I started this novel with high hopes, some of which were engendered by the delectable torso on the front cover! However, I found it pretty unbelievable.
The dialogue was stilted and the heroine who is supposed to be English uses words such as "gonna" and "wanna" which are distinctly Americanisms. I had the impression that English is not the writer's first language.
There was no real sense of time or space around the characters with scant imagery to set scenes and I think the investigation becomes...more

Calin delivers a knockout punch!
I doubted that I’d enjoy a mystery novel about boxing but this one surprised me. Anna Leyton, the daughter of a rich boat builder, diverges from the family business and becomes a police officer liaison with Interpol. It’s a dangerous job dealing with the seedy underbelly of London, and she’s just recovering from a disastrous car chase that almost ended her career. No wonder Anna concealed her profession when she shared a taxi ride with a sexy Frenchman. Freddie is...more

YEAH!!!
I didn't use to be a boxing fan - that is until I got married and my husband brought me to the UFC - now I'm hooked - boxing, wrestling, fights are fights, and the bloodier the better :)
LOVED this book! Mostly because it was all about the fight that was coming up
We start the book off with Anna - it's raining, and although she's not too excited about going home to her lonely flat, she hails a cab, which isn't easy, since the strike, but by luck, she sees one. And it pulls over.

I didn't give this book 5 stars because there were some editing errors that drove me nuts. I understand that I am obsessive about proper grammar and spelling and that these little irritants may be easy for you to pass over but they make me crazy! That said, this was a read that really packs a wallop! Detective Inspector Anna Leyton grew up privileged, part of a wealthy family with a yacht building business. She left it all behind because she wanted to make a difference and believed that being a...more
I was able to snag this book for free on Amazon, and timing was perfect when I got it for it to be a light filler while I awaited a book release a couple of days later. To my delight, it was quite an enjoyable book about love at first site and overcoming all odds to be together. Truth be told it is utterly unrealistic; however, once you suspend the need for reality, it is quite fun! This is the story of Anna Leyton, heiress to a shipping empire, who spurns her family and their fortune to make he...more
Taken on a rollercoaster of a ride this exciting, intensely passionate romance will take your breath away!
An acutely electrifying tale that had me sat on the edge of my seat throughout, which totally overwhelmed and shocked me as to how thoroughly exciting and entertaining this story was. This is a well written romance set in the midst of a police investigation into international fraud in sport and gambling. The heroine is a modern career woman working for Interpol trying to crack illegal match fixing and money laundering. Her life is turned upside down when a chance encounter in her private life becomes the key to her success in her current assignment as a detective and she has to make choices about her own personal satisfaction against her duty to her job. Its a fast paced book...more
A friend recommended this book to me, knowing I like both mysteries and romances, and I am so glad she did. Anna Leyton is a Metropolitan Police Detective in London on assignment to Interpol. In the tradition of romances, she meets her man by pure chance (well, almost), competing for a London cab on one of those rainy evenings when cabs are scarce. When she shares a cab with Freddie La Salle and breathing in his male fragrance and his aura of ... something ... her life has already undergone the...more
Emma Calin keeps you guessing to (almost) the last page in this story of a woman who struggles over the choice of doing her job as an Interpol cop or following her heart. With questions about motive and truth - and secret stacked on secret - Calin weaves a tale of high-stakes passion and mystery. Luxury watercraft, boxing, and the world of Mobbed-up gambling are an unusual and fascinating backdrop to the novel.

Knockout! is a suspenseful love story filled with plenty of fast-paced action and steamy romance. Emma Calin’s talent with words is demonstrated as she captures your attention with her intriguing story of a police woman who is faced with the dilemma of falling in love with a suspect in a crime. Her original approach is remarkable and is filled with surprising twists and turns that will keep you on your toes. The writing flows, the sex scenes are steamy and the characters are engaging.

Wow. This book kept me reading into the wee hours of the night. Not only is it a compelling mystery, it's also a sexy love story. The passion between Anna and Freddie is worth reading just for itself, but the Interpol/police story line was extremely interesting. Great book; just the thing for a summer read. It's well written and I was totally swept up in the world of the book. That's what reading a good book is all about, isn't it? You get to leave your life for a while and be entertained by som...more
2.5??? Freddie and Anna go from complete strangers to beyond in love and engaged in a matter of days...just too unrealistic for me. It wasn't a bad book but it wasn't the greatest either. I never really comment about grammar or punctuation but there was an odd use of exclamation points. A lot!!! Yes, I know the point of them but it just seemed odd to me. Referring to female parts as petals, weirded me out. There were some other goofy terms as well, I am drawing a blank on them now, sorry

I should start out by saying that I really loved the plot line (like really loved it). It was fun, it was fast paced, and it had action. The only thing I couldn't get over was the way the characters talked. It was too flowery and pompous. Dialogue between people shouldn't include huge grand gestures constantly because sometimes some people talk just to talk. Another thing was the sex scenes.... soft petals? really? I didn't know women's anatomy included soft petals... If you can get over those t...more

I was very pleased to receive this signed book free as a Gooodreads first read. The author was also kind enough to forward me a kindle copy. It is an easy book to read and one I think which would be ideal to take on holiday. A love story that is somewhat unbelievable, (although there are not many of us who wouldn’t envy the instant chemistry between Anna and Freddie). It is also a crime mystery, the story line, involving Interpol, police, the boxing community and the sultry relationship between...more
I think it was a great concept but just didn't work for me. I was expecting the cop to be a bit more cop, if that makes any sense. I guess I was expecting the case to be a bigger part of the plot and not so much of them telling each other how in love they were. I've read a lot of romance in my time, but this one seemed a little too sugary and over the top. I would recommend to a few others, but this one just wasn't my cup of tea.
Great Read! Ever believe in love at first sight? Ever meet someone that makes your heart stop and toes tingle before you even know their name? Ever wonder if love can last when based on deceit? Anna and La Salle were destined to meet, but Anna is a cop and cop instincts come first. La Salle is a world champion boxer hiding something that leaves Anna asking more questions than getting answers. Take a wild ride with Anna and La Salle. Highly Recommended.
Wonderful romantic suspense, loved the book, started reading at night which was a mistake cause i was so glued to the book just could'nt sleep wanted to know what happens next,as soon as finished work in morning picked it up and completed the book, what a page turner the plot was held perfectly with shocking twist n turns ,loved Freddie-Anna,the epilogue was cute
Overall enjoyed the book,it kept me interested from start till end
Looking forward to read more books by Emma Calin

Interpol officer Anna and champion boxer Freddie meet by chance. What follows is an intricately woven tale of crooks, murder, rigged fights and how true love can conquer all.
You can't help but be drawn into policewoman Anna's world. She's had it hard professionally and privately and has absorbed herself in being the best cop she can. But she is bowled over, her heart taken, the second she meets Freddie La Salle.

Ana is so likeable as a woman and as a cop. The conflict in her mind between woman and cop draws you into the story, which gets infused with a healthy dose of male spice in Freddie La Salle. The chemistry is palpable, and the story flows on a level surface before plunging into the rapids leading to the climax. Ana defies every imposed expectation of her and ultimately must choose to follow her heart wherever it leads, even if that means letting go of the love of her life. Although I expected muc...more
I've not read this type of contemporary police drama/romance before, so I was interested to see if this was something I would enjoy or not. Unfortunately, I had a hard time really getting into this one. The writing, though clear enough, really didn't engage me or draw me in as a reader. I never truly felt invested in the story, and the passive voice writing and backstory elements in the beginning really made the read hard for me.

Great storyline, a bit different from what I'm used to. You could definitely tell the author isn't American. The language was a bit different, and it was a little hard to understand some of the subtleties. It also seemed more of a sophisticated read than most romantic suspense that I normally come across. I'd definitely recommend this to both contemporary and romantic suspense fans.
A steamy romance with a well thought out plot and totally likeable characters. Anna falls for Freddie La Salle. When she met him, she had no idea he was a famous boxer, but soon finds out when her department launches an investigation into illegal betting. The prime suspect? Freddie! All bets on! Or is it cuff and protect?! Anna has one heck of a dilemma, plenty of conflict, but will love cloud her judgment or will she stay on task and hold true to her obligations as a cop? A knockout passionate...more
