I don't normally read paranormal romances, so Silent Moon, by fellow Oregon author Sarina Dorie, reminded of Beauty and the Beast. The book opens with Cassia awakening in the forest next to a bloody corpse, with no memory of how she got there. There are mysterious murders, a forbidden room in the manor, hidden doors, a ghost's diary and multiple suitors. The story starts out slowly, but there are lots of twists and turns as it nears the finale. The transformation wasn't the one I expected.
A strong heroine wanted by rival brothers, she's forced to be a maid in the house they all share. She keeps her dignity and appreciation for kindness while both brothers court her, knowing she's the one with secrets. I really liked all the characters. The dialog and setting are very well done. If you like Gothic romances you should read this one.
