Yeah, I've continued with the series. Why, you ask? Why, when I so thoroughly despised Fifty Shades of Grey, would I do this to myself?
Why, for the fun factor, of course! Bad writing tends to make me giddy because I'm much better at being ahorribly judgmental person critic than I am at....well, most anything else. I really wish I could manually add a 6th star to Goodreads for this book. I never would have believed it was possible, but Fifty Shades Darker is even better than Fifty Shades of Grey. Ok. There's a dangerous theme in this book that I want to speak out about: Ladies, despite what EL James says, you will not change your man's personality or fix his age-old sexual perversions in 5 weeks.
I thought part one of Fifty Shades series was too tense and upsetting, but be careful what you wish for... In this follow-up to the infamous BDSM themed 1st novel, Christian shifts his needs and personality 180* and it was yawn-worthy at best. This story was much less dramatic...more

The second half wasn't as bad, but the first half felt like a continuing repeat of the initial book.
Still hating the inner goddess thing. It's like Ana's talking to another version of herself in her head.

Okay, so I didn't think Christian could get anymore awesome, but he did. As I said in my review of Fifty Shades of Grey, he is the kind of hero I'm most drawn to, and in this book he's more of the same. Intense, brooding, demanding.... darker.

1.) Phrases like "kinky fuckery". Awesome. I am totally absorbing that into my daily lexicon.
2.) Silk, Satin, Lace and Linen. I loved James' dreamy depictions of the life of a glamorous 1%er, and the many evocative details she incorporates. (Seriously, how many bottles of white wine do they down? The hedonistic bent definitely had me hankering for an oaky Chardonnay.) A Darker Shade of Grey was not as dark a story as Fifty Shades of Grey, but it still showcased Christian in all of his dysfunctional glory. In Darker, Ana is trying to come to terms with how to deal with and carry on a relationship with someone as emotionally stunted as Christian. A little disappointed with the second part :( it was good but not as good as the first book...I didn't like how Christian turned a complete 180 towards Ana. I missed the sexy and dangerous "fifty" from the first book. It just became a normal romance like any other erotic book that's out there. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the characters and the story so I hope with the next one there will be a little more excitement but overall very good. Can't wait!!

It never happens, but, during the time I was reading Fifty Shades Darker, I was doing some research online for something altogether unrelated, and I came across the following quote. For me, it captures the essence of Ana's love for Christian, and it honestly gave me chills when I read it and immediately thought of them. With my second read I find I still have the same problems with the heroine as before and also I'm still rooting for Christian Grey to master his demons and get his HEA.

Wow, talk about Fifty Shades of bad writing. I'm surprised I made it through this one, but you gotta give it to EL James, even though it's horrendously written, it's darn addictive.

It is probably the worst written book I have ever read. It is impossible to describe the main character of the story, her character is just the most vacant person I can imagine. Seriously,this book needed and editor. It is written as I, I, I - I hate first person narratives. It is worse than the worst Barbara Carlin or Harlequin Romance novels. The second book in the Fifty Shades trilogy drew me in and kept me captivated just as well as the first. James is such a great storyteller; she weaves a tale that sucks you in and leaves you wanting more.
The story picks up right where the first book left off. Christian and Ana have been apart for a few days, and both are miserable. Oh James how you have captivated me in your world of Ana & Christian.
This series is so much more than "Erotica" and this installment of Fifty Shades proves this.
This installment for me, was an amazing Journey of 2 people, especially the journey for Christian. He has progressed so far as a man and it truly is because of the love he has with Ana.
