I loved this story. Granted, I really like the Vinewars series as a whole, as it hits a sweet spot for me: Rich worlds, with a crispness of text you rarely find in Epic Fantasy. So I knew when I saw the kickstarter, I would have to buy in. I'm glad I did, this was VERY worth it! I got giddy when I saw my name in the list of acknowledgements too. That's a first for me, and it thrilled me!
When ships are lost and the potency of his spellwines is questioned, Vineart Bradhai must prove their worth. He doesn't expect to have to fight sea serpents.
For a novella, there's a whole lot of story packed in here. My only complaint is that it ended too soon.

I bought into this Kickstarter campaign because one of the buy-in levels included a short story set in another Gilman series that I like. I'd never had an interest in the Vineart series, and even after I ended up with this novella it took me a while to try it. I don't like most wines, and I was worried that I'd need to like and understand wines to enjoy this. Thankfully, that was not the case.
