Normally, I'm not one for short stories. All too often I get to the end of the anthology and have forgotten it almost as soon as I've put the book down. Not all short story collections, but enough that I generally don't expect too much from them. However, this little selection of stories is exactly what I look for in such a collection.

Each of the five stories is very different from the others, and full of a creativity that's really rare in such shorts. Each one stands out and is memorable in its...more

Circle Spinner and Other Tales is a collection of five short stories from author Elizabeth Baxter. Each tale presented in the voice of the protagonist, places the reader directly into the drama, as it is unfolding. In the style of a folk-tale, Baxter demonstrates her ability as a storyteller by providing strong imagery to involve the reader’s senses and emotions in situations demanding personal sacrifice and courage in fantasy and science fiction settings.

As an appetizer to an adventure novel, i...more

The stories are engaging, but each one left me wanting more. The worlds are so vivid and the characters so likable that I really felt that any one of the five stories could have been expanded into a novel--and I rather wish they had.

I've just picked up her novel, "Summer Storm" and I'm looking forward to see what she is able to do with a larger canvas to paint her world on.

This is a pleasing collection of speculative fiction/fantasy short stories. Each of them flush out the particular aspects of their alternate cosmology in a satisfactorily cumulative fashion, and many of them, much like old episodes of The Twilight Zone, offer a surprise or startling relevation to help make the point towards the end of the tale.

Fun, well-crafted collection of fantasy shorts. The collection feels like a random selection of stories, but each one is a good quick read. My favorite was probably the title story, Circle Spinner. Warning: some of these stories are not for readers who insist on a happy ending.

A collection of 5 sf/f short stories that cross genre boundaries. Got it for free from the author. I find the settings & plots refreshing & original with some nice, interesting twists, and I personally like the clean & crisp writing style.

This is a nice single-author anthology of fantasy and science-fiction short stories. Well done.

Some great stories!

I really enjoyed the unique stories in this one. The last two specifically (can't remember names) were very fun. My only complaint is I'm not a huge short story person. I always want more than what's offered.

interesting short stories... wide variety in themes as well!

I really loved this collection of stories. They were all kind of dark, but very well written and the characters were well developed and imagined. This is a "keeper" to be re-read.

Elizabeth Baxter was born and raised in England. In her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking, traveling the world and watching England play cricket. She’s been writing since she was six years old and plans to continue for as long as she’s able to hold a pen (or a keyboard).
