saw with L.
