Yeah, I've continued with the series. Why, you ask? Why, when I so thoroughly despised Fifty Shades of Grey, would I do this to myself?

Why, for the fun factor, of course! Bad writing tends to make me giddy because I'm much better at being a horribly judgmental person critic than I am at....well, most anything else. Reading books this awful actually brings a certain amount of joy into my life. Plus, I had a few people tell me they couldn't wait for my reviews of the second and third Fifty books....more

I really wish I could manually add a 6th star to Goodreads for this book. I never would have believed it was possible, but Fifty Shades Darker is even better than Fifty Shades of Grey. Hard to believe, but true. Reading this book reminded me of a quote that I love by Alan Cohen, “Scared and sacred are spelled with the same letters. Awful proceeds from the same root word as awesome. Terrify and terrific. Every negative experience holds the seed of transformation.” Reading Fifty Shades Darker is l...more

Ok. There's a dangerous theme in this book that I want to speak out about: Ladies, despite what EL James says, you will not change your man's personality or fix his age-old sexual perversions in 5 weeks.

I thought part one of Fifty Shades series was too tense and upsetting, but be careful what you wish for... In this follow-up to the infamous BDSM themed 1st novel, Christian shifts his needs and personality 180* and it was yawn-worthy at best. This story was much less dramatic...more

The missus bought a Paperback
...down Tesco, Saturday,
I had a look inside her bag;
.......T'was "fifty shades of grey".

Well I just left her to it,
And at ten I went to bed.
An hour later she appeared;
The sight filled me with dread…..

In her left she held a rope;
And in her right a whip!
She threw them down upon the floor,
And then began to strip.

Well fifty years or so ago;
I might have had a peek;
But Mabel hasn't weathered well;
..... She's eighty four next week!!

I loved it. It was a different experience than the first one; the pace is much slower, even though there are a lot of outside forces and complications when there weren't in the previous one. The chemistry is as sizzling as ever though (whew! *fan please!*), the romance is sweeter, and there i...more

The second half wasn't as bad, but the first half felt like a continuing repeat of the initial book.

Still hating the inner goddess thing. It's like Ana's talking to another version of herself in her head.

Getting tired of all the smirks. Does Christian make any other facial expression?

These books are a bit warped, but I have less of an issue reading about warped than I do reading about repetitive behaviors and inner goddesses.

The steam level was decent, but nothing way out there. The emails were...more

Okay, so I didn't think Christian could get anymore awesome, but he did. As I said in my review of Fifty Shades of Grey, he is the kind of hero I'm most drawn to, and in this book he's more of the same. Intense, brooding, demanding.... darker.

Ana still isn't drawing me in, though I do like her better than I did in Grey. She seems to have matured some, thank heavens, but she still does some incredibly annoying things that to me just aren't in keeping with her personality, or with who we are suppo...more

A couple of weeks ago, I made a bet with [P] to the effect that his review of Fifty Shades of Grey would collect at least 20 votes by the following Monday. The stake was one chocolate penis. I was delighted to see that [P] had quite underestimated the quality of his fine piece of writing, and in the event it was not even close; he had 24 votes by Sunday afternoon. I told [P], whom I believed to be a gentleman, that the exact nature of the prize was for him to decide, though I hinted that this wo...more

The Good

1.) Phrases like "kinky fuckery". Awesome. I am totally absorbing that into my daily lexicon.

2.) Silk, Satin, Lace and Linen. I loved James' dreamy depictions of the life of a glamorous 1%er, and the many evocative details she incorporates. (Seriously, how many bottles of white wine do they down? The hedonistic bent definitely had me hankering for an oaky Chardonnay.) To me, the sailing, the masquerade ball, the beautiful Mediterranean manse, were some of the best scenes in the novel(s),...more

6+ stars to each of the books in the trilogy!!

This is how I see Christian:

It pains me to no end that I don’t have proper reviews up for these books. These were one of the first sets of books I read when I first started reading series and were a HUGE part of what inspired me to start reading and blogging again but at the time that I read them, I still wasn’t writing real reviews. I fully plan on rereading someday soon (for the fourth time) and writing out full reviews for them. But, I mean, the...more

Honestly, I didn’t read this whole thing; I skimmed most of it and I still managed to get the gist of it. At least I saved myself the torture of reading about Ana’s constant inner monologue. I have to say that my review of the first book still largely stands.

It’s ironic how someone with a name like Steele can’t stand her ground. At the end of the first book, Ana finally sees some sense and leaves Christian. Surprise surprise, that doesn’t last lo...more

After experiencing first hand just how bad it can get, Ana left enigmatic billionaire Christian Grey. His BDSM tastes were too dark for her to handle.
Why is she reconsidering now? Fifty proposes a tempting arrangement. He is prepared to try and give her what she desires most. More.
It isn’t an easy road for them, though. Ana must learn about he...more

A Darker Shade of Grey was not as dark a story as Fifty Shades of Grey, but it still showcased Christian in all of his dysfunctional glory. In Darker, Ana is trying to come to terms with how to deal with and carry on a relationship with someone as emotionally stunted as Christian. Yes, the books are still mind candy, but fun and enjoyable mind candy. The price is a bit off-putting, I would probably never had read these stories if they had not been recommended and lent to me. The series was origi...more

Astounishing, heartfelt addicting series.

I can’t even form the words to express how I felt about this novel. It’s just downright Alluring.The Hero himself is just powerful and so full of a dark tortured soul.He captivates me,on so many different levels. Without him this novel wouldn’t have been the same.

Every part of me wants to scream “BEST BOOK EVER” although I say that about many books I love.My only exception on this book is, That It “IS”. I’ve read so many BDSM novels and besides Megan Har...more

A little disappointed with the second part :( it was good but not as good as the first book...I didn't like how Christian turned a complete 180 towards Ana. I missed the sexy and dangerous "fifty" from the first book. It just became a normal romance like any other erotic book that's out there. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the characters and the story so I hope with the next one there will be a little more excitement but overall very good. Can't wait!!

There's not much recap needed for this book, by this time I suspect the entire English-speaking world knows about these books. Mousy Ana Steele meets über rich but oh-so-emotionally disturbed Christian Grey. In this book, Ana settles into her new job at a Seattle publishing house and life without Christian (hah - you know that won't last long). Our pair of *lovebirds* continue to deal with Christian's dark past, one of his former subs in his games of BDSM, and the woman who made him what he is t...more

It never happens, but, during the time I was reading Fifty Shades Darker, I was doing some research online for something altogether unrelated, and I came across the following quote. For me, it captures the essence of Ana's love for Christian, and it honestly gave me chills when I read it and immediately thought of them. I also believe this is truly applicable for *every* relationship.

You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly---Sam Keen, Autho

Oh, Christian, you make MY inner goddess swoon!

There is so much to love about Fifty Shades Darker. Fifty Shades Darker is a much more comfortable read than the first book, Fifty Shades of Grey. This book focuses more upon the evolution of Christian’s and Ana’s relationship.

And boy, does it evolve. After a short but miserable separation, Christian and Ana realize that they need each other. In the previous book, Christian was very much in control of the relationship. In this book, the tables are...more

Well Mrs. James, here I sit having finished yet another of your novels and as I ponder my feelings, I find my words inadequate. As I’ve stated before, I don’t read much erotic, and to add; I don’t read a lot of Contemporary Romance either, so for me to dish out 5 stars says a great deal about how I felt about your books. Your story telling is wonderful, and your characterization is outstanding. Your ability to tell you...more

Right off the bat, I have to say this, and I cannot stress it enough: If you're considering reading this series, I encourage you to be opened minded if BDSM and erotic romance isn't your typical fare (and book number two is not nearly as BDSM as the first, not even close). It's not mine, and I am so glad I gave this trilogy a shot. This is one of the most moving love stories you can ever read. It's intensely erotic and sexy at every turn, but that passion is piqued by the meaning and essence beh...more

Re-read with my local girls bookclub 5/3/2012

With my second read I find I still have the same problems with the heroine as before and also I'm still rooting for Christian Grey to master his demons and get his HEA.

It was absorbing, intense, sensual, and once again leaving me with conflicting emotions. I Loved It!!!

Wow, talk about Fifty Shades of bad writing. I'm surprised I made it through this one, but you gotta give it to EL James, even though it's horrendously written, it's darn addictive.

There's so many flaws in this book, which make it painful to read.

1. Ana acts like an overly 'innocent' teenager despite being an able career woman in her early 20's. She's flushing left right and centre at even a glance or smile towards her. When she's not flushing, she's going Oh my! at every suggestive comment tha...more

It is probably the worst written book I have ever read. It is impossible to describe the main character of the story, her character is just the most vacant person I can imagine. Seriously,this book needed and editor. It is written as I, I, I - I hate first person narratives. It is worse than the worst Barbara Carlin or Harlequin Romance novels. The characters are unbelievable and shallow.

It is suppose to be some hot book that Hollywood paid 7 figures for the screen rights. Really? Is that the v...more

By now most of you have heard about the hoopla surrounding the very popular Fifty Shades trilogy by E.L. James. Fifty Shades of Grey has an astounding 4,300 reviews on Goodreads and all three books are currently the top three best selling digital books on Amazon for erotica. There’s also quite some controversy surrounding E.L., this series and how it was published. (http://gentleblaze.livejournal.com/51...) From what I understand, Fifty Shades of Grey was originally titled, Master of the Univers...more

Whuuuu Soluksuz bitirdim kitabı yahu :))
İlk kitaptan daha duygu yüklüydü. Ah Chris ah yaktın beni yeminle :D.
Senin ''Dont leave me'' diyen haykırışlarına vuruldum.
Sonundaki kesin Jack - şantajcı sapık patron - ama keşke Chris'in kabuslarındaki adam olsaydı. Böylece bizim maço onu döver rahatlardı yahu.
Neyse geniş yorumu sonraya bırakıyorum. Gelsin 3. kitap!

The second book in the Fifty Shades trilogy drew me in and kept me captivated just as well as the first. James is such a great storyteller; she weaves a tale that sucks you in and leaves you wanting more.

The story picks up right where the first book left off. Christian and Ana have been apart for a few days, and both are miserable. I hated (and loved) watching them struggle so much to be together and stay together. There are so many layers to their relationship, it was heart wrenching to watch...more

Oh James how you have captivated me in your world of Ana & Christian.

This series is so much more than "Erotica" and this installment of Fifty Shades proves this.

This installment for me, was an amazing Journey of 2 people, especially the journey for Christian. He has progressed so far as a man and it truly is because of the love he has with Ana.

For some reason everything he does in regards to Ana, all the stalkerish tendencies and Jealousy and anger..................more
