Deadly Addiction, the second book in Kristine Cayne’s Deadly Vices series isn’t what we typically find in the romantic suspense genre. In addition to being a fast paced, emotional story, it’s intriguing, thought provoking, and unique. Oh, and definitely very sexy.

Deadly Addiction has everything you could want in a great book – suspense, romance, an oh so sexy alpha male, a kick-ass female lead…and so much more! I'm not even quite sure where to start with this because I just loved everything about this book.

The is the second book in Kristine Cayne's Deadly Vices series and the first book I've read by this author. Alyssa Morgan arrives at her new job unaware of the pitfalls she will now face. The biggest of them being she is white and SQ. She is teamed with Remi Whitedeer to come up with a solution regarding law enforcement on the reservation.

Deadly Addiction/Deadly Vices Book 2 by Kristine Cayne is gritty, gripping and unpredictable, all qualities I enjoy in a good novel. It was refreshing that I couldn’t predict what would happen next and even when I did, I was wrong and pleasantly surprised. The insight into Iroquois culture was interesting and enlightening. The various subplots combined to make an amazing story. The characters are well developed and have interesting lives. Alyssa is a memorable character who is beautiful and strong. There are many layers to her personality and as each one is revealed it gets more and more intriguing. Who would have imagined that her boyfriend while undercover on another case would reappear in her current case? While appearing to be the worst kind of human, he also shows a human side that I couldn’t help rooting for and hoping he could change his life somehow. Seeing the hard side as well as the human side of Alyssa’s character allows the reader to really connect with her. Rémi is just beautiful, inside and out, and I did feel empathy for him in having to make the choice between family and love. Their relationship is not without problems but they stand strong, bolstered by their love. This story is great and while I hadn’t read the first novel before reading the second, I will be purchasing the first and last novel in the series. Deadly Addiction/Deadly Vices Book 2 features good writing, a riveting story and realistic, remarkable characters.

This was the second book I read of Kristine Cayne, a new author for me. WOWOWOWOW
I want more from her. I am Hooked!

This book was AWESOME I did NOT want it to end. The plot was so believable.
If you like cops and robbers of different degrees then this is the book to read. The Men minus 1 were all Alpha's and believed in what they were doing , even the bad guys. The main woman was so likeable and strong with out going over the top. I guess you could and would call her Alpha, yet it is heart tugging...more

Deadly Addiction is book two in the Deadly Vices series. I have read book one, Deadly Obsession, and I have enjoyed it very much. When I picked up Deadly Addiction, I expected improvement, of course, but what I didn’t expect was how thoroughly dynamite it was. Kristine Cayne has topped all my expectations with this book.

Deadly Addiction, written by Kristine Cayne, is an outstanding novel earning a solid 5 out of 5 stars. Before reading Cayne’s Deadly Vices series, I had never read an actual romantic thriller/mystery. I had read plenty of romances with a slight plot twist to keep things interesting and keep the novel from revolving around love, sex, and “soul mates”. Never have I read romance novels written with the talent and skill that Cayne possesses.

Before reading Cayne’s Deadly Vices series, I had never read an actual romantic thriller/mystery. I had read plenty of romances with a slight plot twist to keep things interesting and keep the novel from revolving around love, sex, and “soul mates”. Never have I read romance novels written with the talent and skill that Cayne possesses.

First off, I need to say that the characters are brilliant. Cayne gives the opportunity to get to know the characters through many different sets of eyes, as the story is told through many different viewpoints. Typically, this isn’t something I am a fan of; however, she pulls it off without creating confusion.

Each character is unique and has many different layers, creating believable individuals who stir the most basic of human emotions. Rémi Whitedeer and Alyssa Morgan were by far my favorite characters. I loved them individually – their struggles and inner-demons, as well as their triumphs and compassion. I also love the way the two played off each other.

The way that Cayne told each character’s back-story a little bit at a time, rather than all at once in the beginning of the novel or upon introduction was a refreshing change. It left a slight air of mystery about the characters and helped them to feel more life-like.

The final aspect of Deadly Addiction that I want to mention is, honestly, just how addicting this novel is! Much like it’s predecessor (which I was thrilled to find Addiction wasn’t a literal sequel to Obsession), Addiction is a fast paced, romance and action packed novel; however, not to the point of being over-whelming. It’s attention grabbing and once it has your attention it doesn’t let go until the final pages. While the action and suspense is definitely there and there are your standard lulls in the adrenaline and the romance also helps to break up the thrill seeking, adrenaline-rushing. These lulls help the novel to find that perfect medium between “nail-biting suspense/mystery” and “sappy sex-driven romance” novel. What you find in the end, is sheer perfection and I’m not quite sure how I’m going to make it until the next novel comes out.(less)

Having read Kristine Cayne's first book of the series, Deadly Obsession, I knew I was going to be in for a thrill ride. I have to say, I was not disappointed.

Alyssa Morgan, a very white, very blond, sergeant for SQ (Surete du Quebec) knows how to work sticky, uncomfortable assignments, but I don't think anything could have prepared her for what she was going to experience going into her assignment with the Blackriver tribe. Purposefully given limited information by her superiors, she tasked with creating an SQ lead police force within the tribal lands. Unfortunately, no one bothered to tell Alyssa that the tribe would not want anything to do with any police force lead or trained by SQ. Knowing that her job is on the line (thanks for a lovely blackmail threat from her boss's boss), Alyssa will use whatever she has at her disposal and her relationship with Remi Whitedeer to complete her task.

Remi Whitedeer, may have experience from his days with the Montreal Police force, but nothing prepared him for Alyssa Morgan or the threat that someone on the reserve was behind the rise in drug use and theft they've recently seen. But as Remi helps Alyssa investigate what's happening he soon finds himself having to look much closer than he'd like to who might be behind what is happening and more so about where he fits in the Iroquois Nation.

As with Deadly Obsession, Kristine Cayne has managed to push the envelope when it comes to thought provoking storylines. While I loved the storyline and the romance between Alyssa and Remi, it was also hard to read when it came to the discrimination we saw with Alyssa. She had some pretty awful things said to her and done to her all in the name of maintaining the purity of the tribe. But what was even more disturbing was the prejudices Remi had to face, not from other members of his tribe, but from his own family because he was only half Iroquois. To read someone laying into Remi because of who his father was and have other family members simply stand around and say nothing was a very bitter pill to swallow. My heart broke for Remi each and every time he has someone bring up something because of who he was. Add to that his relationship with Alyssa and it was enough to make you wonder what it would take for Remi to do something.

Alyssa had her own basket of issues, but her's had more to do with the fall out from avenging the drug related death of her brother. She had lost everything to her need to get back at those that took her brother away, but when she finally was able to take a step back and look at the events that had recently played out over the past few years, she realized that doing what she did was not the wisest choice.

This was one that I could not put down. Alyssa and Remi were an awesome team and an even HOTTER couple (wish I knew exactly what that move was the Remi had named after him). If you like a suspenseful read with a man who's not afraid to show his emotions. This is definitely one you should pick up.

Another great story by Kristine Cayne. Full of everything you want in a story. A lot of action, sizzling HOT romance, and a whole cast of fascinating characters. This was such a interesting story. Remi and Alyssa were perfect together.

I love Remi’s character. He is so strong with his convictions and so caring with his people and family. He’s such a complicated character. But not only is he strong, but he’s also very vulnerable, and it was written so well, it just made you fall in love with him....more Another great story by Kristine Cayne. I love Remi’s character. He is so strong with his convictions and so caring with his people and family. He’s such a complicated character. But not only is he strong, but he’s also very vulnerable, and it was written so well, it just made you fall in love with him. There is so much past history, good and bad, some even heartbreaking for anyone having to go through it, especially a child. With all that, Remi never let this stop him from caring and fighting for others.

Alyssa is another very strong lead. To find out what she went through with the Vipers and her brother and how she coped and fought, and what she had to do to reach her goal, was amazing.

Both had difficult lives, and both had to now go through prejudices in the current lives. Alyssa being white and an SQ officer and Remi being Indian and a ½ Indian at that. Kristine did a great job of showing both their struggles to not only fight their prejudices but fight for a chance to be together.

Kristine Cayne also did a fabulous job in bringing history and traditions of the Iroquois Indians. I always love learning things while enjoying an interesting and suspenseful novel.

The loves scenes were sizzling, and also heartwarming. Their relationship had so many ups and downs because of all of their problems, Remi’s clan, the SQ, and of course the villains, I didn’t want to put it down just because I wanted Remi and Alyssa to win their struggles.

Finally, even though these novels can be read as stand alones, it’s really nice to be able to read about some of the characters in the previous book. I was so happy to see our old friends and how Kristine brought them in. She did such a great job in integrating them into this novel and making it work well.

I sincerely recommend this series to anyone looking for a fast paced, romantic, suspenseful series. Can't wait for the next one.(less)

When you take a fiesty cop and an ex-cop both reaching for their own goals you get a really banging book! I have been anticipating this book ever since I finished the last page of the first book "Deadly Obsession". If I could give this book a rating higher than 5 I definitely would. Kristine has once again captured me with not only an action packed mystery, but also a touching romance full of heat.

Remi's character was my favorite, I love how caring he is and how he is always looking out for everyone. Despite the hardships he went through when he was a little boy, he doesn't act like a victim. I like that Remi is a fighter, and he fights for what he wants including Alyssa who is an SQ COP, not only that but she is WHITE... which is a big problem/ NO NO on the reserve. When you read Deadly Addiction you will find out why, so I won't ruin it for you. I DID NOT like Chaz... he made me so angry that I wanted to take him out myself. I'll say he is a phenominal villan. This story was so complex, with different points of views told which I really enjoyed. I like that I always knew what was going on in everyone's heads, and I love the depth of Kristine's books and the world she created.

Alyssa also has a past with the Vipers (a gang) because they killed her brother and she wanted revenge. Alyssa went through a lot gaining their trust and busting them which makes it really hard to uncover the mystery of drugs on the reserve. While uncovering this mystery with Remi they are both faced with each other's pasts... The ending left me like WHAT? Really? I want to know more!! It was so fun reading this book, I stayed up late late reading it because I couldn't put it down, I just had to know what was going to happen next.

Remi and Alyssa have so much chemistry and attraction to each other that it was hard to even read about them because there was so much sexual tension, and I kept thinking JUST KISS ALREADY! But, let me tell you the tension is totally worth it ;) *wink wink*

DEFINITELY READ THIS BOOK! I would recommend this to anyone who loves romance and mystery. I had never read any mystery books until I read Kristine's books and now I am hooked!(less)

When PQ officer Alyssa Morgan comes on the scene, she is immediately looked down upon being both a police officer and a white woman, unable to understand the complexities of Iroquois life. Remi and Alyssa must work together to set up a police force on the reserve, and to find out who is responsible for the drugs making their way to the community teens. Mixed blood himself, Remi strives to hold onto the values and teachings of his traditional Iroquois family while balancing the warring tribal factions, his own demons and issues, and his growing attraction to Alyssa. Can he keep it all together without someone getting hurt?

It took me a little bit of reading to get into this book, but once I did I really liked it! You all know I am a sucker for well-developed characters, and Ms. Cayne really nailed it with Remi and Alyssa. The layers just kept on getting peeled back, and I felt like I really knew them. They were real, and faulted, and Remi was sexy without being over the top. (I know we want hot men, ladies, but that can’t be all they are!)

The attention to detail in this book was astounding. I cannot even imagine how many hours upon hours upon hours Kristina spent doing research for all the native customs, culture, politics, and traditions. I’m not an expert by any means, but I know enough about Canadian First Nations to know that this was the real deal, not invented through the author’s mind into what she “thought” it should be. To take so much time to get it right, is truly the sign of an author who loves her work and I have to give Kristina Cayne huge props for that.

So what’s my overall review? This book is well written, well thought out and has great characters. The attention to detail is incredible, and the suspense will keep you hooked. I did sometimes get a little bogged down by all the descriptions of native custom, etc., but it did add a lot to the characters of Remi and his cousins, and helped to understand their dilemma with the reserve. All this considered, I give this a 4 out of 5 on my romance suspense scale. I didn’t enjoy this quite as much as Deadly Obsession, but I think it’s because I identified with the characters in the first book more. Still though, an excellent read!

I read Deadly Obsession (Deadly Vices) a couple of weeks ago, and really enjoyed it. But blimey, this one was even better ! Definitely one of those can't-put-it-down books, I thought the plot was absolutely fab. Romantic suspense... Yep, the book does exactly what it says on the box. Action, suspense, and romance. Didn't know what to expect as it was a free ebook, but boy was I surprised. All the characters were believeable and the story was set with a backdrop of real issues that are occurring today.

I got a wonderful history lesson of modern day Canada and the conflicts that keep the 2 main characters apart happen in the here and now. The research carried out by the author was second to none and somehow made the story that much more believeable as it revolved around situations that most people can relate...more

So very impressed by Kristine Cayne. Only her second book, yet it's as if she's been writing a lifetime. Book 2 in the Deadly Vices series does not disappoint, and trust me, I put book one way at the top. This book is written from the perspective of three different characters, Alyssa, Remi and Chaz. What made this one especially good is that the author really casts some doubt on how Remi and Alyssa can actually have an HEA, since what is likely to keep them apart is that he is Native and she is white. The author kept me reading by offering hope as some of the barriers to their happiness diminished. Of course others seemed to get bigger too!

In addition to being a wonderful romance story, this book offers a unique look at the life on an American Indian reservation. The political issues in this book are common in many populations. A reservation just seems to be a microcosm of our world. We get a closer look at prejudice, in one of its many forms, and how that can impact relationships.

Loved this book! Great alpha male hero with a sensitive side, a kick-butt heroine plus lots of other entertaining characters. Not only did the suspense keep me turning pages, but I learned a great deal about the Iroquois people and traditions which blended seamlessly into the story. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who reads romantic suspense.

When I read this book, it felt very much the same as Nic's...took forever to get going..and get to the point. I really enjoyed the story and the characters BUT it was just too much. A lot of info on this particular Native American tribe, history of the police force, just too much history. I kept going with the story because of Remi..and Alyssa.

Okay so I knew I was highly attracted to Remi in Deadly Obsession...but OMG dang on lucky Alyssa. They are perfect for each other. Suspense, joy, passion, great bathtub scene (just sayin), swirling emotions, angst, tears...lusty hotness...oh yes. It is all here.

I loved Kristine Cayne's first book, "Deadly Obsession," but this one is even better. She's managed to blend a great suspense story full of twists and turns with a very hot romance. Highly recommend, especially if you love romantic suspense.

Just when you think it couldn't get any better...Kristine Cayne raised the bar in her second book of the Deadly Vices Series with Deadly Addiction. Gripping, intriguing, and wiggle-in-your-seat lustful, this novel has it ALL. Each page draws you deeper and deeper into Remi and Alyssa's world until you can't put it down!! An absolute MUST READ from a master story teller!!!

But the reader knows the bad guys practically from the start... which ruined the mystery part for me.
