The purpose of this e-novella, at least in my eyes, was to make waiting for the May release of Binding the Shadows just a bit easier. Mission accomplished, Ms. Bennett. You gave me a chance to spend some quality time with my favorite characters and if possible, got me even more excited about the upcoming book. In length, Leashing the Tempest is about one-fourth of a book, so it’s definitely worth your $0.99 or 2.99, depending on your location.

Bennett's Arcadia Bell series is one of my favorite urban fantasy series and this short novella is just enough to whet my whistle until book three releases in the spring. Reading this just reminded me (like I could even forget) what a gem this series is. There are all the best elements of urban fantasy but set in a beautiful California setting and with a unique laid back sense of humor.

I think the biggest draw for me with this series is the relationships between the various main characters. Cady and Lon are... I don't know how to put it. I love the way they sink into one another and happily lean on the strengths of the other in a crisis. Lon rocks the father thing with Jupe. Really cute, very short story about Cady, boyfriend Lon, and his son Jupe. Jupe has just come into his demon power, or 'knack'; and it's a good one. He can make others do what he wishes just simply by telling them to. Lon invites Cady on an impromptu cruise around the harbor with him and Jupe; and invite the co-owner of Cady's bar to go along with them. Cute + funny side story, I think Lon would call it "nice." It felt like a full sized mystery stuffed into a novella, so it read a bit frantically at times, or maybe that was me, skimming for the 'good stuff' lol. It's funny because I haven't done that with the other Arcadia Bell novels, which I feel unfold quite lyrically, no racing or stilting, just beautifully written narrative. Jenn Bennett leapt onto my radar in 2012 with KINDLING THE MOON, the first book in the Cady Bell series and also her debut novel. It's a wonderful series, filled with awesome world building, ribald humour, not-so-ribald-but-equally-entertaining humour, strong relationships, and one very dashing moustache, which is nicely referenced in this mini-novella.

Cady, Lon and Jupe, along with Cady’s friend Kar Yee take a 3 hour boat trip so that Lon can photograph whales and dolphins and Jupe can practice his knack on Kar Yee. If only things were that simple, there wouldn’t be a story. And no, this isn’t a Gilligan’s Island story.

This is Arcadia Bell "2.5" in the series. I like the idea of releasing a digital novella in between the novels, especially when it's only .99 cents! The story is short and sweet (only took me 1.5 hours to finish, I think), but it's fun and a little side romp with the characters.

LEASHING THE TEMPEST by Jenn Bennett was the perfect little novella for me. With the right length and perfect pacing, it gave me a taste of the characters and added some development to the series; it made me feel like I was back home, and then it whet my appetite for more.

I am in a big reading drought. Books I should be totally into, I am finding dull. Instead of three books a week, I have been lucky to get through one. Basically, I haven't been my normal book devouring self. Then this novella came along. I pre-ordered this for my kindle quite awhile ago and hadn't forgotten exactly when it was supposed to come out. This was a nice little novella in the Arcadia Bell series. It's one of the most unique urban fantasy series I've read in a while, and I endeavor to read each new release as it comes out. I love the main relationships and the world the author has created.

This is a novella that goes along with the series. I honestly think it should be read in order because you are in full awareness of the characters leading this adventure and you are already invested in them. Plus, this follows the series chronologically.

I love this series, so when this novella was released and I couldn't buy it because of stupid region restrictions, I was bummed. Then the lovely Jenn Bennett had a contest for overseas readers and I won a printed copy. Yay! :)

This Arcadia Bell novella takes place almost exclusively on a yacht, as Cady, Lon, Jupe and co-owner of Tambuku Tiki Lounge, Kar Yee take what is supposed to be a short cruise for Lon to photograph whales and dolphins. When Jupe tries out his newly awakening persuasion knack on the captain which renders him unresponsive and then a furious storm begins to toss the yacht around and causes the captain to be injured and unconscious, things start getting a bit dicey. Cady lives in an interesting world with far more to it than what meets the eye. A short e book story about a counter reality, where demons, partial demons, possessions and witches live and interact with in a earth type world. Jenn Bennett's excellent Arcadia Bell series continues with this sparkling tidbit about a 3-hour cruise (shades of Gilligan's Island!) that Cady takes with Lon, Jupe and Kar Yee and how everything goes awry as Jupe attempts to learn how to use and control his knack. From the very first book, the characters have been so well rounded that the reader feels a true connection with them. I love the dynamics between Lon, Cady and Jupe. For me, this short story was like gravy on top of two, already delicious books; not essential but oh so good. The familial chemistry between Bennett’s characters in this series is undeniable and somehow manages to shine through even in a short novella like Leashing the Tempest.

Leashing the Tempest takes place after the first two books in the Arcadia Bell series. I would highly recommend reading Kindling The Moon and Summoning The Night before reading Leashing The Tempest.

It’s no secret that Jenn Bennett’s Arcadia Bell series is one of my favorite urban fantasy series, up there with Patricia Briggs’ wonderful Mercy Thompson books. In fact, the two series share a lot of commonalities. Both are packed with memorable, multi-faceted characters, good humor and warmth.

This little novella turned out to be better than the second book in the series, which is quite funny when one thinks about it. The character development was good for the character of Jupe, which makes sense since this story revolves around him. We also get to see Kar-Yee and Lon and Arcadia too. It's a quick little read, and I enjoyed it. It will have to do in tying me over till the third book comes out. I needed the sequel yesterday, but oh well the wait continues...
Even not having read any of the other Arcadia Bell books, I still enjoyed this little daytrip on stormy seas to Jenn Bennett's world and may just have to move this series off of my mental 'to try someday' pile. I liked the allusions to Cady's, apparently little bit naughty, relationship with Earthbound demon Lon and I liked the dynamic between the supporting cast - toss in magic and a situation involving a character from Russian myth and for me this was all good.
