Have Book, Will Travel is a fantastically fun read and it reminded me strongly of the many Enid Blyton stories I devoured as a kid. If you were a fan of hers too, I highly recommend this book, just for the nostalgia! The story is full of twists and turns due to a magical book that can take you absolutely anywhere that's written on it's pages, so you truly have no idea what is going to happen in the story next, which really kept me reading!

I felt that the story...more

I am a big fan of the Inkheart series. This book when first hearing about it kind of reminded me of that. Except that instead of pulling characters out of the books, they travel into the books, by reading a line aloud. Although I have not read any of her books I have heard this story is similar to Enid Blyton's writings.
The story is a very light-hearted one of adventure and friendship. I would say that it will appeal to both Middle Grade and early Teen readers. Although in all honestly for thos...more

Warning: Spoiler Alert!

Whether it’s off to Narnia through the magic wardrobe or falling down a rabbit-hole into Wonderland, transport to parallel worlds has always been a favorite in fantasy. In Have Book – Will Travel, the method of transportation happens to be a book – specifically, one Book of Dreams found by two friends, Darla and Max, in the storage room of an old fortress. Read a line aloud, any line, and within seconds, you’re in another dimension.

Plot-wise, the novel chronicles the adven...more

If you start doubting what the book says, we may as well go back now...

Max has been sent to his uncle's fortress to continue his studies while his mother attends to a dying friend. While exploring the castle, Max finds an old storage room. Intent on avoiding his studies, he begins searching all of the chests in the room, only to one day find a young girl, Darla, reading a book. Soon, they both pass the time reading about the grand adventures in the book and dreaming of going on their own. So, wh...more

Review: Have Book, Will Travel is a fairly episodic read, detailing the many strange places that Max and Darla travel while attempting to return home. Much of the fun of the book is seeing how the locations differ from their simple book descriptions. A land where women have obtained harmony seems quite enticing until Max, a male, wanders in! The two protagonists get into lots of scrapes and meet an array of interesting characters while bouncing from one country to another. The overall effect is...more

Have Book, Will Travel by Kfir Luzzatto and his teenage son, Yonatan, is due to be published on June 1st. I recommend if you have a reader in the 10-14 year-old range, you definitely get this book for them. I read it in a day; from almost the very start to finish it's a non-stop adventure. This is a whimsical and funny read, full of action.

Max and Darla are our main characters; she is a villager from outside the fortress that Max's uncle commands and Max is there visiting for the summer while h...more

Initially, I chose to review this book because it talked about, well, a book; and because it was a family tandem writing it and I really wanted to see the results.

The results happen to be remarkable, and the story was highly enjoyable.

Warning about the target group: while it comes as a Young Adult book, I think it’s more appropriate for Young Readers. Nothing will keep us adults from enjoying it, but I believe that kids will get the most from this story. Now that that’s out of the way, let me te...more

This is an easy read with lots of surprising twists and original ideas. I'd classify this more as a middle grade book than a young adult one, which doesn't detract at all from the adventure.
