Author Aggie Villanueva initially contacted me to request permission to include a link in this book to my video spoofing the indie author experience, which I happily granted. I’m something of a self-styled indie advocate, so I was enthusiastic about the premise of this book, especially given that navigating the many minefields on the path to publication can be a frustrating experience, to put it mildly. Not long after reading Amazon Categories Create Best-Sellers, my book Xenofreak Nation broke ...more

Just finished this great book. Lots of information here for the author on how to use Amazon's tools to have your book noticed. Helpful links, clear information. Definitely recommend this one as a reference.

Any author who wants to see their book up there in Amazon’s shop front needs to get this guide and implement the simple steps outlined to achieve marketing/sales success. Don’t think the length of the book means you won’t get the information you need. I spent time reading it to make sure I understood the strategies outlined, and then I went onto my own book page on Amazon and implemented them. What a shock to see how much your publisher does NOT do for you!

Promotion on Amazon - Amazon Categories Create Best Sellers: But That's Not All They Do

Rating: 4 of 5
Author: Aggie Villanueva
Format: Paperback, Kindle

Young writers are frequently dismayed when they learn simply publishing their work does not result in immediate sales. Even the best novels will have stagnant sales if readers don't know about them. But how does one effectively bring visibility to their work without spending a fortune on marketing?

This book is directed at authors who are trying to sell their books on Amazon. Amazon is an enormous book-selling machine, says the author, but a book can easily get lost in it. One needs to know how to “work” it. This is about increasing a book’s visibility at Amazon by making it a big fish in a small pond—a best seller in a small category. Because being a best seller in any category can open doors at Amazon, leading to “tendrils of opportunity” to other promotions, even to round-the-clock, “ti ...more

Many indie author publishing and promotional guides share similar information. At this point in my indie author career, it's all about finding bits of information not already in the multitude of other books written on the subject.

The Postitive

Aggie Villanueva's book didn't disappoint. She doesn't tell you what categories you should list your book under, but she explains how to find better categories, and how to change them step-by-step. She explains how Amazon uses your ranking within these cate

This book is a goldmine. Having sold on Amazon for many years, I was already familiar with some of the info - mostly through trial and error. I totally wish I had been able to read this years ago! It would have saved me so much time and trouble. Aggie walks authors through the basics of Amazon's best tricks and tips for gaining bestseller status. This really is basic, easy stuff, but so much of it is obscure that many authors will have no idea how to access it. I certainly learned a few new thin ...more

Villanueva is the real deal. A woman who has been writing forever (well, since the late 1970s), who has taken to the self-publishing revolution with gusto and is producing low cost advice, information and cyber hugs to others following in her wake. Her book is a little beefed out with homely wisdom - because the advice about Amazon categories can actually be summed up in a few paragraphs. But what makes the book worthwhile is her respect for, and grasp of, Amazon's marketing machine. Unlike far ...more
